Also, thanks to Kate, we now have a SWEARS AND ATTITUDES JAR displayed prominently in the kitchen. Whenever someone's being naughty instead of nice, they're compelled to deposit a few credits (or at least an iou) into the awaiting jar.

[Oh great. Questions. The one thing Logan just loved more than anything else.

The claws slide back in.]

Hm. [It doesn't take a Jedi to see that Luke is clearly very curious, but, miracle of miracles, he holds his tongue. He isn't really interested in going into detail about how he lost his hand, anyway. Fair's fair.]

[In a supportive tone of voice that would be condescending if it wasn't so genuine, Luke says,] If you ever want to talk about it, you can. [But he won't pry, because today he's apparently an adult.]

But- one thing. Do you use those... often?

[He has a feeling he knows where this is going.] When I need to.

[Luke's shoulders slump, and his expression and tone is thick with... disappointment.] She's a sixteen year old girl, Logan!

[It's a hunch, but Luke's been wondering who would have a knife long enough to stab someone all the way through the shoulder.]

[His expression doesn't change. He's not looking for Luke's approval.]

That's why I went easy on her. She deserved worse.

[Luke puts his head in his hand, pinching the bridge of his nose. Azula might be some kind of Sith, can he really...? He groans.] Considering what you could do with those... and what she could... at least tell me she started it.

[He refuses to believe his estimation of Logan was that off.]

I don't go pickin' fights with kids. What I did is nothin' compared to what she did.

[Which isn't to justify what he did. He doesn't think it needs justification when it comes to a fight like that. But he knows good and well that the fact he looks otherwise unharmed doesn't say much for what she did.]

[Luke's memories of electrocution are too fresh-- might always be too fresh-- to argue with someone wanting to defend themselves against that. He doesn't want to think of what the conducting metal in Logan's arms must have done to amplify the charge. He just shakes his head grimly, clearly hating every word that he says.]

I know. She's dangerous, and I can't fault you for defending yourself. [Even if he wants to. The world would be a better place if he could sort things along such clear lines, but it isn't, and that's... something he'll just have to deal with.] I just wish you didn't have to. No one should have that kind of power.

[No one should have that kind of power sounds dangerously anti-mutant. It's the kind of talk people like Senator Kelly would try to push. It was the sort of justifications made for the Sentinel program. It was how mutant hatred was so easy for people to rally behind.]

Her powers ain't the issue here. The kid just needs some sortin' out.

[Luke thinks of the Force, and its potential for harm and help. He supposes he can see both sides of the argument-- someone shouldn't have so much potential to go dark, and yet, their darkness or lack thereof ultimately rests on them.]

[It's a cheering though. Luke is, once again, reassured.] You're right. She just needs time. I'm not the one with the experience sorting out kids, though. [He grins. Logan is the one who called himself a teacher, after all.]

[He has long ago ceased being surprised at people wanting to entrust troubled teenagers into his care. But somehow even this seems a little odd.]

Experience, sure. But I was also the one who put a hole through her shoulder.

[It's because Luke would always prefer to be trusting until proven otherwise. Logan seems like's confident in what he's doing, so Luke chooses to believe him.]

We all make mistakes, Logan. What's important is... do you really think Azula can change? [Luke does, of course, but he wants to know what Logan thinks.]

It wasn't a mistake. But sure, she can change. I've seen worse come back. Don't mean she will, though.

[Logan being a prime example of that. The laundry list of dirty deeds for which he was responsible for was enough to condemn him to hell a thousand times over. But he'd come back from all that thanks to Charles Xavier.]

[He shakes his head.] It doesn't mean she won't, either. We've got to try to help her; if we don't, she has even less a chance.

['We', because Logan's apparently been drafted into the effort.]

Less than a chance is all she's got. I'll cut her some slack, but I ain't gonna play therapist for her.

[After all. He made a particular promise to Azula. He'll keep it if he has to.]

[Luke shakes his head.] I wouldn't be a very good therapist either, Logan, and I think she'd be an even worse patient. But everyone needs someone to believe they can change for the better.

Maybe I'll buy her a teddy bear.

[Logan may have gone through hell and back trying to help Laura and Daken with differing results, but he has no reason to feel much of anything for Azula. He's still plenty bitter about being roasted alive a few times.]

[Of course, believing that Logan can believe in Azula is Luke's way of believing in Logan. Which essentially means he's stuck with it for a while. Or until he stabs another princess, whatever.]

Whatever a teddy bear is, I hope they're flame-retardant.

[He starts to move on since there's not much else to say. He's not going to get mixed up in these exercises Luke is playing with here. He'll just go do a jog through the station instead.]
