[ In her video transmission, Kara has her blonde hair up in a messy topknot, wearing standard-issue clothes. She pushes her glasses up the bridge of her nose and looks a little sheepish ]

Um. Hi! Sorry to send this to everyone... Well, I had a question I wanted to pose to everyone but then another thing came up and...

Does anyone know how to reattach a door to a washing machine? I had a little mishap... and I still have a lot of laundry to get done. Anyway, it'd be awful if I didn't at least ask how to put it back the way it was.

The second thing is completely unrelated. Does anyone else feel really weird about wanting friends or family to show up? I don't think I'd wish this experience on anyone against their will, but as long as we're going to be here... it'd be nice to have familiar faces, don't you think? How do you deal with the conflict?

And is there any way to request they bring crullers with them?

It does, but I've had close relationships forged as fast or faster. Sometimes they just sneak up on you.

He filled me in on home. [She doesn't seem excited about that.]

It managed to get a little better and then a lot, lot...lot worse.

[ she's sympathetic, and waiting to hear more if kitty feels inclined ]

The plan we were all working on worked or didn't work? I can't really tell. Were weren't supposed to still be there at all. But they were. [Sure did switch from we to they.] Apocalypse was defeated and for awhile they had something resembling peace.

...But it didn't last?

Turns out the original Apocalypse had been empowered by an alien race. They came back and found a new host.

...Someone I was close to. And this story only gets worse.

Ah... Do you want to tell me more?

Let's just skip to the part where everyone's dead. [She takes a breath, refusing to get emotional about it again.]

[There's a nod because she doesn't fully trust her voice. But there's no emotion, really.]

[ she heads over quickly... maybe a little extra quickly, and seeks out Kitty, knocking lightly on the doorframe ]

[She opens the door. Maybe she should work on getting enough credits to increase the bunk sizes because they are remarkably tiny—only big enough to have been split up to private rooms at all—which wouldn't matter except she finds herself entertaining in it. Not that this is entertainment exactly.] Hey. You know, you really didn't have to...

[ she won't over impose in the space. she knows she invited herself over ]

It's just really hard to hug my friends through the communicator?

[ a statement and a question: can she hug her? ]

Oh. [There's a note of surprise in the tone. It should probably have been expected, right? She's not always the best at accepting affection and sympathy on her own behalf. Not until she's gotten to know someone pretty well and it's still so new with really everyone here except her Kurt. That's part of why she hasn't actually shared this with anyone since he told her. She's been carrying it around for a few weeks now. After another moment she just nods her consent.] I guess that would be harder.

[ kara recognizes what a leap it is for kitty—she hasn't known her long, but she's really not terrible at reading people. she steps forward to give kitty a good hug—strong, but not too strong. confident and empathetic, paying attention to when Kitty is done with the hug ]
