[Asuka is sitting on her bed, with a bright red notebook and pen in hand and a slight frown crossing her face. She's still wearing the same form-fitting red-and-purple combat plugsuit she's been in since her arrival. For once, she doesn't look so much annoyed as she does wary, though honestly, with her, it's hard to tell.]

This is Asuka Shikinami Langley. [No wave. She scribbles something on a notebook page that's probably just a line and not any kind of script.] I have a few questions for everyone. The more people that answer, the more accurate the survey, so I suggest you tell me.

[All business. Asuka would applaud herself for her own professionalism if there was any point. There's no telling how long it'll last.]

First, I want to know your nationalities. Second, I want to know what your occupation was before the Fleet. I'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern to the kidnappings or any groups that get targeted more than others.

[Which is what the notebook is for. She really doesn't trust the network not to bungle everything at Atroma's whim. There's a brief, reluctant pause, and then--]

Before you ask, I was born in Germany. I was a pilot before, too. That's all.

I see. [X-men, huh. What a weird name for any group.] Did you enjoy any of it? You must have, or you wouldn't have stayed.

[passingthrough]

It was important. There were people who couldn't protect themselves. [But did she enjoy it? She knows she did sometimes—the thrill of fight, the bonding of teammates, or seeing her students do well. It all feels a little surreal looking back on it now though.]

[interstices]

How does assassinating fit into that? [Asuka's not really judging, though it might seem as though she is. She's just curious.] Were you getting rid of despots?

[passingthrough]

Got it in one. [No one was paying her for it. They were strategic hits.]

[interstices]

Good. [She can respect that. On to the next bit--] What did you teach?

[passingthrough]

Survival. Fighting. Whatever was needed.

...Also technology classes while I was in the prison.

[interstices]

That's a lax prison system.

[passingthrough]

[That earns a laugh.] You don't know the half of it.

Are you finding any patterns? [Kitty doesn't expect any really. Outside of most people will be more geared toward strange than not. Probably not a lot of accountants in the mix.]

[interstices]

Yeah. Most of the people who answered came from Earth. Everyone had jobs before that required expertise. The people I asked usually had an augment that fit whatever job they'd had before. [Beyond that, nothing. It's pretty basic information, disappointingly.] Nothing too significant.

[passingthrough]

My augment is pilot. I've flown aircraft.

[interstices]

[And she didn't have to ask for that one.] I haven't.

[passingthrough]

[She doesn't mind being forthcoming when there's a goal like trying to figure out their captors at hand, but that comment wins her a curious look.] I thought you said you were a pilot before. Not of aircraft? Spacecraft only?

[interstices]

No. I piloted Evangelion. You probably haven't heard of them. They're used against Angels.

[passingthrough]

Evangelion and angels? [Why does that seem familiar? Oh, right. Rei.] I think I have heard something about that back at the prison though. Not here or at home. I don't know much of anything about it.

It's like a mobile suit or knightmare frame? [This is what she gets for being friends with Neil Dylandy and Suzaku Kururugi back at the prison.]

[interstices]

I don't know what those are. [Mobile suit, well...] Evangelion are machines. [It's more complicated than that, but she doesn't feel like going into detail.] They're controlled through the pilot's ability to synchronize with their Eva. Your movements are the Eva's movements.

[Okay, so maybe she's not quite over gushing about Eva despite everything.] Who told you about them?

[passingthrough]

[She nods. Thinking that sounds similar to what the others described maybe. She didn't have any personal experience with them, so close enough.]

Her name was Rei. Blue hair. Met her a long time ago. [Okay, less than a year ago, but it feels like a long time.]

[interstices]

[Asuka's expression darkens, corners of her mouth suddenly tight.]

Yeah. I know Ayanami.

[passingthrough]

And you were not her biggest fan?

[interstices]

I don't like clones.

[passingthrough]

[Kitty didn't realize the girl had been a clone.] Probably not a clone's fault that they're a clone.

[interstices]

A lot of other things were her fault.

[passingthrough]

Probably better just to make it personal then. [Not that she really knows any clones, but speaking in defense of those who are different is second nature to her.]
