[so, on the Station, there was a bit of a fight involving a couple of elves and a demi-god, and someone got their heart crushed (quite literally).

the audience loved it! ratings skyrocketed! and there's probably some good gossip to be had.

if anyone wants to catch the participants after it's all over, or wants a place to hold their own conversations or interactions related in any way to the aftermath, this is the place to do it.]

Because he is keeping a slave. So no, it wouldn't be nice if I hadn't killed him.

[ No wonder. Perhaps Merrill wouldn't have immediately resorted to murder, but she doesn't feel very sorry for Robin anymore (she hadn't even known him), and she doesn't fault Fenris. If anyone in their group has the right to kill a slaver, well, it's him.

But nobody else is aware of that. Even Kaneis didn't know! This could still be bad. ]

What about Nel? Did he see it? [ That would be especially trashy, Fenris. ] Was Robin...hurting him?

[He'd argue with her not to come, but he knows she won't listen to him. Nothing stops Merrill when she's on a mission. ]

No, he didn't see it. I'm not a monster.

It doesn't matter if he was being hurt or not. He could be well treated and it would not change the fact he was still being kept as a slave. He would still be seen as someone's property.

[ Except her sense of direction! And mirror. Nothing gets in her way this time, at least. ]

You don't need to defend yourself on this to me, I was only curious what state he might be in now. He shouldn't be alone, should he? You would know better than me.

[And this is the part that...is worrying. He hates talking about this, but he knows Nel will need help, too. Help that he can't give. He's barely out of the other side of that hell himself.]

He will be lost. We are made to believe our masters are everything. The sun in the sky, the water in the ocean, the ground at our feet. That without them we are nothing, that we have no reason to exist.

[He can still remember those horrible first few days on Seheron. If the Fog Warriors hadn't of found him, he doubts he would have survived. He wouldn't have had the will to do so.]

He needs a new reason to exist.

[ She just doesn't understand that. Merrill does understand idolizing someone, perhaps, even respecting gods, but...this? She would make such a terrible slave, she thinks. ]

[He'll allow her in, and reacts to that face with a grimace. He doesn't like it when Merrill has ideas.]

[ It's not that unusual for her, gosh. Walking in, Merrill looks around because ooooh she hasn't actually been in here before. She should meet the rest of his crew properly! On their ship! Oh this isn't the time. ]

I was thinking that Nel knows so little...about anything, really. As if a babe! Say what you will about the Dalish, but you have never called us humble, have you, Fenris?

To teach him our ways could help him gain a sense of self and purpose.

Of course he knows so little about anything, he hasn't been given the opportunity to learn anything. Slaves aren't given the chance to do anything that can make them feel like their worthy beings.

Wait, you want to teach him how to become a Dalish? That's-

[He stops, mid-sneer. He thinks they're a foolish people, hanging onto false hope, trying to rebuild something that they can never get back again. They're ridiculous. He'd rather cut off his ears than learn their ways.

...But Nel. Nel wasn't him. Nel was hopeful and young and not jaded by the world. What he needed was hope. Even the false sort. Anything to ride him through the pain of the first weeks of freedom.

So very, very begrudgingly:]

The ridiculousness of the Dalish might be a distraction that could help him. Maybe.

[He'd found the Qunari, after all, without becoming part of the Qun. The kid wouldn't have to become a Dalish.]

[ She had expected more argument! Nel's case must be very bad off indeed. ]

[It is, and Fenris has zero options.]

I do not know, you can ask him, offer it to him. He may be reluctant, but he needs to find something, or his freedom will eat him alive.

How might I bring up something like that to him, I wonder? Is he going to grieve? Will he be happy? I don't want to be...rude and say the wrong thing.

He will likely grieve, he will not understand you are trying to help him, at first.

Imagine him a ship, that has been cast drift on the sea. You will just have to do whatever you can.

[Honestly, the kid could use some of that stubbornness. Fenris would never admit it in a billion years, but she might be just what Nel needs. ]

He doesn't have an intrinsic distrust of magic, for a start. The curiosity is good.

[Testily] Not about magic, before you get any ideas. His lack of distrust is foolish, and will likely get him killed one day.

[He exhales.] You Dalish are full of fantasy and ridiculous dreams of things that can never be again. You have a lot of foolhardy hope. ...But the boy would do better, living in a fairytale, than facing reality right now.
