[Y'all, Misty can't be the only one who hates this place, so let's all gather on the Iskaulit, safe from all that dark and rot down on the polluted moon and have ourselves a good time!

Still getting used to that word.

Then I'll just have to repeat it until you commit it to memory.

[ It isn't like him. Usually, it's just Obi-Wan, the Jedi. Alone. Even now, he feels the sting of it.

But in this . . . he could learn. ]

[Her smile grows.]

It's getting easier already.

I should hope so.

And what about you? Are you feelin' any better since last time?

Somewhat. I had time on my side.

[ The wounds are deeper, but Obi-Wan is excellent at repressing his feelings. ]

That's good. A little progress is better than none, right?

That depends on where that progress leads to.

[She frowns.]

[ A common mantra, one everyone has heard Obi-Wan say. ]

I follow the Code. I've . . . let Anakin and Ahsoka follow their own Code, but it's not mine. I can't go down their path.

That's what kids do though, ain't it? I'm certainly not what anyone expected.

They're not actually my children, you know.

[ And Obi-Wan is no father. Not really. ]

Well, no, but you say Jedi are taken when they're real little right?

[ Obi-Wan nods. ]

That's right. I must have been one or two when I came to the Temple.

So the Jedi teachers are the ones who raised you. Just 'cause they ain't your blood doesn't mean they ain't parents.

[ Obi-Wan scoffs lightly. ]

I'd hesitate to call them that though they are my family. But those connections aren't meant to be - regarded.

What do you mean, they aren't meant to be regarded?

They can be dangerous to a Jedi. Certain attachments can lead to fear and anger.

I've felt it before. I know its pull.

What about love and kindness and all that? Believe me, you can get just as scared and angry all by your lonesome too.

Those are encouraged, so long as it's distributed. In a way, a Jedi loves unconditionally. To love the Force is to love all life.

[Unconditional love. That's something Misty doesn't know much about, except from her religion and maybe from Cordelia.]

I don't think I'd make a very good Jedi then.

If it helps, not anyone can be a Jedi. It sounds simple, but the execution is far more difficult. I was not an exemplary Jedi until much later.

[ And it comes with a lot of baggage. One look at Anakin would prove that. ]
