Like, things young do with their mothers. Kitten knead with their paws, pups tend to suckle and gnaw.

Oh... [ Does he have something like that, he wonders? He doesn't remember having a mother (if he ever had one to begin with), or what he'd have been like around them. Whoever made him didn't stick around after all. ]

I never had anyone like that.

[bb_wolf]

[It flashes Bigby to his own mother. White fur, warm smell, sweet and snowy.]

You probably did, once. Before your amnesia.

Aww, it's okay. You can say it. "Before I died," right?

[bb_wolf]

[It clearly hadn't passed his mind to say that at all.]

You seem fairly alive to me.

[pneumo]

[ Because he is, even if he isn't really aware of it in the way that something like him should be. So Sascha waves a hand. ]

To be a vampire you have to die a little first~ That's why you forget everything! It's brain damage.

Huh.

[Interesting. He thought maybe it was trauma, like Flycatcher.]

Fair enough.

[ It's not a pitying response, which is actually kind of nice. Bigby just accepts and rolls with it, and that actually makes Sascha rather happy as he takes another eager bite of what's left. ]

Humans are lucky...they don't have to do that at all.

[bb_wolf]

When humans die, it's game over. No coming back.

[They die and don't get up. He watched a lot of people die during all those wars.]

No, I know...just. It's nice to have all those memories and stuff.

[bb_wolf]

Sometimes, yeah.

Sometimes, being able to forget would be good. Not everything. Just some of it.

[pneumo]

Aren't the bad and good both supposed to be important?

[bb_wolf]

Yes. Incredibly.

That doesn't mean you always want to remember. They might be the things that helped shape you, but that doesn't make them hurt less.

[pneumo]

I guess I'm not old enough to have anything like that yet...

[bb_wolf]

Not since you lost your memory.

How do you know you're a young vampire?

[pneumo]

Well... I can still eat meat and stuff. And I didn't wake up that long ago! [ ...Comparatively. ] If I was Mature then I'd be waaaay different.

[bb_wolf]

[Bigby leaves it at that. He trusts his gut instinct, but it can be wrong.]

What are the mature ones like?

[pneumo]

Mature Vampires are like...I mean. They look human but they don't really look human, you know? They don't feel things like other people, all they care about is what makes sense and stuff. And they're waaaay harder to kill. Sunlight still works, but even if you stake them it does nothing 'cause their heart is totally stopped.

They're kind of scary, actually...they're crazy strong.

[bb_wolf]

They're human in shape, but there's nothing human behind that.

[He had to learn how to put that mask on right. How the face moved, what was good and bad with movements. Other humans find that he tends to be too still, not always show emotions on his face.]

What about ripping their heads off?

[pneumo]

That works☆ It's actually the only way to kill us once we're mature! You're good at this.

[bb_wolf]

I'm good at hunting and killing things. There's very little I haven't hunted for food.

Or fun. But that was mostly the Adversary's troops.

[pneumo]

Who's that? [ One more bite to go here, and then his meat's all gone♥ Absolutely delicious. ]

[Bigby thinks about how to describe it.]

We don't know who or what it is. It started invading different worlds of the Homelands, slaughtering people into submission. The soldiers were all... tainted. They tasted bad, like they were infected with something. However many you kill, there's always more. I hunted them for a couple of hundreds years, I suppose, until they forced me to retreat through the ways between, to the Mundane world.

If you fought, you were killed, or enslaved.

That was actually how I met Snow and her sister, Rose. I freed them.
