WHO Chris Halliwell / YOU
BROADCAST Accidental video on the SS Huntress / closed thread to Cole.
ACTION Kitchen of the SS Huntress / on to the SS Wonderduck
WHEN January 19th. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO COLE♪.
huntress / open broadcast.
[ Whatever's going on, Chris is pretty intent on it. He's mucking about in the kitchen working with the meager supplies and there is definitely the smell of chocolate protein stuffs everywhere. He started on it the night before but now that he's messing with it in earnest it smells... fantastic, actually. There's semi-solid chocolate, gel chocolate, gel peanut butter, all getting mixed up real well and chilled inside the mini-fridge.
Is he making brownies?! ]
call to Cole Turner.
So... I know, I know. Don't remind me. But can I shimmer over today? I want to see you. In person.
[ Beat. Maybe he needs to up the ante. ]
I figured out how to make brownies.
wonderduck.
[ No matter how Chris gets there, he's on the Wonderduck again with some of his makeshift brownies and something else kind of clunky-looking in a bag. Feel free to assault him for being new or unknown or carrying chocolatey perfection. He's not going to be handing it out on his own, you know! ]

Um... I guess if you want to see what that test I put in the fridge is looking like right now. Not sure if I need to put more of the softer stuff in or less to make it the right feel.
no subject
[Asking her to eat the thing? No problem, Chris. Shirley fetches a spoon and takes the batch out of the fridge, trying a spoonful and chewing thoughtfully.]
I think it would be nice if it were a little stiffer, but it's still very good.
no subject
Yeah, it's a little too gooey, isn't it? Hm.
[ He goes over to the protein dispenser and mucks around with it until he's got enough, then moves to the tiny counter and starts to chop it and dice it and basically make it something mixable. ]
What about the peanut butter? Too much?

[ He has to keep his eyes on the protein until it's properly chopped up into tiny little pieces before he glances back to Shirley. ]
Right. Uh. My dad is here. I mean... I saw you saw him on the network and all, but he's—on a ship now. Not that you asked. [ He nods to himself and goes back to what he's working on. Bit nervous, Chris? ] Never mind.

[She's heard how much Chris's father cares about him from Cole himself, so it's good to see the feelings are mutual. Also pretty awkward, but then she hangs around Will and Harriet so that's hardly new.]

[ He pauses, shakes his head. ]
Forget about it. I can make more when I get back, so we'll actually have something edible here more often.
no subject
[A special occasion means it's even more important! She's not about to get in the way of something like that.]
no subject
[ Chris is just a worrier, just learn to accept it, Shirley. ]
So, um... You're not freaked out by the...? [ He screws up his face. The demon-y thing? ]
no subject
[Not a nice thing to say about his dad, but it feels wrong to lie.]
But he was very nice, and he's your father.
no subject
And that's all it took to give him a chance?
no subject
[Is it really that strange? Okay, maybe that's a bit much coming from her, but...]
no subject
[ In his mind, there isn't even a way to compare the two situations. ]
Your friends aren't big, scary demons.
no subject
Some people would consider me to be a big, scary demon, you know. I've learned that those things don't matter as much as people think.
no subject
Well... no. It doesn't matter, but people are plenty happy to make their assumptions anyway. I think I missed something, though. You?
no subject
If I thought that your father being a demon meant we couldn't get along, then I would have nothing to believe in. And I've learned that even if people make assumptions about you, then that doesn't have to change who you are. And you can still try to show them truth.
[She's preaching because she loves you, Chris. Also because Shirley likes being explicit about her life lessons and then sticking to them like glue.]
no subject
Yeah, um... no, that's not what I was saying. Just.... you surprised me. Um. Back home, it's a lot more obvious when you're a demon and... people tend to not get over that very quickly at all. Whether you're good and trying to help them or not.
no subject
Oh. Well...I still meant what I said. If he's your father, then I trust him.
no subject
Right. [ He licks his lips, a bit thrown off by the whole thing. ] Thank you. It's... That means a lot.
no subject
[She smiles. So it helped, after all.]
You should get back to making those brownies. I'm sure your father will love them.
no subject
[ He raises his brows at her. ]
But, uh... you can stick around if you want.

[Makes sense. And hey, sounds good to her.]
That's good. Oh, and tell him I wish him a good birthday, of course. How old is he today?
