Hey, it wasn't a real criticism. Nothing to be sorry about. You want something to eat? [She doesn't mean herself.] Do you eat food too?

[ FOR A SECOND HE WONDERS and tenses up accordingly, but when she clarifies his shoulders sag in relief and he straightens, pulling back a little so that he can give a sheepish expression. ]

Only raw meat. Cooked food or vegetables make me sick.

[She notices the tensing, but isn't sure what it's about.]

Oh. I'm not sure if we have that on hand. Sorry. I guess processed foods with limited nutritional value are the same way? [Chips?]

Um...maybe? They don't smell like food to me, but my stomach might not be totally changed yet. I could try... [ He doesn't sound incredibly confident about this though. ]

[She shakes her head.] Let's not do that to you or the chips.

Sorry... Vampires are usually only supposed to have blood.

Still not something to be sorry about. Some of the ones I knew before ate a lot of food too. Some didn't.

Really?? They must've been really young then!

I think it just works differently in different places. The ones who ate the most were alive. One, at least, was just born as a vampire.

Born like...baby-born??

That's the typical style, yeah.

But...how?? Vampires can't have babies!

They could in their world. Her parents were both vampires. Different realities can surprise you.

That's...but... [ He's having trouble wrapping his head around the possibility, hands clutching a little at the back of her shirt. The idea's so impossible to him that he winds up frowning, but not with displeasure. ]

Well...yeah. I mean, it's the one reason most of us even make new vampires! It's super weird to think of it just...happening like it does for humans. We aren't supposed to be able to do that anymore.

...Are you okay? [Are you sad you can't have kids, Sascha?]

[ He is, actually, and what he won't expand upon this moment is that he's tried to make them before.

Via bite, of course...but that's another thing that sets him apart from his peers. His bite doesn't change people near death. It only finishes the job. ]

It just sounds too good to be true, you know? To think that it's that easy for other people just like that...

[She rubs his shoulder.] We all just live the lives we've got. [She wanted kids once herself. She didn't accidentally bite anyone to death for them. But she has wanted them. Maybe still does, but things are complicated.]

It's be easier if I could live one like yours though... [ Human, he means. Because mutant or not Kitty may as well be as normal as anyone else; he's the one that's different. Strange. He doesn't even fit in with his own kind. ]

Sascha [She sounds a little tired as she goes on] as long as you're going to want to imagine someone else's life you could pick an easier one. [But it's true. She does fit in with mutants at least. Some mutants. They were also the ones she was fighting against. Without her team she would have been very alone too.]

But I like you. [ He answers as if it should be obvious why he chose her, looking at her with an uncharacteristically solemn expression. After all, if her circumstances had shaped who she was and such a wonderful person had come from them, isn't that what matters? ]

[Softly.] Thanks. [It's not really something she needs to talk him out of. It's not like they can just switch though it does sound like the kind of thing that would happen at the prison for a day. And it is sweet of him if nothing else.] I like you too.

[ And hearing that? Means more to him than she'll ever know. Sascha's going to hug her all over again, cheeks flushed happily.

He really has a friend♥ Somehow, against all odds...he has one. ]

[She hugs him back again. It's all getting a little excessive, but she honestly doesn't care. She's been lonely and missing contact and this helps her and it seems to help him a lot so where's the harm? She hopes...nowhere. Please don't let it backfire on her. She's not sure she could take it if he started killing and she needed to do something about it. There's been too much of that kind of thing in her life already before the Fleet.]
