Yeah, the photographer. She's...[My best friend. My girlfriend.] from back home. Known her forever. And yeah bed space is a thing for me, since she's all elbows and keeps getting me in the stomach when I'm sleeping.

[Chloe said this in a way where she didn't actually seem to mind it? That it was sort of cute? Oh god kill her.]

No boyfriend, huh? Or girlfriend or...I don't know, I guess alien friend would be a thing here.

But um, no. Of either. Though it would usually be a boyfriend. If I had one. Which I don't.

I mean, I'm crashing in her room half the time, not a hard picture to draw.

[ she may have said this once or twice before. it's kind of rehearsed. ]

Uh huh. [Chloe made a point of looking behind her, as if searching for Kara's teleprompter, then back to her with a smirk.]

Figure if you say it enough it'll suddenly be true?

[ a moment, because she knows she's not being convincing ]

Trust me though, if it's not, don't dick around pretending it is and don't wait. You never know when life is gonna shoot you in the face.

[Her smile turned a little sad, and she shrugged.]

Guess I am. I had plans, life said fuck you no, some awful shit happened, and now I'm here.

[And she was slipping past Kara to get out of the room.]

...I think she does. [Chloe shrugs as she steps back into her office.] I mean, I'm hella glad she's here and...

[Chloe was never sure. She wanted to trust people, she did trust Max, but at the same time, there was always that voice in the back of her head. Everybody lies, no exceptions.]

Yeah, we're cool. I mean, I'm crashing over there a lot, she wouldn't be all cuddly and shit if she wasn't happy to see me, right?

[She smirked.]

[ she's a little sarcastic. this relationship seems.... complicated. and she really doesn't know either girl so she really shouldn't get involved or push it... ]

[Chloe's shoulder's slumped a little at that and she just sighed.]

We're fine. Really. Max said we are and...look. I'm just shitty at all of this. Trusting people, all of it. I've gotten burned way too many fucking times to just accept something.

[A beat, and she starts gathering up things to put in another box.]

Everybody lies. No exceptions.

[ Kara's look is sympathetic and kind ]

I guess I'm kind of the opposite. I trust too easily, and I like to think that people are good at heart, but if you've got someone you're spending half of your nights with, I wouldn't say you're too shitty at any of this. Maybe you don't have to accept it as some big ceremonial Thing, but it's pretty cool that what you've got seems to be going well. And I'm glad you showed up for her.

[Chloe doesn't seem to know what to say to that, and finally she just smiles a bit.] Yeah...sorry. I just get...it doesn't matter. You're right, it's cool, I should stop worrying about it.

As for that trusting easily thing. [A little smirk.] You'll get over it.

You say that, but I'm older than you are and I've been given plenty of opportunities already.

But I'm not telling you not to worry about it. I just hope you can find the upside of things, too.

I guess you're just luckier than me.

[Chloe's life had been mostly shit.]
