[ the feed jumps straight to broadcast with kate bishop's face framed in the shot's centre. she must have only recently been below on the poisoned moon because she's still wearing her mask. give her a moment, and she's tugging it down around her neck before removing it completely. ]

Quick and painless interruption. I promise. Couple weeks ago I talked to a guy who didn't even know about the Avengers. So who does? What about the Young Avengers? I've seen a few familiar faces but there's gotta be more of us. Right? [ oh, she sounds hopeful. ] Or maybe you've heard of the Avengers while you were stuck somewhere else before here. I'd love to hear about it.

[ --- kate waits in silence for a moment, before adding: ] Also, I wish the fleet had a dance club. [ ... ] Hawkeye, out.

[ later that evening, she can be found at the classier gin joint on the iskaulit. although she's in a dress and her hair could be accurately described as done, kate sits with a nursed singapore sling and a notepad at her corner of the bar. it looks as though she's reviewing earlier conversations from the network, and is transcribing the occasional note. that said, she seems approachable. whenever someone passes by, she nods a greeting and smiles. doesn't hurt to be polite. ]

-- You do? [ hey, there's that hopeful tone again. kate gives herself for composure's sake. ] Like, back home?

[ Again, he pauses. ]

Yes and no. I knew the same ones you do. They were with me in another place called Aather.

[ well. kate went through this with nova, so she doesn't bother easing in. head first, she plunges: ] Did you know me?

No. I knew Loki and Cassie.

[ loki has the world's most punchable face so she barely bats an eyelash for him, but... ]

Cassie. [ now, there's a name she doesn't expect. once upon a time it might have stung a lot more (and if she's honest, it still stings by its fair share). but cassie's alive, again. kate doesn't get to visit her as much as she likes, but she's alive. ] Wow. There's a face I wouldn't mind seeing again.

[ He smiles, a little softer, a little younger. ]

It's been some time since I've seen her.

Ditto. [ exhales. ] I mean, we text. But there's a lot of space between Miami and New York.

How . . . How is she?

[ It's one thing to peer into time and try and see her and another to hear about her. ]

Great, I think. [ after all -- being not dead has gotta be great. ] Living with her mom. Uhm, I hear she's mostly short these days.

Ah. As long as she's . . . [ Happy seems off, for some reason. ] content.

She's still in high school. So, honestly? [ ... ] Content is probably stretching it. But that's what it's supposed to be like.

[ kate sighs. ] Cassie's a hero. Through and through. She'll get back to that in time.

I've never been to school.

[ Though, if he wanted to, he could probably dig up the ancient memories. ]

She is, as they say, a trooper.

...Is she ever. [ but then again, whoops -- where are her manners? ] Hi, I'm Kate.

[ He bows lightly. ]

I am called Leto.

Leto? [ -- why does that sound so familiar...

oh! ] You're the, uh, new guy. Just transferred.

[ the video catches her glancing around. ] Are you already on board?

Yes. I'm in my room.

[ He didn't have much to take with him anyway. ]

I know that it sucks we have to share the one big bunk room for the time being but -- pretty soon, we'll be able to afford individual quarters. Promise. [ ... ] Why don't we meet in the kitchen?

[ He considers this before nodding. ]

All right. I shall see you there.

[ luckily, it's where she's already camped out. upon arrival, he'll catch sight of a young dark-haired women sitting cross-legged on the mess bench. her filter mask from the moon below has been left discarded on the table. she's wearing a lot of...purple.

but when leto arrives, she pops to her feet and holds out a bow-calloused hand. ] Hi, again.

[ Iolite was close to that colour. He wonders if that was deliberate now. Aather worked in mysterious ways. Leto himself was dressed in a button up white shirt and brown slacks.

When he reaches to shake her hand, she'd feel the strange alien skin that covered most of his palm. ]

It's nice to meet you in person.

[ strange, indeed. kate pulls a face while they shake hands, but she doesn't comment on it. ]

Mmhm. I'm the cook, I guess. But I don't do breakfast and if you're late to lunch or supper then you're stuck reheating your own meals.

I can live with that.

[ He doesn't really need to eat much anymore anyway. ] I am your new tactician.

-- Are you any good?

[ kate's worked with a lot of good tactical minds. and (on occasion) she is herself a passing strategist. but she wouldn't ever call herself a tactician.

she wonders what kind of help the augment gives in that department. ]

[ He chuckles, a low throaty sound. ]

You should see my winnings in chess lately.

-- Gimme a sec. I'm stuck imagining people actually placing bets on chess games.
