Sometimes I meditate too. Just-- not doing handstands. You know, sitting normally.

Otherwise, sometimes I go through my lightsaber forms. Moving meditation.

We did a little of that. Yoda said I needed to stay still; I was too impatient. [Reckless, daring, thoughtless, you know, the usual.] Maybe that's why he had me do it, and not you.

Maybe.

Have you tried building or fixing things? For meditation, I mean. That's what Anakin does, when he's agitated.

Well, yes, but that's not... is that meditation? For Jedi- Jedi from your time? [Is that permissible? He can just hear Yoda telling him how he has to focus, how tinkering with crude implements is just another vestige of impatience and a severe lack of vision.]

[resnipstance]

It's not exactly traditional, but if it works, who cares? Everyone is different. What works for one person isn't necessarily going to work for another. I think sometimes... some of the more conventional Jedi ways fail to take that into account.

But how am I to know the traditional Jedi from the traditionalists? [Wait, actually, more importantly... Luke looks up at Ahsoka with a painfully earnest intensity:] Was my father a traditional Jedi?

Absolutely not. That's why we worked so well together.

[t65]

Oh. [Luke isn't sure whether to be relieved or disappointed.] What about Ben?

[resnipstance]

Obi-Wan? Obi-Wan is... I guess you could say he's the model. The pinnacle of what a Jedi traditionally should be.

[t65]

[Luke isn't sure what to make of that.] And Yoda?

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka frowns, clearly not quite so pleased.]

Yoda too. I guess.

[t65]

Did you two... get along? [He feels he knows Ahsoka well enough to ask at this point, and he's always itching with curiosity about how the Old Order operated.]

[resnipstance]

[Carefully, neutrally:]

... I thought we did. But I guess I was wrong.

[t65]

[Luke speaks with the slow ease of the emotionally fluent,] Do you want to talk about it? We don't have to, of course. I can go back to standing on my head, if you like.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka purses her lips for a moment, clearly uncertain. It's the face of someone who isn't sure whether their bond is close enough for her to emotionally burden Luke with something so heavy or not.]

Oh. Um...

[Instead, she does another hand-stand, to avoid looking at Luke head-on. After a moment, she starts walking around the cargo hold on her hands, seemingly relaxed. In actuality, it's to give her something to occupy herself while thinking.]

Mm. It's just-- it's a super long story, you know? When I left the Order, it wasn't on the greatest terms, and... well. It's kind of depressing.

[t65]

I'm sorry to hear that. You seem like just the sort of Jedi I'd want to be like. [He won't press her. Instead, he watches her walk on her hands and wonders if he'll ever be that acrobatic.] Honestly, a lot of what I've heard here about the Jedi of old... confuses me.

[resnipstance]

[That makes her smile fondly, and she comes back down on the floor right-side-up.]

Well, why don't you tell me the parts that confuse you, and maybe I can help shed some light on it?

Though-- just to be clear, there are some aspects of the Code that still confuse me as well.

I think it's a bad sign when you feel like you understand everything, [he says with a bit of humor,] then you stop learning. But... well, first, I don't like the idea of taking children from their parents-- their families-- so young.

[resnipstance]

Oh. Well-- the idea is to prevent attachment.

The children aren't forcibly taken. Younglings who come to the Temple are given up by their parents willingly. It's a choice, and we would never remove that.

[t65]

But- what's so wrong with attachment? [luke no] That seems like the point of being a Jedi, to me. [luke stop]

[resnipstance]

No. The point of being a Jedi is compassion. It's a small but important distinction. To have love for all life, but not grow attached-- that's our struggle as Jedi. Attachment means... placing value or importance on one person or group or place over another. A Jedi must be above that. A force that the universe can depend on to always do what's right, no matter the personal cost.

[t65]

And what if the right thing to do is be attached? [This isn't a thought experiment, for Luke, but he can hardly tell Ahsoka that. He just speaks with complete conviction and hopes he won't be laughed at.]

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka raises one eyebrow, confusion evident on her face and in the Force around her.]

I'm not sure what you mean.

[t65]

[Luke can't really... tell her all the details, so he switches tactics, so to speak.] Have you ever met a Sith?

[resnipstance]

You mean, apart from the Chancellor?

I guess I didn't know it at the time, so it doesn't really count anyway...

[She does a small impromptu cartwheel across the cargo hold floor to burn off her flicker of anger thinking about it.]
