[When the feed begins, Erik is already awake. Awake, but not yet moving from the bed. He's holding himself in the kind of intense stillness that preludes a burst of activity. And it comes shortly after, as he rolls swiftly to his feet and surveys the deck. This isn't the mansion, that much is clear. Nor is it part of any realm he's been in that he can tell. His brow furrows as he glares daggers into a featureless wall. While there is nothing of particular interest about it - it's just a wall - he seems to be observing something he finds off-putting about it.

He shakes his head abruptly, a quick jerk of the chin.] No. [With nothing further to say than that, he turns and stalks out of frame, with only a cursory glance at the communicator left behind.

Ten minutes pass, the feed holding on a truly exciting shot of that empty bed and floor.

But soon enough he re-enters the frame, wearing an expression somewhere between frustrated and resigned. This time, he does notice the communicator. After a considering pause, he walks over, reaching out ... and turns it with a finger, pointing the camera at the wall. His voice rings out clearly a moment later.]

If someone is watching, I'd appreciate an explanation. I haven't got much patience for these kinds of games anymore.

[Something about the way he phrases it... it reminds her of Nightingale. Erik, meet a strange-looking humanoid teenage-girl with bright orange skin, blue-and-white-striped horns, and white patterns on her face that are very much not tattoos.]

... Have you been somewhere like this before?

[Well now. She's intriguing. But he takes only a moment to skate his gaze over her features before returning to the matter at hand.]

Not like this in particular. But as for places I haven't intended to be...

[Rather more of them than he'd like, at this point.]

If it helps, it's not my first time being kidnapped either?

I mean, on the grand scale of things, it could be worse!

[Way to look on the bright side, Ahsoka.]

I'm not sure it's much of a comfort, being a serial abductee.

[He, for one, is getting very tired of it.]

[Ahsoka shrugs, unbothered.]

What's your name?

[The million dollar question. It takes him only half a second to decide which name to fall back on. The mindset is hard to break, and he'd rather not bandy around his real name just yet.]

Nice to meet you, Blade. I'm Ahsoka-- Ahsoka Tano.

Is this your first time in space?

It's a pleasure. [Circumstances aside. At the least, he has enough wits about him this time not to threaten everyone of being behind this whole mess.]

I suppose it is. I'd assumed that viewing window was fake.

[Or part of some realm.]

Nope! One hundred percent real. Surprise. Welcome to space!

[He delivers that in the flattest possible way. Nothing against Ahsoka, but he's already having a bad day. As he talks, he begins walking through the Hospitality Deck, keeping his communicator handy.]

Is there a particular reason why I seem to be alone here, and haven't seen anyone else in person?

You're on the mothership. Everyone wakes up there. After a few days they assign you to a crew.

A... crew.

[Well, that sounds like a team equivalent. Only it's odd not to deliver them straight to it.]

And we're expected to work with this crew, I take it.

No one's forcing you to, if that's what you're asking.

But you'll probably be pretty unpopular with everyone else on board.

[Popularity was never his strong suit. Though he's gained a couple of levels in it, through circumstance.]

Well. We don't want that, do we.

[Ahsoka just shrugs, though there's a faintly amused smile on her face.]

It's up to personal preference. Put it this way-- the ships where nobody gets along usually generate more credits. But personally I'm happier with my quiet ship where we all work in tandem. Then again, I'm probably biased. I don't need much to get by. As long as I have food and shelter, I'm happy.

I know not everyone feels that way, though.

[He sighs, pausing in his movements as he reaches the viewing windows.]

What exactly do you do on these ships? Or is the crew only meant to keep them running.

Keep them running, sure. That and try to go about your life as normally as possible, I guess. I've been teaching meditation and self defense to people who want to learn in my spare time. It helps keep me on my game, too.

[Erik nods, listening. If there were hills he could run for, he would be doing so right now. Letting a situation become routine and mundane in spite of the fantastical nature of it all was obviously going to be a risk. He shoves that feeling down for later.]

What kind of self defense?

For the beginners I've just been doing basic stuff to get out of specific situations. How to get out of a choke-hold, how to disarm someone, how to make someone let go of you... that kind of thing.

For people who want to learn more than that, I've been running hand-to-hand drills twice a week.

All valuable things to learn, for a beginner.

I figure that's what most people want out of a self-defense class, isn't it?

And I'm small, so when people see me, they know that it's doable even if you're tiny.

Have many people taken you up on it?

Only a handful. But better than none.
