OTA!
james has been kind of in a funk since harry showed up, but he's been doing his best to keep on a proper face. it's not so much harry, really, but the notion that his life is probably not quite as long as he would like it to be. so he's wandering about the paisley, hanging out in his pilot's chair, practicing wandless magic in his quarters, or poking about the kitchen for tea.
or make up your own prompt, y'all know me by now, i don't care, pls. ]

He taps James' shoulder and offers his co-pilot a cup of tea. Tea and comfort. Something he'll never get. ]
What is it with tea that people like so much?
no subject
It's a very British thing.
[ informatively, and james inhales the scent of tea, sipping it ]
Suppose it calms your nerves, or something. I've been drinking it for as long as I can remember.
no subject
They have tea at the Jedi Temple too. My Master loves the stuff. I never developed a liking for it.
[ He assumes from the tone that British is the place where he's from. ]
How does this space tea compare to British tea, feeling more calm yet?
no subject
[ mildly, and james sets the cup down on the nearby dash ]
I'm used to tea leaves and milk, but space tea has a calming effect, just like normal tea.
Ok?
He wanders up to the bridge, and there is the other human magician, playing with a bit of levitation. Loki leans in the doorway and sips his tea, silently observing for a bit.]
Could be worse.
[He's seen a lot worse. Also much, much better. The whole god thing kind of messes up the relative scale.]
perfect!
I don't have my wand.
[ so. it could also be much better. james is in agreement. ]
Requires a bit more power, to use magic without one.
[ and james is a little prodigy, but he's also just 17 ]
no subject
It isn't a matter of raw power, but fine control practiced over economies of scale.
Have you discussed this with Remus?
no subject
Why, has he been working at it, too?
no subject
If he hasn't said anything, I should hardly be telling tales behind his back.
[Ah, so once again he is the secret teacher. Good to know. He probably shouldn't be surprised. He'd been Billy's secret for years, in Luceti, and they'd been much closer than he and Remus.]
There are more effective ways of training than what you are doing right now.
no subject
i imagine you're going to tell me them, and point out that you know the way, and I don't, yeah?
no subject
I rather enjoy teaching, believe it or no. Magics are my blood and marrow and freedom. And what I value most in students is curiosity and enthusiasm. [Because it is such an important, vulnerable thing, sharing something beloved.]
Thus, I see no point in wasting my breath on either of those things.
[Disappointing, but he's used to mortals being very disappointing.]
no subject
...Don't you look grumpy.
[Not the best way to start a conversation, oops.]
no subject
Do I look grumpy?
[ that's not something he hears very often ]
no subject
[Chloe slips past him, over to the counter, and starts looking through the food absently. Hmm.]
Somebody pee in your cheerios or somethin'?
no subject
[ airily, watching her search around ]
... Did you transfer?
{ why're you going through their food child ]
no subject
[And she didn't seem to be stopping. Rummage rummage.]
no subject
[ right ]
... are you looking for anything in particular, or -- ?
no subject
[And now she's getting stuff out.]
no subject
[ She stops dead in the doorway of the cockpit. The one time she doesn't look first is the one time Anakin's not in there. ]
Oh. I'm sorry.
no subject
Padme, right?
[ they keep missing each other, but james has heard things. all good -- obviously. ]
Anakin's not here, sorry -- want me to text him for you?
no subject
Padmé smiles in return. ]
That's right. And you must be James, the other pilot. It's nice to meet you.
Don't worry-- I can send him a message later. I'm not in a hurry.
no subject
[ graciously enough, and james gestures to anakin's seat, if padme wants to sit ]
How're you enjoying the fleet so far? Anakin was thrilled when you turned up here.
no subject
It has been [ she pauses for a moment, thoughtful ] a unique experience. On the whole, people seem kind or at least not actively hostile. Meeting people from other galaxies and times has been an interesting sort of cultural exchange. Though it can complicate things.
It would be more difficult if Anakin weren't here.
