[ The audio comes on sharply, but everything is still dark as two people discuss their situation.]

Is that the camera? Can you get it to work?

I am pushing it, Hank. I thought you knew about these from that show you keep watching. Space Trek?

It's Star Trek and that isn't exactly - you know, the same thing as this.

Right. . . . Wait, I think I see something on the side.

[ And the video flickers on, the red light glowing softly. It focuses on two men. One in a wheelchair and the other right next to him, peering curiously at the camera before they step back satisfied. ]

Well, that’s over and done with. Hello to anyone who might be out there. My name is Charles Xavier and this is Hank McCoy. Apparently we’ve been kidnapped again, by an unknown force again for some mysterious reason.

[muttered:] Again. [and louder] So if anyone would be kind enough to explain exactly what's going on, we'd appreciate it. You have our thanks in advance.

From saving the world to making lunch. Actually sort of sounds like my retirement has been. Hopefully with less requests for ice cream for dinner.

[ha ha saving the world. That makes Hank grin, albeit a little wryly]

That doesn't sound so bad, at least. I've never been much of a cook myself, should I be envious?

I don't know. Wait until we see if I'm any good at it and then decide. I only really started eating again at regular times because my daughter needs food, I usually just ate when I felt like having food.

I'll keep an ear out for when you're cooking, then.

[he tilts his head] You have a daughter?

Yeah, Jenny.

[ His hand moves to a pocket on his cargo pants, digging out a photo wallet and holding it out.

There's a photo of a little girl, with distinctly asian features. She's grinning and she's haloed by a soft, pale blue glow, mostly around her hands and feet. ]

That's my Jenny.

[he takes the picture carefully, and immediately smiles at it, wide and genuine]

She's beautiful. How old is she?

[he gives it another look before he holds the photo back out to him]

She's nearly seven. Few weeks off. Was planning on throwing her the princess party she wanted; Angie was helping me with arrangements. Maybe even let her get her ears pierced, if she wanted.

[ He takes it back, fingers smoothing over the image. ]

Shit. What's she going to do without me?

[his expression sombers a little, but . . . ]

I don't know if it's . . . much help, but I've been told that time can be - different, between here and other places. It certainly isn't flowing the way it's meant to.

Kitty said that. That time may not pass. Narnia time flow. Please tell me you know what Narnia is.

I know what Narnia is.

[he can't help but grin a little]

Well, I hope this place is Narnia and once I get through the wardrobe doors again, Jenny won't even know I was gone.

Mm, that's my hope too. I imagine everyone wants it to end up being like that.

Most people. Some people might like skipping some awful times in their world.

That's true . . . maybe it's different for everyone?

People are all different. Me? I want Jenny to never know I've gone. I have to be the rock she can trust to be there.

What about you?

Me? Well . . . it would be more convenient if time didn't continue while we were gone. But most of the people I'd worry about are already here. Ironically.

Yeah? I don't know if I should lucky you that they're here or unlucky for all of you that you are.

Honestly, it'd be a little bit of both.

Hm. Yeah. Guess so. I sort of wish I knew anyone here. I mean, I like to think I'm fairly friendly, but it's not the same as having people you know.

Actually... I can think of quite a few people I know that I'd not want to run into ever again. I think I'm good as is.

[his lips quirk in a wry grin]

It's not, no. But I don't think you'll have any problems making friends. So far, everyone seems . . . nice? Friendly? [for the most part]

I usually don't have problems making friends. I'm outgoing and sunny.

[ He gives a grin, as if that phrase is particularly amusing to him. ]

Plus I'm going to provide food. Everyone likes food.

Providing food is a good way to make friends.

Obviously, that's why I have the cook augment, to compliment by friendly personality.

That's one way to look at it. I'm finding that the augments tend to suit people - either their skills or - personalities.

[ Oh Hank, just wait until you meet a few others... ]

I don't know what options there are, but given that I don't need to eat and rarely cook, it wasn't what I'd think was first choice for me. But apparently it was.
