I guess I wouldn't mind having a bigger blanket. It gets pretty cold on my ship. I'm stationed on the Heron, where I'm a pilot, too.

come bring me your blanket!!
(i would shuttle over to you but i have a pet fox and he is a monster and he doesnt really like shuttle rides
but if i leave him here unattended he will probably destroy my friends bedroom again)

[Oh crap. Shinji was only being half-serious about that. Getting on a shuttle to visit a ship he's never been to before sounds really daunting...]

I won't be wasting your time?

[But he forces himself to get out of bed, blanket in tow.]

i am literally lying on the floor of my bunk staring at the ceiling and texting people
i am not sure it is possible to waste my time right now

Fair enough. I'm getting on the shuttle now.

[Shinji has visited the Starlight already, but he's never gone to someone else's ship. The ride over to the Wonderduck is tense and nausea-inducing. By the time he arrives, he's a little too pale and sadly fretting with his hair, wishing he had brushed it before he left. He isn't the most put together person, really.

Oh crap. He forgot to ask where Jade's bunk is. For that matter, he forgot to introduce himself or describe how he looks or anything. This wouldn't be a big deal for most people, but Shinji feels like he's in hostile territory. Double crap. At least he didn't forget to bring his blanket along.]

Okay, I'm here, but I don't know where to find you?

[ jade is just sort of hanging out in the rec room, sitting in a tall chair with her legs crossed in it with her. what looks suspiciously like a high-walled playpen has been set up in it, and one of the white foxes from the previous planet is sleeping in it next to a stuffed rabbit that has been chewed to absolute hell.

she perks immediately when she hears the communicator, however, and answers right away: ]

rec room!

[ and then she'll list some simple instructions from the docking bay. ]

[Simple instructions are Shinji's favorite kind. He's pretty nervous about walking around someone else's ship, but he doesn't come across any trouble. A minute later, he's standing at the entrance of the rec room, peering inside, a folded blanket in his arms. He's on the younger, shorter side, in one of those charcoal jumpsuits. His general demeanor is that of an unsettled, wind-rippled lake.]

Jade... -san?

[He bullies himself into smiling at Jade. She's the only person here, so...]

I'm Shinji. Sorry, I think I forgot to say that. I just spoke to you about the... the blanket. Hello.

[ i've met you is what she wants to say, but then absolutely doesn't. she hops to her feet when he steps inside the rec room, tossing the communicator into the seat behind her - the black top and skirt she's wearing doesn't really afford her pockets. ]

Hi! Um - just 'Jade' is okay. How big were you wanting the blanket?

[ she's sort of holding one arm out, beckoning for it. ]

[Shinji wouldn't be that surprised if Jade admitted to knowing him. Or, "him." Someone else already informed him of a parallel universe where he did battle with the Darkness or whatever the hell. Naturally, even thinking about that makes him feel sick to his stomach, but he can deal with it. He's mostly upset that he can't be a fraction as competent as other versions of himself.

For now, he's crossing the rec room to hold out the blanket to Jade.]

Jade, then. I was thinking... maybe the twice the size? Unless that's too much. I mean, I don't want to... [How does magic work?] Exhaust your magical reserves. [He has no idea what he's talking about. Sorry.]

[ it's alright - jade really has no idea what the limits of her own powers are here, either. it's not something she's ever really been interested in testing, even if just because it could be dangerous to mess around with when humans are involved.

blankets, though? blankets are safe. ]

Sure, it's no problem.

[ fluffy white dog ears perked, she lifts a hand, palm forward and fingers splayed. the blanket glows an odd, almost radioactive green, before the material begins to expand in shinji's hands. within a few seconds, it is literally just twice the size: there's no new material fabric, it's simply been scaled up. ]

Like that?

[Shinji has seen some pretty crazy shit as an Eva pilot. Still, he's just about bowled over at the sight of a blanket expanding in his own hands, overwhelming them. The laws of physics don't seem to factor in at all. His jaw drops open, then drops even more, before he remembers himself and stops gawking like a weirdo.]

That's...

[Here: a breathy little laugh, incredulous and self-conscious. To be a magic user is to be special, which is something he's scared and also envious of. Confirming reality, then, he holds the blanket up closer to his face. Looks the same as ever. Just bigger.]

That's a miracle, [he says, with all the sincerity he has.] I don't know how to repay you. I can't do anything amazing like this.
