Good afternoon, Fleet, I’m Dr. Crusher, of the Blue Fish, [She gestures a hand towards Wrath] this is Wrath, of the Windrose, and we have an important request of our fellow fleet members. Wrath needs to undergo complicated back surgery, involving the removal of cybernetic implants. I have the skills and done the research necessary in order to do this, but I do not have the facilities or all of the equipment that I need. If anyone with medical, engineering, or computer knowledge would be willing to help us construct a surgical suite, I would, of course, compensate you for your time and energy. Please send us any questions you may have and thank you!

[Wrath waves and grins. She's leaning on her familiar cane.] Hi everyone! Um! Like Dr. Crusher said, I really appreciate any help, it'd be great to be back up to full effectiveness and kicking ass! This is so great, I never thought this injury could get fixed so I'm really... just hopeful. So thank you everybody.

And uh. It'd probably also be good to have someone who can talk to the nanobots that regulate my bone growth and muscle fibers. Cuz my old doctor put a governor on the muscles so I wouldn't hurt myself, but once my back is fixed I should get retuned to full speed.

I'll definitely compensate anyone for help too!

Well, I'm adorable that way, but I haven't actually done anything yet. [Thanks are hard enough to accept when she has, okay?]

So, cybernetic implants?

Um. Well.

So I think the only original organs I have left are like my brain and my pancreas and one of my kidneys. My entire skeleton's metalloid composite that's regulated by nanobots, and most of my muscle fiber is tuned synthetics. Which are older than the skeleton. And my right leg and left arm and right eye are all artificial replacements. And. Uh. I think that's it?

[She doesn't react overly much. She's met plenty of people who are fully artificial or in part. Still, you never know how they feel about the situation.] Must be a hell of a pancreas. [Okay, but what do you say?] Is that standard procedure back home?

Um. Well, if you get really badly injured, I guess? All my augments and replacement parts got covered by the army, though. That's probably the only reason I'm still alive.

I wasn't sure if it was all for fixing or if they did...upgrades there. [There was plenty of modification at home and usually without the person's consent.]

Oh, sure. That's a thing too. For rich people though. Like body mods and sculpts and stuff. But lieutenant's pay isn't that much. I couldn't afford that kind of thing if I wanted it.

I guess that makes sense. [Money wasn't much of a thing in the second half of Kitty's life. Sometimes it takes her a second to wrap her mind around how important it had been when she was a child.] Do they enhance performance?

Some of it's just cosmetic. Like the body sculpt stuff. Some of it is an actual augment. That's basically everything I have going. I guess if they have to replace something of yours, they figure they might as well make it better than the original.

Makes sense I guess. [She tilts her head a bit.] I'm glad Beverly thinks she's got a shot at this for you.

Are you in pain now?

It's really exciting! The doctors back home couldn't figure out how to fix my spin after it regrew all fucked up, so yeah. I'm really hoping.

[Shrug.] Dr. Crusher has me on so really good chems so it's not so bad. I'm tough.

[She nods, taking that as a yes.] We should probably get this thing together. Are we going to be foraging for supplies on stops or does she think we basically have what we need already?

I think the problem is making sure we have the right equipment. For helping with that you better talk to her directly cause she knows what needs to happen and I don't really.

I can do that. Sounds like plenty of people are looking to pitch in.

I know, everyone's so nice! I'm lucky to be in such a great fleet.

People do seem to get along here, don't they? Has there been trouble with that before? [Always the curious one looking for problems.]

Mostly. Like sometimes you get someone who is a troublemaker, but then you just have to gently explain to them that it's wrong.

Gently explain, huh? By putting their head into a wall?

That's more like... um. Strongly explain. Sometimes you just have to be emphatic and firm but people learn eventually. Like you normally only have to have the chain of command talk with someone once.

These must be some talks you give.

After you run a platoon for a couple decades, you get really good at giving talks.

You've never come across someone who was resistant to explanation? [She feels like there is a hidden something she's missing here.]

Well yeah. Just gotta explain it again and again until they get it or scrub out. Strongly.

Well, glad it's worked out for you at least. [Kitty wishes she could have talked her way out of more fights, but things had been peaceful in the fleet at least.] And I hope all this works out too. I know people from Beverly's world can do impressive things.

What she's told me sounds... really fantastic. And I thought our medical was really advanced. Or maybe it's just different. [Or maybe Whiskey had done it on purpose. That's a thought that really bothers her, and she hates herself for thinking it.]

Our capacity for genetics was pretty incredible too, but mostly just in bad ways.
