[The camera shows a handsome, very built man sleeping in a bed. And it continues to show that for a very long time. Either is started broadcasting very early, or he's doing a very good job of pretending to be asleep when he's not.

When he does move, he sits up carefully, pushing his hair back from his face. He's wearing cargo pants and a plain white t-shirt that seems somehow too... mundane on him.

He gets up after a brief stretch and moves over to the communicator, picking it up and clicking it off without offering a word.]


On ship
[Apollo eventually emerges from his room, a bit somber and subdued. He wanders around in bare feet, moving quietly along the metal hallways. When he finds a window, he leans his hands against it, looking at the distant star at the heart of this system with undisguised longing.]

By interesting, I assume you mean like the Chinese curse, May you live in interesting times.

Interesting has various definitions. I use it because it lets the listener decide what it should be.

[ He shrugs lightly. ]

My Chinese is a bit rusty. I can't remember that one.

My Chinese is terrible, Shen promises me that what I think is speaking Chinese is not.

My sister and I prefer French. It rolls off the tongue a little easier.

[ French is a dead language in their time, but probably not one here. ]

[ He understands more languages than he speaks. Though he can introduce himself in a lot of languages. "I am Apollo, of the Authority and I am here to help" is an important statement to make when you fly onto a scene. ]

Really, I'm not sure my English is all that, honestly.

What makes you say that?

Well, I speak English like a native speaker. Which means I don't have an excellent understanding of things like grammar, sentence structure or correct pronunciations as defined by a dictionary.

Language is organic. You may not recall the rules consciously, but they exist in the subconscious.

Jack speaks the language of whatever city he's in. In his own accent, which is sort of funny.

Maybe all that's true, but I still feel a bit like the team meat head.

[ He is the team meat head, in fairness. ]

Ah. I always assumed that involved a fair bit of thinking as well.

Nah. Not for me. I was made for this stuff. I'm great in a fight, just not great with over all things. Working decisions for a team. I... freeze.

Jenny, our old team leader, Jenny Sparks, she was amazing at it. I don't know if it was experience or just natural talent. Maybe both.

She was convinced that when she led teams, people died, but she kept us alive. All of us.

And a good leader should be humble. Even fearing death can be an asset.
