[Takeshi's kept to himself, mostly. Maybe it's a strange depression phase — he's usually very productive, really!! Before he was always doing a job, after their ship crashed on a planet, or before that, when he was morale officer on the Tranquility. But now... Now everything feels so weird. He has his own little room again, but his things... they're gone. He used to have the wooden cut-outs his dad made him. Reika and Mattie, the princess-warrior and dragon. Now they're gone... and so is his drawings. Things that reminded him of good things. Well! He's not gonna let it hold him back anymore!

Which is why he's randomly teleporting into everyone else's ships to look around them. In your kitchens, your cargo bays, your medical areas and main controls. Everywhere. What? Nobody ever said touring the fleet was off-limits! He's got his flexi-armor on under his large sweater and a small holster with a gun on his hip beneath the hem of it. Because that's normal. Just like it's normal to wander around people's places of living.

... Ahem, but the Blue Fish's door is shut, and he just knocks and waits in front of it expectantly. Not sure if you can see him out the door, seeing as how he's like... not even four foot tall yet. But he's there.

After he investigates thoroughly, he goes to the gym, because now that he doesn't have his power suit? He's gotta get fit and prepared as best he can. Granted, he's by no means going to take anyone in a fight, but he's still gonna practice. His dad, he practiced, like, all the time! So it stands to reason he's gotta work out, too! You can hear is little huffs and puffs all the while; a careful release of air as he punches.

He can be seen punching a bag on the lowest section (because, y'know, shorty), his brow fixed in a determined stare. While he's clearly not inflicting any damage with those strikes because he's not exactly grown enough to, anyone with any skill in hand-to-hand combat may notice that he's actually not throwing punches with reckless abandon like a child playing pretend. No, actually — it's a genuine technique, albeit not perfected yet. He had studied his adoptive father quite often and picked up a few moves of his own, to be sure.

[ -- gentle cajoling didn't do much good, did it? and now kate seems stymied. she doesn't want to just give in and allow such casual carrying. and although she'll fight for the right of young people everywhere to be taken seriously, it's not like this one's a teenager or anything.

she exhales. ] Safety's on, though. Right?

[He nods firmly.]

Yes ma'am! I'm doing -- gun safety!

You don't gotta worry. I'll help protect you if you need it. It's my job.

[And he's utterly confident in this, too.

It was one thing to be unarmed; now, he's got a place again on the team.]

[ she sizes him up (or down, as the case may be) and decides not to laugh him out of the bunk-room. let him believe she needs his protection, if that's what gives him such good-hearted resolve.

so kate turns on her bare heel and grabs the pastel nail polish from where she'd left it on the bunk. ]

Do you like purple?

[He nods, padding on over to the side of the bed.]

I think it's a nice color! I like all kinds of colors, though.

... Except for poopy green. But I don't think anybody likes that color.

[He hefts himself to sit on the bed.]

Is it your favorite?

[ she flashes a wider smile for poopy green. what a kid! and then she sinks down to sit next to him. ]

One of'em, yeah. Purple's at least in my top three.

[He beams at her once he's finally up on the bed, crossing his legs and wiggling his own bare toes. Apparently, he doesn't have shoes. Mostly because his shoes were considered weapons and taken by the Atroma; details, details.]

I don't think I'd be good at painting nails. I can draw pandas and rabbits, but...

I think I'd mess them up!

It's tricky. [ she wants to let him know it's okay to have a hard time with it. ] Took me ages to do it myself, actually. You have to have a steady hand.

[He nods in understanding and solidarity.]

It takes practice.

... I had to practice a lot before I was good at fighting people! But then this place took my special suit, so I gotta start all the way back over.

[He looks quite put-out by it.]

Here, gimme your foot -- [ she holds out a hand. ] I'll give you a fresh coat, and you can tell me all about your special suit.

[ because that sounds very interesting. and a little worrying. ]

[Here be his little piggies; good luck! He keeps his foot really still for her sake, settling in a comfortable sit. They're small nails, so you can properly test your aim. We all win.]

Hmmm...! My suit was really special. [As said before.] The man in the ball gave it to me, so I could fight aliens that were hurting lots of people. It made me super stronger! I could throw all kinds of bad guys and I could run real fast. But the people who stoled us, they stoled the suit, too.

Prob'ly cus they were scared I was gonna throw them.

[ hey, little dude. she hopes you're not ticklish. but just in case you are, she keeps firm hold on his heel and twists her body so she's facing away from his face. but towards his toes. luckily, she can still hear him. ]

Aren't you the cutest little Iron Man. [ she starts with his smallest toe. ] Who's the guy in the ball?

[Takeshi shrugs, messing with a loose thread on his sweater.]

I dunnooo... Maybe he's... I don't know.

He told us we could leave if we got a hundred points. 'Cus we all died before he brought us back in the apartment. He said we could live if we played the game. And he gave us suits and guns and told us who to kill. An' if you tried to run, he'd --

[Takeshi sighs, rubbing his head with a hand.]

He'd make their heads pop! S'plode.

It's something he put in our heads.

I... think he did it. I never met nobody else but him. Only one time.

[And that one time hardly counted, the man was dead so quickly, he'd never spoken to him face to face.

Takeshi isn't too sure; he's just a kid with limited information. Listening to all the adults talk was helpful, but... it's hard to cycle through all the information, except for the important stuff his dad talked about with him.]

[ -- that is futzed up. but kate doesn't show it. the last thing the kid needs is someone wigging out over his story, when to him it clearly sounded almost natural. but she keeps track of every detail. ]

Hey, [ she moves on to the second smallest toe on this foot. ] That's a lot to take in. Can I ask questions, kid?

[He smooths out his sweater patiently, humming in his contentment.]

Mhmm-- oh, that's pretty! Yeah, you can ask me questions. M'good at answering most!

I was... morale officer on my old ship.

-- I'm starting to see how you might've been good at that. [ she smiles. ] My name's Kate. What's yours?

[Oh, silly Kate, he already knows your name.

But he knows that's not your fault. He flashes a bright smile.]

I'm Takeshi! I'm -- seven! And I'm from Japan.

S'how I always say hi to new people, because we never know if we're from the same places.

Well, I'm from America. [ she returns his good cheer. ] And you'll forgive me if an old crone like myself doesn't want to divulge her age.

[ ha. ha. ]

You're not old!!

[Well okay you are to him, but he's a bitty, and that's just the way of it.]

You're young and beautiful! You look like a fair maiden warrior!

[ oh, she laughs. sharp and sincere -- because on some level, she can't exactly disagree with him. kate doesn't look in the mirror with disappointment, after all. ]

Most gentlemen forget to add the warrior part. You're pretty observant, aren't you?

[He blushes, proud of himself. Making people laugh is always a victory!

(He just hopes he didn't say something dumb.)]

I guess...! I dunno! What's observant mean? If it's something good, then I'd like to be!

It means you notice things. [ she leans back a moment. ] It means you've got good eyes. Like a hawk.

Hawk eyes!

[He makes his eyelids wider with his fingers, pleased with this explanation.]

I met a Hawkeye before! He made me get out of the vents!

Takeshi -- did he happen to be blond? Maybe also went by the name Clint? [ maybe she shouldn't go all private eye on a little kid but -- hey, this is relevant to her interests! ]

Mhmm! And he liked arrows.

He should be careful, though. Those're real pointy. It'd be bad if he fell on one!

[REMEMBER, KIDS, PRACTICE ARROW SAFETY.]

He was friends with Natasha.

[ friends? with natasha? hah -- but kate figures the term 'work wife' probably didn't resonate with someone so young as him. ]

Right. Arrows. You know, he's definitely fallen on one before. I've seen it happen.
