A year, huh... [Jennifer looks distant and sounds a little sad.] How... [She hesitates.] If you've been here for a while, what kinds of things do you do to cope when you're really, really missing home? Because I've been thinking about my friends back home a lot lately, and having been the only person from my world here this entire time... [She trails off, and decides to just wait for responses.]

In that case, I can't really think of it as a selfish motivation, then- or you're not any more selfish than I am for taking you up on your offer. It's a huge world out there, but at least everyone on the Fleet does have our presence here in common.

[Vash nods along as she speaks.] Space is breathtaking. And it's amazing just how much is out there, but still, even knowing that there are worlds full of people out there I always hated how lonely and empty space can feel.

It really is... and I was lucky enough to be able to experience it back home. But even then, I never felt alone because all of my friends were always with me. They were the first group of people I feel like I ever belonged with... and on days like today, when I realize I've been here for a year, I miss being able to experience things like this with them more than anything. It's times like these that I DO need to be reminded that I'm not alone most of all.

[Vash reaches over in his seat to place his hand on Jenny's shoulder. Physical contact was something he preferred himself.] You have a whole fleet who care for you. I hope you never forget that. [Okay, so maybe not the whole fleet, but he's going for the grandeur at the moment.]

[Jennifer smiled softly at the touch and nodded.]

And I can continue doing what I love most here, too- helping people. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Well, with what seems like more and more people showing up here everyday, they sure could use help and a friendly face I'm sure.

Yeah, it was getting pretty hectic there for a while, wasn't it? And then it slowed down to almost nothing. I wonder if there's any reason for it?

No reason I've been able to figure out. It just seems so random to me, but I just get this feeling it's not actually random.

Like Atroma's doing it in purpose, just to keep us on our toes?

Or maybe spontaneously arriving and leaving affects the ratings. I really don't know.

I wouldn't put anything past them at this point. I keep trying to figure them out, but it always leads to dead ends.

At this point I've decided to just enjoy the ride and all the new people I could meet while stuck on this crazy and extreme road trip.

Sometimes I'm pretty tempted to do that, I'm not going to lie. But... I'm not sure I could ever let this go, either. If I can do anything to help anyone get back where they belong, I'd like to do it.

Oh, I wouldn't say I've completely let go. I just don't think we'll be getting many answers from our hosts is all.

[Jennifer nodded.]

They're infuriatingly vague. And they can be insulting- like when Diamond told me the audience found my lack of self-confidence endearing. Or their whole deal where they seem to expect us to be happy about what's happened to us.

Yeah. Or how the whole universe seems to have heard of this show and I haven't met a single person on the fleet that has heard of it before.

Which is strange, isn't it? My teammates back home have had experience with alternate dimensions, and even then, nobody's mentioned the idea of being kidnapped for a space reality show. It's... very bizarre. We do have reality shows in my time, but they always have willing participants, and they have a set number of episodes before the show is over and they're allowed to go. Atroma doesn't follow any of those rules.

Alternate realities? I have to admit, that sounds like something right out science fiction to me. [Says the anime character who is over 130 and has travelled in space before.] But yeah, if you're doing all of that you would think a show like this would have come up before.

Of course, maybe it's an illegal show, that's why it breaks so many rules and no one has heard of it.

My life pretty much IS a science fiction show. [She smirked.]

You know, that wouldn't surprise me. If they ARE doing this illegally, it makes sense that Atroma never replies to us and always talks about us like we're happy to be here. Because if the audience catches on that we're unwilling participants... it could blow up in their face.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. I would also love to know just how they manage to get us all here. Technology like that could really help out back on my planet.

That's a good question, too. We have interplanetary travel and teleportation where I come from, but it's always limited in some way. Like, to beam someone aboard a ship, they need to have a transmitter implanted in their skin, and there's definitely a limited distance they can travel. Atroma moves massive amounts of people around like it's nothing- and they make sure nobody tries to stay behind on planets, too.

Not to mention these chips in our heads that let me do things like pilot this shuttle. I've never done something like this in my life before I showed up here.

[Jennifer shuddered.]

I was lucky to have an augment that matches my skillset- but I can't imagine how that must feel. And it takes a lot of effort to meddle with someone's thoughts. Even back home we haven't even been able to begin to scratch the mysteries of the human brain, but they're able to just do it like it's nothing. I wish I knew how. And why.

Want to know something funny, I'm not sure I should be telling you while we're on a shuttle? I'm actually not a very good driver back home.

[Jennifer laughed quietly.]
