The creche masters are very good at what they do. If it gets too bad, they visit Yoda. Having visions is normal. It's not something that should be hidden or feel ashamed about.

[ For a few seconds, it seems like Obi-Wan is unwilling to answer. His brow is knitted tightly.

It is a deeply personal question. Qui-Gon believed in Anakin and believed in the prophecy. How could Obi-Wan say otherwise?

[ "Can be" is not the certain answer she was expecting. The fact that she doesn't believe is a given, but she expected he might. ]

It's hard to conceptualize when you know him.

But then he does something that none of us could ever do before and - you just know.

[ Padme had seen glimpses of Anakin in the field, but Obi-Wan has been with him every step of the way. ]

[ She looks thoughtful. Padme tries to think of a time when Anakin did something particularly unusual. ]

I'm not sure what you mean.

It is not easy to explain. His instincts in battle or when he comes up with a plan that should fail becomes infallible. As the Force itself moves to ensure that.

[ She'd told Luke that the Force felt more like mixed luck to her, but she keeps that to himself. He might've appreciated the joke, but she's not sure Obi-Wan would.

[ His expression shutters briefly. It's been some time since he has recalled the events of Theed. ]

I think about that battle more than I used to.

When he finally took stage. Honestly, once I was told . . . it made an eerie amount of sense. Considering that all his efforts to stop the war were constantly downplayed.

My vote of no-confidence gave him the chance. To think I was so easily manipulated.

[ It's not guilt that's washing off of her in waves. It's anger. Betrayal. ]

He deliberately pushed you into a corner. Naboo needed the aid.

I know. And I know that if I didn't do it, he would have manipulated someone else into doing it.

[ With a rueful smile. ] He tries to assassinate me and yet my survival always seems to benefit him in some way.

It does make me wonder about our missions. At least, when I was with Anakin, I was . . . safer.

[ The ones he had done individually tend to go a lot more awry. ]

[ Thoughtfully: ] You think he may have sabotaged your missions somehow?

[ Not impossible. Theoretically the Chancellor shouldn't know the movements of the Jedi, but the war meant the Council and the Senate worked together more than usual. He may very well have access to information she's not privy to as a Senator. ]

Well, neither of us liked each other much.

[ And it would make sense. Obi-Wan would be a foil to the plan of making Anakin a Sith. No connections, working on fear. ]
