[Yes and of course not, obviously. Reading other people's notes is a terrible way to get to know them--when you're packed into a very small ship, anyway. Sometimes necessary, never diplomatic.

Leia turns back the way she came, reaching out to touch the other person's arm.]

I think you dropped this.

[actsmagnificent]

[ When Haruka turns and sees what the other woman's holding out - a new face, huh? This is a popular place - what might be nervousness crosses her own expression for a second. Then it smooths out into an apologetic good nature. ] ...Right. Thanks.

[ She'll take that, hoping to change the subject in the process. ] New transfer?

That's right. I'm Leia Organa.

[She gives her a pleasant smile. There's always time to meet your crewmates--though she's not sure what to make of that split second of hesitance.]

I'll be doing communications. It's nice to meet you.

[ Said nervousness has apparently completely evaporated by this point. Haruka is never sure whether people are from worlds where shaking hands happens, but she offers hers all the same. ] Haruka Tenoh. Second pilot.

I'll be counting on you, Officer. [ Especially since a pilot is pretty useless while docked at a space station! She couldn't even take their fun new engineer for a ride. ]

[It's a custom Leia knows, and she shakes Haruka's hand firmly.]

We don't need to stand on ceremony--'Leia' is fine. [Unless it turns out Haruka is another person who gets a little lost without titles, but if that's the case, they can adjust from here.] What do you think of the Bishop?

[actsmagnificent]

[ Haruka shrugs. ] It's colorful.

[ Between the small horse throwing parties and all of the uh. Aesthetic modifications the captain has made to the ship.

But okay, serious answer to serious question. About which she needs more information. ] The crew or the hardware?

Either.

[Besides Jaina, she doesn't know anyone aboard especially well--and when it comes down to it, she can't say she knows Jaina as well as she'd like, either. Hearing others' opinions on crew and quarters alike is useful, if only to get to know them a little more.]

[actsmagnificent]

[ Haruka thinks. ] They're all good people. I can't say I've flown [ any ] many spaceships before, but when we're allowed control, it handles well.

[ What else. Hm. Oh, a practical function of both the ship and its crew: ] The chef uses magic.

That's good to hear. Everyone's seemed decent so far. [Present company included, naturally.]

[Her brows raise a little at that detail.] Magic? What kind of magic are we talking about?

[actsmagnificent]

[ Haruka grins: that would be telling. ] Stop by the kitchen and see.

[ No matter which chef is around, the statement will still apply, after all. Though one chef is currently going through a rough patch. But she won't air that: it's his business. ]

I guess I'll have to. [It's said with a smile. She likes Haruka so far--she's affable and easygoing, and frankly, Leia could use more people like that in her life.]

Oh--have you spoken to a girl called Jaina at all?

[actsmagnificent]

The mechanic?

[ That's a yes. And from the momentary brightening of her expression, it was a good encounter. ]

That's the one.

[The fact that the response isn't one of annoyance or concern is always a plus.]

Do you think she's been adjusting well to the Fleet? If you've noticed, one way or another, that is.

[actsmagnificent]

You sound like you know her from before. [ Haruka is thinking over the question, though. Leia has a knack for getting her to actually answer things. That's a rare gift. ]

Not...exactly.

[For a moment, she considers avoiding the explanation, then rejects that option as ridiculous. It's just too bad that Leia's pretty sure the explanation is nearly as silly.]

She's my daughter--or will be, someday.

[actsmagnificent]

[ The breath Haruka exhales almost sounds sympathetic, actually. This isn't the first temporal paradox family she's met, so she's busier trying to see what of Jaina she recognizes in Leia, now. ] You'll raise her well.

[ Speaking of. ] ....She seemed excited when I talked to her.

Thank you--I hope so. [Lightly, as befits polite conversation with a new acquaintance.

Her expression grows a little more genuinely amused at the answer. Excited.] That sounds like her. I'm glad she's been doing all right.

[actsmagnificent]

She's on an adventure. [ Is this the part where she asks Mom for permission to show the kid how shuttles work?

....Kid may already know that, from what she's seen of kid. ]

Someone ought to be.

[Leia hasn't exactly enjoyed being ripped out of time and place to idle along in the Fleet, but there's something to be said about the fact that Jaina doesn't have quite the same pressing issues to return to. She, Luke, and Han must do something right with the New Republic.]

If she's happy, that's what matters.

[actsmagnificent]

Right.

[ From the slightly faraway look on Haruka's face when she agrees, she has her own unfinished business back home, too. ]

[She notices the way Haruka's expression shifts, but she's not sure now is the time to pry into its meaning.]

I've taken up enough of your time. It was a pleasure meeting you, Haruka--I'm glad the Bishop is in the hands of a capable pilot.

[Sure, she hasn't seen Haruka fly it yet, but sometimes, you get a sense about a person.]

[actsmagnificent]

[ Leia's remark earns more of a chuckle than usual. Hands joke. It'll make sense once the other pilot shows himself. ] Look after the kid.

[ Like she has to tell a mom that, but. She likes Jaina. ]

That's the plan. [Jaina's fourteen years old, so something's gone right in the past. Hopefully it will in the future.]
