First Mission - Video/Action for the Marsiva

[Broadcast]

[When the feed clicks on, it's a close up of Laura sleeping on one of the cots on the Marvisa, her fingers coiled around a silver locket hanging from her neck, and she looks...almost peaceful?]

[But it's a very short moment, as after a few seconds, her eyes spring open, and for a few more she doesn't move, perfectly still, not even breathing, just listening to her surroundings. When she sits up finally, it's a single smooth motion that sends the communicator spinning off the bed and clattering to the floor, filming upward as the teenager stands, her hands balled into fists. She was dressed in a black leather jacket, a purple tanktop and dark blue jeans, and would have looked like a pretty normal teen if not for the intense expression on her face. Slowly she scanned the room, head tilted to the side as she listened to the sounds of the ship, and...sniffing? Was she smelling the ship?]

[Not getting whatever information she was hoping for, she turns and kicks the phone by accident, glancing over as it skittered away and then crouching down to scoop it off the floor. She frowned as her eyes search the screen, and after a few seconds, she finds the right button and the feed cuts out.]

[When it kicks back on, perhaps fifteen minutes later, it's pointed at one of the viewports on the ship, out at the stars, and Laura can be seen standing behind it on the reflection of the glass. She looks...uncertain now, hesitant, clearly her exploration did not turn up what she wanted it to. Finally she addresses the camera without turning it towards herself.]

Where am I?

[Action]

[Laura could be found moving quietly around the hospitality ship, mostly keeping to herself, sometimes sitting where she could look out the windows or where she could watch other people without being particularly intrusive, or just watch the feeds on her communicator. She was studying the ship, studying the people, studying the situation, trying to figure out what she could learn before she made any decisions about what to do next.]

[She was a bit jumpy, honestly, though not to the point of being dangerous yet. But if there was one thing X-23 hated, it was being held prisoner, and this ship was certainly a prison. In moments where she thinks she is alone, one of the long, metal claws slides out from between her the knuckles on her right hand and traces patterns on her forearm, X's and O's mostly, just deep enough to cut, not deep enough to last more than a few seconds with her heeling factor. It's not a good thing, but it helps her focus, helps her deal...]

[That was it. Not quite the same but close...hmm. To be fair, she had not seen Kitty in some time.]

Oh. [She took another moment to process this.]

You are different then I remember.

I'm from a different reality, so unless you remember MarinaNova, we've never technically met. There are other X-Men here too though.

[girlverine]

I have never heard of MarinaNova.

[Other realities. What did it say about their lives that that sort of thing was normal?]

Didn't really think you would have. [Which is too bad really, but she's not going to stew over it.]

Okay, so the rundown, we were all captured by the Atroma. They don't show themselves and rarely communicate. We're supposedly all part of a reality television show where we get paid for better ratings but the accounts for that are frozen right now anyway. You're on the arrival ship and in a few days or so you'll be shuffled out to one of the other ships in the fleet where you'll have more freedom, but no ability to actually leave. There's an implant in your neck that can't be removed [though she still wants to try] called an augment that will give you certain skills and knowledge in regard to the ship. Mine is for a pilot.

And hi. Missed that part.

[girlverine]

[She processes through most of that, but the important thing is at the end, and she visibly tenses.]

An implant?

[Her hand comes up, feeling at her neck at the back of her head, searching for some evidence of it. When she can't find it, her eyes close, and one of her claws pops out of her hand, raising back towards her head.]

[Apparently she is going to just cut around until she finds it?]

[She really should have omitted that part as much as she is legitimately curious to see what happens she's not okay with Laura as a test subject.]

Hey!

Stop. Wait. No stabby!

[girlverine]

[She hesitates, but doesn't put the claw away, her gaze back on the camera.]

I will survive it.

[passingthrough]

Okay, but cutting is something anyone can do, right? Knives are thing. So, I'm thinking someone has done this and failed already. So, let's skip the part with the bleeding and the pain until we have a better plan.

[girlverine]

[Another hesitation before she lowers her hand, her claw disappearing back into her knuckles.]

What is the implant for?

[passingthrough]

As far as I know it's for giving us information. I don't trust them either. I've been told when you try to remove it, you're put in more pain than whatever your personal threshold for pain is. So, we should find out what's been tried already, so we can at least make new mistakes. [Watching her, not sure if she's going to go for the claw again, but since she can't get to the Marsiva there's not much she can do about it if she does.]

[girlverine]

[She wanted to, but she could see the logic in determining what had been done before. Although it was still a very difficult impulse to resist.]

Can they control us with them?

[passingthrough]

No one has said that. [But she assumes they could if they wanted to. A speculation she might be more willing to share if Laura wasn't so claw-happy over there.] I've been here a month now. I've been trying to learn what I can, but there's still a lot I don't know.

[girlverine]

[Another few moments of silence. She would not be controlled, not again. Not by anyone, and the temporary anger this thought brings to her is probably evident on her face. But it passes.]

How long until I am free of this ship?

[passingthrough]

It seems like the shuffles happen once a week. So, four or five days probably. After that, we can meet up on the station if we're still here or I can pilot The Windrose over to wherever you land. [Assuming she wants to meet in person that is.]

[girlverine]

Then what?

[Laura still, at heart, needed goals, direction, a mission in order to really function. Even when her mission had simply been to find her own mission, that had still been something.]

Then we can get to know each other and work on escape plans. [You know, in case the first one was too warm and fuzzy for you.]

[girlverine]

[Laura has no idea how to do the 'getting to know each other' part. Oops.]

Escaping is important, I have things I need to do.

[passingthrough]

[Kitty will bring study aids for her to brush up on it.]

Most people do. [Not Kitty so much.]

[girlverine]

[Someday she'll get to be a real girl.]

How long have people been held prisoner here?

[passingthrough]

[Just avoid whales in the meantime. This should be a good place for it.]

I was told it started a few months over a year. [Allen wasn't precise about it.] But I've only met one person who has been here the whole time.

[girlverine]

People have escaped?

[passingthrough]

Not to my knowledge. People have disappeared. Sent home as mysteriously as they arrived I guess. [She doesn't know if it's as clean and simple as that, but part of her suspicion is because of the place she was between home and here. No one ever really left...except her it seems.]

[girlverine]

...Why would they take us, then return us?

[She could think of a few reasons off the top of her head but they were all pretty awful.]

Buyer's remorse? I don't know, Laura. Probably nothing good.

[girlverine]

[She hesitates as she thinks this over.]

Perhaps they were no longer whatever our captors wanted.
