[Well, it's been two days.  Pretty sure she can rule out roofies by this point, and other potential illnesses given nothing changes.  Pulse is still fine, breathing's regular, all that jazz.  That leaves one likely possibility she can think of, given they've already proven Fleet passengers can be turned on and off at will.

Which irritates her.  But who knows.  Maybe the space orgy was just too much for their delicate viewers.  HAH.]

Hey, so question.  I know the augments are known to malfunction sometimes.  What kind of malfunctions are we talking about?  Have they ever... dropped anyone into a coma without warning?

...is there any way of countering it, if so?

[She bets this question has probably been asked a million times, but she can't find anything recent.  Save her some reading material, guys.]

[It was always so interesting to her, the kinds of people Wanda has met while a member of the Fleet.]

So you do pirate things then? Back home? You sail the oceans and hunt for buried treasure?

[She does not sound condescending, rather she means to come off as genuinely interested in what Nami's life must be like back home.]

Ahhh, I wish~! Seems we do everything but hunt for buried treasure. But we've certainly run away with a lot anyway!

...we might do more piratical things if our captain would stop getting himself into trouble with every island we land on.

So not very successful pirates then?

[namisan]

[There's a sound somewhere between a snort and surprised laughter. Guaranteed if she'd been drinking she'd have probably spat it across the room.]

Oh no. No, we're very successful pirates, if the bounties on our heads are anything to go by.

How could you have bounties on your head if-

[Wanda stops herself, as Nami's words about her "captain" constantly getting her into trouble.]

When you said your captain was troublesome, you meant...

[She lets her voice trail off, opening the door for Nami to answer.]

He makes friends easily. And then he'll defend those friends to the death. Even if that friend's enemies are, say, the World Government, or a warlord, or... you get the idea.

We do get a bunch of treasure on the side a lot of the time. I just think digging for it in a nice, calm location would be better for my heart some days.

[Which...hasn't stopped her from stepping up to the plate every single time. Luffy's a moron, but he's a lovable one, and he's always right besides.]

Sounds far more exciting your captain's way, but I can also see why you might way a break from that kind of pattern every once and a while.

Once in a while is all I'm asking. I don't think Luffy believes in doing anything the safe and easy way.

I guess I'll just have to make do. [Long-suffering navigator, that's what she is. Loyal, though. She's just allowed to complain, right?]

Luffy? That is your captains name, is it?

[Wanda feels like she's seen or heard that name before, somewhere in passing. Not exactly an uncommon feeling in a place like this, with so many people coming and going from so many different times and places.]

Yeah.

...he was here for a few weeks. Didn't stay long. [They might have met. Luffy tends to bounce around and make friends at the drop of a hat.]

Are there many in your crew? Back home?

[namisan]

Nine! [She grins widely.] And two honorary. We're pretty small as pirate crews go, but it doesn't seem to matter.

[notmutantbutmiracle]

Nine? That does sound small. Is that truly enough to sail a full boat?

[namisan]

It depends on the size of the ship, really. Our first ship was a caravel, tiny in comparison to many others. I could sail that solo on a calm sea. Our crew for that was only four to begin with.

Our second ship is a brigantine sloop, which is about three times bigger... but still not huge. It would normally take around twenty as a full crew, but it's got an amazing shipwright who made a lot of adjustments to make it sail more smoothly. And it means we have room for more crew if it ever becomes an option.

[On talking about sailing and ships and navigation, Nami can probably go on forever.]

Well, you may not look like a pirate, but you certainly sound like someone who lives their life on the sea.

So there are nine of you, and you sail the ship? You steer it?

[She gestures with her hands like she's manning the helm of a ship.]

[namisan]

Sailing is a team effort, but mostly it occurs under my instructions. I set our course, make sure we hold steady and keep an eye on the sea and the weather. and steer us free of any danger I might see.

It's a lot of work, but I'm a great navigator. [Also incredibly modest.]

That does sound like a lot of work.

[Wanda thinks on this for a moment.]

If you are the one deciding where the ship goes, what then does your captain do?

[namisan]

Picks fights and eats all the food.

[...I swear she'll give you a serious answer in a second.]

[At first, there's no reaction as Wanda is a bit caught of guard by Nami's deadpan delivery coupled with her blunt answer. However, she soon dissolves into a fit of giggles, even a few soft snorts manage to squeak out.]

[namisan]

[Nami grins at the reaction. Well, she's glad she made you laugh, anyway.]

Seriously, though. He's the captain. He's got final say over where we go! It's my job to get us there. And he might not be very good at much on ship other than getting underfoot, but it's his crew. None of us'd be there if he hadn't pestered us all into joining.

[There's a fondness that creeps in that might suggest it isn't quite as simple as that, but. She might make fun of him, but Luffy's still the only pirate captain she'd follow.]

[Wanda smiles warmly as she listens to Nami talking. To be a part of a team like that, it must be nice. She had only really sampled just a little bit of that feeling, helping the Avengers fight Ultron. Now that she's been in the fleet, there has been something akin to that feeling, but not seemingly quite on par with what Nami is describing.]

You seem very proud of him. Your captain and your crew. Even if he did "pester" you all into joining.

[namisan]

Mm. It definitely has its moments. [99% of her life is made up of moments, in that case.] Most pirates are absolute trash, but my crew are good people, even if they deny it. I wouldn't be with them, otherwise.

[notmutantbutmiracle]

They would deny being good people?

[Wanda thinks on this a moment. A small, knowing smile appears on her face.]

Need to protect their pirate reputation I suppose?

[namisan]

[Grin.] They don't much care about reputation. But if you ask my captain, it's because "heroes have to share their meat". Which is his much simpler way of not wanting anyone to have any expectations of him. He does what he wants.

I am not sure I understand the metaphor.

[A soft giggle.]

But it seems that where you are from, being a pirate does not necessarily mean one is a villain.
