A bit of free and sage advice to you, Fleet- if you have the cleaning bots on your ship, don't try to teach them how to bartend.

It's probably not going to end well.

At least Leopardon now has another spider web crack to match the first one. He's practically symmetrical now.

[And that's why Castle has been quiet for the past few weeks- the bots destroyed a bunch of booze at one of the waystation's hotels and he's been working to pay the debt off.]

Ooh, I wanna hear this story.

Well, I have the cleaning bots because of my augment, so. I've been taking them along with me on jobs to earn some money, since this is the slowest police force in the universe and they haven't unfrozen the Windrose's funds yet. I ended up in a hotel bar, and Leopardon thought it would be cute to imitate the bartender and spin a few bottles around.

Somehow I got the idea into my head to bring all of the bots along, have them put on a show, you know? Long story short, they broke a ton of booze bottles.

How many beers did you have before you made this excellent decision?

None, surprisingly. I'm good at making up zany schemes while sober.

I don't really think good is a word that can ever describe that skill.

Really? My ability to think outside the box comes in handy, you know.

Thinking outside of the box has a totally different connotation than making up zany schemes does.

The first often leads to the second. Well, some of my schemes aren't very zany, mind.

I prefer a zany scheme-less life.

They're not up everyone's alley, to be sure.

[ "What kind of idiot didn't know that already?" is what they want to say, but. playing nice, being a Totally Normal Kid, etc etc. ]

You tried to teach a cleaning robot to run a bar?

To be fair, they are pretty intelligent cleaning bots. But not quite dextrous enough for bartending.

I don't know, even astromechs can handle some fetch tasks.

Do you need a hand with some maintenance? Symmetrical or not... [She makes a bit of a face.] Cracks can spread if the droid's chassis is put under the wrong kind of stress. Better to take care of that sooner than later.

True- but next time, I'll teach them one at a time, perhaps. Get 4 or 5 of them together and they start bumping into each other... it's not fun.

Oh, I'd appreciate that. Normally I'd ask the Vision for help with that kind of thing, but he's meditating or... something, and I haven't been able to shake him out of it. Who knows when he's going to come out of it?

Glad you mentioned that. Maybe we can run a diagnostic on their proximity sensors while they're opened up. I'll come around whenever works for you, unless you want to cart them over to Bishop.

[She's. Pretty enthused about that idea. She's probably going to continue trying to create work for herself.]

Is he okay? I don't know if he's looking for a -- [well. not to make a play on words, but] -- a vision, or if he's in a healing trance.

Sounds good to me! I don't know much about fixing robots myself, so any help I can get would be great. I'm on the Windrose, so head on over whenever you want.

He does that sometimes- just goes off in his own world. He's a sentient robot himself, so I don't worry too much. Maybe it is healing- maybe he had to reboot himself after an upgrade.

Great! I'll see what I can get together for him. Probably can't give him a nice luxury treatment, but he can probably go a while without an oil bath.

[She chews her lip a moment, thinking.]

Hope your friend didn't download a virus. Have you seen a lot of droids around the fleet? I was starting to think there weren't many at all, but you've got a bunch on your hands.

Sounds good- and I'll be sure to pay you back somehow. You know, if our funds are ever unfrozen.

[Castle rubbed his chin.]

Well, I know the cleaning droids came with my augment and Misty's... but yeah, we do seem to have an unusually-high concentration of them. Outside of our ship, I don't know of very many, though.

We could try to teach them how to paint! There isn't much to break that way. But it's cool that you're expanding their horizons, Castle. You're so nice.

Hey, there's an idea. We could even sell their paintings for money- pass it off as some new trend in art.

I try to be kind to them. They're not as intelligent as the Vision is, but they do so much work for us.

It'll be a good way for them to express their feelings about cleaning! It could be a really cool form of art, maybe.

You should be kind to everyone whether they're smart or not. Like Officer Snuggles! He's very smart for a fox, but he still needs us to look out for him.

Exactly. They get to make the mess for once instead of cleaning it up.

I agree. It takes nothing to say something kind, after all.

Oh, so does that mean you'll clean up after them if there's a mess? [Grin.] Since I think if I scrub stuff too much, Dr. Crusher will yell at me.

Oh, I'll gladly do some scrubbing. Hard work is a virtue, after all. ... that is, unless they get to each others' messes before I do.

Well, thanks for saying so. I do try to work my hardest, especially because I know Mother or Kate will get on me if I'm not at the top of my game.

Aw, it's always great to have other people watching your six and making sure you don't slack off. And you've got two people, so twice as lucky!

Yeah- Kate especially would never let me sit down on the job. She tends to bring out the best in me.

That's the best kind of partner to have! When they make you better than you normally are.

Darn right. It's one of the reasons I'm going to marry her- you know, if I ever get out of here.
