No. Some people are born with at least some of their abilities. [As if toddlers aren't challenging enough, right? If she knew what he was thinking she might think to talk about possibilities of latent powers being triggered later in life, but she's less familiar with that, so it doesn't come to mind whereas Kurt is freshly on her mind and while his teleporting might have been later she knew he looked different from birth and possessed at least some of his abilities early.]

I've had lots and lots and lots of practice and training. [She smiles at him almost tiredly just thinking about it. Not that she didn't occasionally love the fighting. It was a thrill in a life with few of those.]

A superpowered baby?

[ he grimaces - that sounds awful. he's not too keen on the idea of dealing with kids when they're normal - add superpowers into the mix and you know what, no amount of money in the world is worth that babysitting nightmare. ]

[ blurting out compliments is his jam! but everything he's learned about kitty thus far - including the very important part of her being a friend of kara's - sort of makes him doubt that. besides, her control of her powers would continue to astound him if she used them for evil - except then it would be making him sad instead of excited.

for now, though, he's just going to enjoy not being the one to blush for a change. after what she did to him earlier!! he's going to relish it. ]

But if you want to enlighten me, I know it's hard to believe coming from someone who talks this much, but I'm...a pretty good listener.

[This is normally where she drops some kind of truth bomb. Something that was perfectly true and appropriately shocking, but with none of the context to soften it. And there is always context, because she's not evil. She's made hard calls and done things she didn't like doing to save people. An early death is just about the only way you leave her world clean and innocent. Earlier than the one she got.

Except she doesn't want to drive people away anymore. It's more of a bad habit she started in the prison to protect herself. Too many people were nice to her and she didn't know how to take that after being feared and hated for so long. She didn't like waiting for the other shoe to drop so she'd just turn the whole closet upside down and give it a good shake.]

Just something I got used to expecting from people, and I've done things back home that would probably be hard to understand for someone who...is as nice as you.

You'd be surprised.

[ a sympathetic sort of pain flashes through winn's eyes; he knows what it's like, to expect the worst from people, because that's what they've shown you. he's struggled so hard to break free of that cycle. in a way, his happy excitable demeanor is as much his shield as selective truths are to kitty. a part of him wants to tell her, wants to enjoy the twisted sort of freedom that came with everyone finding out back home - at least he didn't have to worry about that happening anymore! and kara's right, whoever kidnapped them probably already knows all their secrets, there's really not that much of a point in hiding them from the audience. but a part of him still wants to rebel, to keep them from having their drama. ]

Habits are hard to break but, I'm glad you're giving us a chance. I'm totally biased here but - you couldn't make a better friend than Kara. And I'm pretty awesome myself~ [ he tries to break the tension that seems to have built all at once with a smug sort of smile. he's far from perfect, but he does give his friendships his all. they're precious and few, after all. ]

[That gets a soft smile. She could have just agreed that she was amazing before and none of the tension would have shown up at all. The long way around didn't seem to hurt things either though.]

So, am I going to be surprised by what you can understand or by how nice you actually are? You shove puppies don't you? Puppy shover. I should have guessed.

[ especially where other people are concerned - winn always prefers the honest road. bottling things up is dangerous. ]

I do like that you're comfortable enough around me to admit it. I mean, you're a monster, but I still appreciate it. [She might even be wondering a tiny bit why Kara didn't like the kiss.]

[ he'd love to know that too. he'd also love it if other girls couldn't figure it out - it'd be great to walk a mile in james olsen's shoes. metaphorically, that is, the real things would probably make him trip and fall. ]

[ he ignores the twisting in his gut. his dad's the monster, not him, not yet. hopefully not ever. that's not a lie. ]

[She'd apologize if she knew there was gut twisting. She didn't want to cause that with thoughtless word use. She's been called a monster and worried that she really was one before herself, so she shouldn't be throwing it around. Maybe trying to reclaim it doesn't work that well.]

Consider the honesty points yours. Though you can trade them in for a variety of prizes like a plastic bracelet or one of those sticky hands things that never works. If you get enough, maybe even a slinky.

[ he would never expect one, words are what you make of them - it's the fact that recently his dad has constantly been on his mind that's responsible for the twisting, not kitty. especially since - she'd have no way of knowing. one of his favorite things about being kidnapped into space is that his name gets to be just his own, for the time being. ]

Right? Slinkies are the best. Especially on stairs. Of course I've never had one I didn't somehow immediately warp, but I also haven't had one since I was eight or something.

[It's okay. She has daddy issues too. Though they are more of the "because I saw them get murdered because of me when I was a kid" variety.]

That's half the fun! Seeing how twisted you can get them with one move. Seriously? OK, we need to get you a slinky, stat.

[ he has a whole bunch at home, oh how he hates not being able to open his drawer and pull one out right now, spend the day playing like kids, or at least a half hour.

A space slinky? You think? [Smiling over here.] I do already know someone who can control metal, but I already have him working on rebuilding my claws for me. I think requesting a slinky might be pushing it.

I know lots of other mutants. Most of them have different powers. [Laura and Logan are a special situation.] One of them can control metal. He's also the team founder back home. ...For my world anyway. And the person who trained me to fight has long retractable claws that pop out between his knuckles. So, I got a strap-on pair.

[ he promises not to let it get to his head! ]

That - is - really cool. [ would be a little frightening but he's completely over being scared of her! ] Are a lot of them here? -- do you have a uniform to go along with it? Because you should totally have a uniform.

[ he's getting so many ideas already! ]

Nine I think. More than I would have expected.

I had a uniform, but I wasn't wearing it when I arrived. [So no more uniform.] Kara mentioned you made hers. I may have questioned the skirt thing. [Not that she's seen it, but Kara described it.]

Nine! That's - yeah that's a lot - and all of them have their powers?

[ which. makes sense. considering mutation isn't that easily reversible. it does say something about their captors though - they're very confident in their abilities to keep very powerful people in place. ]

What other kinda powers are there?

[ he's probably not going to be the mastermind of their escape if he's perfectly honest with himself, but hey maybe he could come up with something that'll help somewhere along the way! brains he's got! besides, even if nothing else comes of it - powers are awesome and fun to discuss, ok! ]

Hey, it had to suit her style. [ his first draft had a lot less fabric to it. ] But it looks awesome and it's practical - never gets in her way. [ he never gets to share his excitement about his creation, this is a very special day for him. ] It's a way to set her apart from Superman.

None of them get their powers specifically from a yellow sun. [Though there are mutants who use solar energy. She wouldn't be surprised if Storm's powers were affected somewhat, but she already saw her generating lightning, so she knows they aren't gone.] Teleporting, fast healing, controlling the weather, charging objects with explosive energy, absorbing other people's powers, that kind of thing. [Maybe she shouldn't be telling him all this, but he seems harmless and it's not like she's connecting the names to the powers or that X-Men are usually shy. Then again one of the Kurts has something to make him look "normal" so she probably shouldn't assume.

She smiles, tilting her head.]

You didn't think the long blond hair and breasts would be enough? Then again, I've never seen Superman, so maybe he has those too.

So...basically powers can be absolutely anything.

Does teleporting mean not having to use the shuttles?

[ because in that case he likes to make a formal complaint: it's not fair, everyone should have that one. but he'll settle on just him, it would make his life so much easier right now. ]

[Yes, good. She likes it muuuuch better when he's the one flustered and not her.] Pretty much anything. [And yes, most of them can be terrifying, but she likes that he seems in awe more than in terror.] And not in this case. I mean under the right circumstances, Kurt could make the jump, but it would be really dangerous. Much more dangerous than a shuttle. Unless the ships were close together and stationary and he knew the interior already. [Blink could do it, but she's not here and Kurt's power works differently.] You mentioned a fear of heights... Shuttles too?
