[ There is something to be said for the few seconds before truly waking up, when everything is fuzzy and safe and nothing matters as much as it did the night before. But that moment tends to get shot in the foot pretty damn fast, especially when Dean is prone to waking up with a rush of adrenaline. Made infinitely worse by the realization that a) he does not know where he is and b) the automatic grab for the weaponry usually confined to his body results in nothing. Nada. His pistol is nowhere to be found, the blade in his jacket is missing, and no amount of grappling about solves that problem. And while he finds the comm device it only annoys him further because it's not his damn gun.

Which is right around the instant Dean shoves himself off the bed and shouts near as loud as he can manage- ] The hell is this! [ Followed with some more grumbling. ] Be better if I asked which Hell is this.. swear to God, this shit never gets any better.

[ It’s too echoey, too sterile, and the immediate need for answers is almost overpowering. He doesn’t give two shits about looking himself over, pushes aside thoughts of the last image that flashes across his mind, and instead gives one more look around the bed he woke in to try and find his weaponry because fuck this shit. Why he’s unarmed is of particular concern and a vast amount of silent panic, but he doesn’t want to stand here and leave himself open to anything either. Which implies moving, something that takes only another second to decide upon.

Not that he’s going to be going far…

No, after a brief stint of stealthy meandering, Dean manages to find himself striding down towards the medical wing because why the hell not. Where it’s near impossible to resist the urge to start rifling through just about everything he can get his hands on. Because Dean Winchester is a Class Act. And because living through the apocalypse tends to make one appreciate medical supplies, especially when you're inclined to... start shit. ]

So, last time I went into detail with this part she immediately tried to cut it out of herself and while I get that. I do. A lot. It's not that easy. And none of us can get to you if you fuck yourself up. So don't.

[And yes, that concerns her. Even if she doesn't feel like she lives up to the term she's still a hero. Superhero even. Kitty takes a breath.]

A few of us ran some...tests on getting the augment out. It feels the person getting it taken out and the person trying to take it with this deep dread. [Which was not a fun experience for her. She's not exactly used to having to fight that. Not for a long time.] It all ended in a bloody, unsuccessful mess. [Though no one actually died.]

[ That's.... that sure is something special. And really kind of fucked up, leaving Dean to do not much more than narrow his gaze and look really damn uncomfortable on a variety of levels. It's not that he even remotely minds fucking himself up, not in any way, but he just sort of wants to know more. After which he might be inclined to do something worse, but information seems to be something that people are lacking around here and considering he's been The Man With The Plan for five years now, he would like to be in the know. ]

Do I want to know where it is?

[She looks at him for a moment before responding. He'll find out eventually. It's up to him to make the same mistakes she did or not.] No where weird. It's not like it's in your junk.

Back of your neck. It's hooked up to the nervous system from what I can tell. Based on things I heard later it sounds like removing it could cause brain damage. Not sure if that's conjecture or proven fact though.

[ WOW WHY. Why!!! His mind hadn't even gone there but now it has and he just barely suppresses the urge to look down, carrying on instead as if she hadn't said anything. ]

[It was mostly what she'd learned about Sam's life at the prison. Partially from interviewing him for the Defense Force. And partially second hand through Reid since they were friends. But she decides to keep it simple again.]

[ ..... porn is really the first thing she brings up. Really? Is his ex-infatuation with porn so significant that it's worthy of the first slot in this conversation? Dean just sort of looks bemused for a second before she carries on and he glances off instead, listening. It's always weird to hear himself spoken about, but it's even stranger that it's being done by someone from a different universe.

Color his mind boggled.

But if he has to admit it, it's easier to speak with someone who already knows something. Like a really damn convenient way of breaking the ice in a way he wouldn't usually be willing to do. ]

You watch a lot less porn when there isn't any electricity. [ True facts. But, carrying on... ]

[This might normally be the time when she gets it out of the way and tells him she's not human, but that comment stops her short.] There's no electricity? [It sounds like something she'd say except she doesn't normally reference porn. That's more a Dean-specific treat.]

What was going on back home?

[ To say it or not to say it. That's the actual question. But he's already gotten past the ghosts and monsters oh my bullshit, and it's not as if it's some huge overarching secret back home. So why the hell not. ]

Okay, you're either normally really good at hiding that, from previous Dean's future, or from a different reality.

So end of days like civilization collapsed? War on a massive scale?

You got a different Dean. [ That's not something he has to effectively get over, at least. ]

I'm guessing you don't mean the powerful, immortal mutant by that name, trying to show survival of the fittest by wiping out humans.

People born with the X-gene. We usually manifest powers at puberty along with the acne and other fun things. [Yes, we. She doesn't hide who she is. Not even from people who don't like non-humans.]

[ Well, but see- the non-human thing generally only extends so far. Not to mention, he hasn't had to deal with demons and ghosts and things for awhile now. Not at the top of his priority list. Just like.. mutants. You start killing people? Whole different story. ]

And you've got one goes by Apocalypse.

[She nods. Seeing no overt reaction to that she continues.] He took over North America. Destroyed or irradiated huge sections of the globe. Culled cities. Labor camps. Mass graves. Pens for genetic experimentation.

I've been fighting against him since I was thirteen. Until I got pulled out anyway.

[ Jesus. That sounds... exceptionally awful. ]

And what, he's doing it for shits and giggles?

[It wasn't good. She didn't even mention the part where she became Batman after her parents were murdered in front of her.]

He talks about survival of the fittest a lot. Kind of a trial by fire for everyone. No idea what made him this way. Maybe immortality made him lose his mind.

I don't know. I don't even think I care. I just want him very dead which...according to someone from home from a year in the future he is. So, there's that. [Not something she'll ever see or could have been a part of, but it happened and that's enough.]

What about your world? What are you up against?

[ Oh yeah, he gets that. The wanting him dead thing. He gets that really, really well. Because there are some things in life, that no matter how violent and potentially wrong, and morally twisted they might seem, are entirely worth it. ]

Lucifer.

[Kitty has done a lot of killing in the pursuit of saving lives. She always had to just push it aside and keep going because someone had to. Someone had to be out there fighting and protecting. But then she was yanked out of the fight and dropped in a safe multi-dimensional prison that was more like a paradise to her. She spent almost a year there with all kinds of time to think about the things she'd done and break down the walls she was using to protect herself. It let people in, sure, but it let other things out too. Those kills weigh heavily on her even if they were necessary. Even if she'd do them again under the same conditions. It's not really about them. It's about her and what she lost in the process of killing.

But she isn't going to lose a moment of sleep over the thought of killing Apocalypse.]
