I thought you were supposed to eat the green parts... [Luke holds the leaves up to his nose for an experimental sniff.] I guess you'd know best. Better than me, anyway.

Usually, yes, but rhubarb leaves will make you sick if you eat them.

[ She takes his acknowledgement as an invitation. Unlike last time, she's in more formal clothes with her hair in a complex braid. She's blissfully unaware that she might be a bit intimidating. ]

It's been a culinary adventure, hasn't it? I've found fruits I've never even heard of before.

[ Both idle conversation and a way to ease any shyness or discomfort on Luke's part. Tatooine isn't exactly the capital of cuisine. ]

I'm glad you're here, then. [Luke says with just enough relief to imply he'd been considering doing just that.] Anything that isn't rations looks good to me, I'll admit. They've certainly outdone themselves on the Starlight, though; I never knew plants came in so many colors!

Padmé knows it's not meant to be a big, deep confession of his inner feelings. But there's a part of her that wants their approval. It's been a long time since she's felt that way and she's not sure what to do with it. Luke in particular has been hard for her to read.

She pushes all of that out of her mind for now. ]

You could probably bring one of them on board. To brighten up the captain's quarters.

[Luke laughs.] I gave the captain's quarters to someone else, honestly. [...Sort of. More like Logan used it enough that Luke didn't want it when he found it. Also, he's pretty sure he can sleep anywhere.] Having potted plants seems a little... extravagant for me. Maybe I'll get a holo...

[ She gives him an odd look. ]

Holos don't smell or look as nice.

[ But she catches herself. On Tatooine, a decorative plant is a waste of water, isn't it?

She starts looking through the nearest grocery bag, pulling out an orange and examining it with a trained eye. ]

Though you wouldn't have to water a holo, I suppose.

[Luke nods.] It always seems wasteful to me. I wish I'd listened more when my aunt tried to tell me about hydroponics...

I'm afraid I'm not well-versed on it myself. If you ask around, there's likely someone who knows about hydroponics.

[ Padme sets the orange aside. ]

Do you know how to cook? [ He might not know every ingredient, but maybe he knows what to do with familiar ingredients. ]

I know how to cook mushrooms. [His tone tells you jut what he thinks about mushrooms.] And anything made out of a bantha. That's about it.

Do you?

My family and I used to cook together. I learned all I know from my mother.

[t65]

[This brings up something Luke has never considered: grandparents. What an embarrassment of riches.] Can you tell me about her?

[diplomacme]

Her name is Jobal. She spends most of her time in Theed, working with the impoverished. [ A smile. ] She's an amazing cook, so they have her cook often.

She and my father are the ones who convinced me to run for Queen. Without their support, I don't know if I would have.

[ She'd still be in politics, of course, but perhaps not as Queen. ]

She's- she's alive? [It just slips out. For some reason, he assumes most people's parents are, well... quick, change the subject.] She sounds wonderful. I wish we could find some pictures of her.

[ His slip doesn't seem to bother her. The status of her family in the future hasn't been confirmed one way or the other, so she chooses to be optimistic. ]

She is, along with my father, older sister, and niece.

[Luke nods.] What was it like, running for office?

[ Padme gives him a strange look before her expression breaks into a smile. She shakes her head, smiling. ]

Sorry, I'm not used to people asking me that. Running for office is a little nerve-wracking. But the secret is to treat everyone with respect and listen to their concerns. You have to earn the trust of the people you want to represent.

Really? Do people really not ask? [He can't think why they wouldn't.]

I spend most of my time around senators and Jedi. The senators already know, and the Jedi often aren't interested.
