Time for a talk
Who: Jaina, Leia, Luke
Broadcast: N/A
Action: The Bishop
When: Forward-dated 3/25
[Over the weeks, Jaina has been falling into something of a routine. It’s not that she’s really accepted that she may be in the fleet on any kind of long-term basis; it’s just that she is a young woman who tends to cope by assigning herself more work. She’s supposed to be one of the ship’s engineers that keeps it flying? Then she’s going to make sure the ship continue to run like it’s brand new.
She’s got a crateful of parts that are carbon-scored from use, and she’s lugging it back to her bunk, planning to settle in for some scrubbing. Just a relaxing afternoon of work -- and when she enters, there’s Luke and Leia.
It really wasn’t so long ago she was the kid trying to salvage droids to do chores without parent’s approval, or trying to secretly claim her own derelict star fighter. Instinct has her freeze momentarily, mouth opening for an excuse. Finally, she clears her throat.]
This is all part of routine maintenance. No rules being broken.

When Jaina returns, she has to swallow a laugh. The girl looks so certain she's going to be in trouble that Leia can't help but wonder whether she ought to be keeping an eye out for less routine projects that might be going on.]
I'm sure it's all aboveboard. That's not why we're here. [A little smile.] Your Uncle Luke and I wanted to have a talk with you.
[So, uh. Have at, Uncle Luke.]

[It takes him a second to recover.] No, no, you're- you're fine, Jaina. I just wanted your advice on something.
[That's- that's a good way to put it, right? He looks to Leia.]

A nod, and she lugs the crate over to a corner, letting it clunk down.]
Advice? I'll try my best. [First instinct is always to try helping out where she can.] But I might still have some things to learn before I can answer everything.

Well...
It was partly due to necessity. One of your former students had started a dark Jedi academy and had started to attack New Republic targets, as well as students. You taught us that a Jedi is never unarmed, but we needed to be able to defend ourselves. Not everyone was ready for a saber. For those of us who were, it was an important step to take.

And what made you ready to use a lightsaber?

My friends and I encountered the Shadow Academy twice before that. We had proven ourselves. You felt we were ready for a greater challenge. That we'd understand this wasn't a reward.
