[ The video feed clicks on as Ororo wakes, with the sound of her cape's wrist bangles clattering against whatever assorted metal fixtures there are on the bed as she gets to her feet. It's quiet aside from the background noise of the Hospitality Deck, with Ororo silently assessing the situation she'd found herself in. Was it a kidnapping? She could see the void of stars and space through the large window - had she been pulled into another intergalactic issue? Ororo frowned, the sparks of lightning crawling along her skin making the video feed flicker with static. ]

[ Assuming that there were other X-Men with her here somewhere (nine times out of ten they were pulled into these things together), she decided to go looking for them and regroup... or at least find someone on the Deck to question. She takes the communicator with her just because it looked useful, but neglects to switch it off or anything - so between brief moments of static from her lightning, it happens to pick up her movement and voice as she mutters to herself: ]

By the Goddess, I do not have time for this. I have a school to run!

I suppose they can't tell us all their secrets. [The longest of long sighs. Then, mostly to herself:] Mojo at least was more forthcoming about his motives and methods when it came to his brand of entertainment.

[ mojo? mojo. kate is (relatively) new to this business. although she's been behind the bow for a few years now, a lot of the older lore slips her memory unless it was something big and based in new york. but mojo... ]

Hey. That's the guy that nabbed the Unity Division that one time, right? [ gently outing herself as a participant in storm's world. ]

[Ororo tilts her head in thought.] The Unity Division? I think Rogue would have informed me if they'd run into him recently.

[She's from behind the times, but that's beside the point because she's taking a closer look at Kate. She's much too young to be part of the usual teams, but now that she's paying attention, she does look familiar.]

[...] We've met before, haven't we?

Kate Bishop. [ -- ] I've seen you around the tower.

[Technically Ororo was only an official Official Avenger for a hot minute... but she doesn't question Kate, because the name does still register with her. With what little she remembers of the fiasco with Wanda and Doom and her twin sons - she certainly hopes Kate remembers her more from the seeing her around tower rather than that.]

- You were with the younger Avengers. [She smiles briefly.] ... My apologies, I hadn't recognized you. It's been a while for me.

[ -- if kate opts not to mention the debacle with magneto and wanda, then it's because she still sees that particular mission as a black spot on her record. both the vision and stature died come the denouement, and kang was set well on his way to becoming a conqueror. it was the mission that made her quit superheroing altogether. at least...until clint came a-calling. ]

I'm the one with the bow. [ for now, she's happy to be pleasant. ]

Yes, of course. You modeled yourself after Clint Barton, if I remember correctly? [Ororo would remember at least that, if she'd gone over any files previously.]

It's good to see you well, Kate. [Can she call her Kate? She hopes so.]

[ be cool, katers. ordinarily, she might feel inclined to mouth off after being described as having 'modeled herself' after the other hawkeye. but -- to a degree -- it's true. and the explain the nuance of the story (captain america gave me the name, the bow, and the mandate) might sound ever so slightly self-important.

and, deep down, she understands storm doesn't mean anything by the words. most importantly, it doesn't sound like she'd been throwing around 'clint barton' as an insult -- unlike how some of the other big-name heroes do. she's looking at you, spider-woman. ]

And you too, uhm, [ she stumbles. storm is storm. just as with wolverine, she has a hard time calling her anything but her codename. but maybe she should ask... ] Can I call you Storm? Should I call you Storm?

Storm is fine. [Ororo chuckles a little.] I think many prefer it over my name as Ororo is apparently a bit difficult to pronounce.

But you may call me whatever you like. [... Just not your majesty or anything, that's a quick way to sour her mood.]

The pronunciation's no problem. Honestly. [ derek bishop paid for his daughter's very good education. although this is never any guarantee of acumen, kate took well to her academics. when she sees an unfamiliar words, she approaches it with relish. hearing it once is enough to remember it well.

but: ] It's just -- you're Storm. You know? I knew that name first. [ it's what would be on the television broadcasts and the superhero-spotting blogs. ] Before I...got involved.

I imagine that's the case. [Ororo gives her an amused little smile. She hasn't had this sort of conversation, it's a bit funny to her.]

But that Storm was one you knew from the news. Right now I am giving you a chance to know me differently. [And here her smile turns a bit wry.] I can promise you that whatever you've heard the television say about me has been colored by... considerable bias. [To say the least. Mutant, woman, black. Former royalty. Depending on what network's covering her, sometimes even an outlaw since the X-Men aren't always celebrated as heroes. She's been a lot of things.]

It's -- alright. I assure you I've got nothing but the utmost respect for what you guys do over at the mansion.

[ there are shades of grey all over their shared industry. heroes go up against heroes nearly as often as they clash with villains. sometimes, it's a matter of differing perspectives. sometimes, it's something else entirely. but kate knows better than to trust broadcasts alone.

plus, she always has clint nearby to remind her that there isn't always a right side and a wrong side. ]

We're in this together, yeah?

[That's just the kind of cheesy thing Ororo would say sincerely. So her smile turns warm and kind of fond. Maybe she'd been a bit worried, but Kate's reassurance has helped a lot.]

... Of course. But I would have to insist that you call me Ororo. [She figures she's earned that privilege.]

Ororo. Great. It's a pleasure, Ororo.

[ kate can't help but smile. how weird is this? to go so long in the same vague professional circles as someone else, only to make a sincere connection in a whole different dimension.
