Oh, a sponsor sent me a pipe that blows bubbles. Apparently they didn't think I'd like actual tobacco... either that or it was too expensive. Keeps the cleaning bots busy at any rate. Oh, and I'm reading up on detective manuals.

Wow, I didn't even know that was a thing. But that makes sense because tobacco is super expensive. [At least where she's from.]

Detective manuals? Are you gonna be a detective and solve a case?

Mmhmm- and I like not having the side effects of actual smoking, so I'll take it.

I'm toying with the idea of opening a detective agency- make me a little office on the Iskaulit. Of course, I'm not sure how much use it'll be here, but it's an idea.

Are the side effects bad? [The General smokes all the time, back home, and she seems okay.]

You should do it! [Thousand watt enthusiasm here.] Oh! You could borrow Officer Snuggles if you need someone tracked or something! His training is coming along really well!

Oh, yeah- all the stuff inside cigarettes is bad for your health. At least where I come from. Maybe elsewhere it's different.

Huh. I guess it's still bad when I'm from? Not many people smoke. But I guess if they get sick, it's easy to fix maybe.

He's very good at looking pretty too! And he's a great morale officer. If anyone gets upset with you, get them to pet the fox.

Yeah... not so much where I come from. Best way to avoid the damage is just avoid starting up the habit in the first place.

Now there's an idea. I could even incorportate the fox into my business logo.

Um. So wait, do you not have like cybernetic livers and stuff either?

Oooh. You could make it a pun, like Fox Detectives because you have a fox to work with and you're a fox too! ['cuz your hot, hahaha]

Heck no- but that sounds pretty cool! No, if we damage our organs, we either have to wait for a donor or somehow do without.

Wow. That sounds... uh. Kind of gross. [And archaic. Wow.] I'd be in so much trouble if there weren't cybernetic organs. That's like... everything except my brain and like one of my kidneys or something.

[Hey, she's got nothing against being frank about other people being hot.]

You sure are! You're the hottest guy on the ship.

Cybernetic organs do sound useful. Transplanting organs is a dicey prospect at best- we're working on ways to be able to grow new ones, but humanity hasn't gotten that far yet.

[He laughed.]

I'm the obligatory hot dad, I suppose.

Guess it's good news that you'll get there eventually. Like I don't know how far back from the past you are, but it's hopeful! [Even if the space zombies and being trapped in a dome city isn't very hopeful.]

We're lucky to have the hot dad on the ship then. [Laughs.] Okay, and it's not weird for me to tell you you're hot, right? Some people get weird about that shit and I never know. [She just says whatever is on her mind.]

The year was 2012 where I came from, so we've still got a ways to go. Which is a shame- I'd love to see the day where we have cyborgs and stuff. My cleaning bots are almost too cool for me.

... Dang. I can't even conceptualize that far into the future without thinking of science fiction. Good to know humans are still around and kicking, though.

Oh yeah. We're on a ton of different planets and stuff. Like, my planet is totally fucked, but humans are just fine. I think? We haven't had any contact with anyone else since the Crash, but I'm sure everything is okay out there. It's not like everyone could die in like twenty years.

Not everyone, most definitely not. That's really interesting, though- to know we as a human race finally got off Earth. In my time, we'd just managed to get a probe to Mars and were still waiting for the probe we'd sent to Pluto to get there.

Oh, so you don't even have the Mars or Europa colonies yet?

Wow. I mean, I don't remember what years those were. [She doesn't remember anything well, let's be honest.] But hey, maybe it'll be soon and you'll get to see people build cities on Mars! And the terraforming and stuff.

Nope- we're still stuck on good old Earth. And I'm sure that will happen eventually, just maybe not in my lifetime. It's nice to dream about, though.

Wow, it'd be so cool to see Earth, though.

Maybe some day! Different dreams that are kind of the same, huh.

Wow, you've never seen Earth? Really?

Nope! I was born on Zeus and I've been there all my life. We have a jump gate in system so maybe if we could get off planet I could travel but... no one from Earth's tried to get to us since we lost contact either. It's kind of worrying.

Hunh... so something might have happened to Earth?

Maybe? Or maybe they just don't care about us. I don't know. The problem is that the communications relay got blown up, so we have no information or news at all.

Ahh, yeah... I can totally see "we didn't care enough to fix it" happening, sadly.
