It's Star Trek and that isn't exactly - you know, the same thing as this.

Right. . . . Wait, I think I see something on the side.

[ And the video flickers on, the red light glowing softly. It focuses on two men. One in a wheelchair and the other right next to him, peering curiously at the camera before they step back satisfied. ]

Well, that’s over and done with. Hello to anyone who might be out there. My name is Charles Xavier and this is Hank McCoy. Apparently we’ve been kidnapped again, by an unknown force again for some mysterious reason.

[muttered:] Again. [and louder] So if anyone would be kind enough to explain exactly what's going on, we'd appreciate it. You have our thanks in advance.

A professor, actually. I was planning on . . . starting my own school.

[ Restarting to be frank. ]

A general school, or do you have a specialty?

We do, in fact. We're meant to teach new mutants how to control and use their powers.

[takingkarabusiness]

Oh, I'm friends with a woman who's a mutant here. Actually, she said she was a teacher...

[ HMMMMMM ]

That sounds like a great place for people to learn.

[axiomed]

That is the idea. I know that having powers and not fully understanding them or how to control them can be a terrifying experience. My hope is that there is a place where that can be expressed without fear.

I'm not a mutant, but I have some... peculiarities, I guess, and I would've liked a place like that, I think.

[axiomed]

[ He doesn't push. ]

Well, the working theory is that time works different here. So maybe you'll be where you left off when you get to go home.

It holds water. Erik has been here for a month but he certainly hadn't gone missing at home.

I don't know if that's reassuring or not.

A friend of mine showed up but I feel like he knows more than I do.

Like he's from... farther along than me? In time?

Well, that's . . . odd but not unusual. Coming from different points of time does happen in these places.

I met a time traveler once.

Really?

Yes. It was hard to believe but it was no less true.

[takingkarabusiness]

I don't doubt that it can happen, I just don't know that I've met someone who would define themselves as a time traveller.

[axiomed]

Oh, he wouldn't call himself that. He'd probably call himself "bub" or something along those rustic lines.

[ What fondness. ]

"Time bub" at least?

[axiomed]

He's not the most . . . verbose of individuals.

There's always one or two of those, no matter where you're from.

[ He chuckles. ]
