[ The video flickers on to Leto sitting on his bed, kicking his legs briefly. He grins when the video starts recording, pushing himself onto his feet. He tilts his head, that odd bird-like movement he often exhibits. ]

I have heard some interesting things of late, so I thought I'd put the question to you all. When you fall in love, can you only love one person? Can you fall in love with multiple people? Is love something you find yourself stopping after just one?

It does when there is none to be found on the mortal world and the Gods keep it all.

[ He sighs. ]

But we are no longer in that world.

That does not mean I shall forget what knowledge he may offer me. Even if I will learn from this.

And no one would ask you to. Our worlds are a part of us. But we can also be more.

More than our worlds. [ She considers for a moment, watching him for a moment before she bows her head. ] Perhaps it is so.

[ He eyes her, amusement in his eyes. Though it does not seem to be that he's laughing at her. ]

Sadly all I can offer are words in the wind.

That is what most words are. They are idle and come and go, forgotten as a day begins anew.

[ She can't help the way that she goes a little guarded, watching him intensely. ]

Then what words do you treasure? For there are some that mean something to you.

No. There are none, for all meaning has been lost or taken from me.

[ Once, it might have been love, or home, or family, or the names that are twined with those thoughts. Now, it is nothing, nothing but barren feeling. ]

[ A dire mentality. He'd come across many though in her, it was . . . sad. ]

Is it not possible to find meaning again?

No.

[ Lauralae turns her gaze away, frowning. ]

Is once not enough?

It feels far too fleeting.

[ To fall in love once, to feel only once, to believe only once. Leto could never do it. ]

[ Her eyes turn back to him and she watches, curious, wondering. Finally, she speaks. ]

Fleeting, perhaps. But safe.

But you are immortal, so to speak.

[ There are other words, but those were rude. ]

What is it you wish to be safe from?

Yes. I cannot die, and only my Lord can punish me so.

[ Swallowing, she breathes out. The intensity of the conversation hangs thick but she cannot lie - she is too honest, too forthright, and that is part of her pains. ]

What I have already suffered. I will not allow it to repeat.

[ Ah. He's silent for a while. ]

Do you believe it will repeat?

How can it not? It is the nature of the world, the nature of life.

[ To love means to hurt. To trust means to risk. To live is to burn. She knows that. ]

I do not think life is so cruel.

[ And he certainly doesn't believe that it isn't the full nature of life. ]

You have lived a life far different from my own.

[ It is that simple to her, black and white in the agony of her choices. ]

True. But I would still stand by it. Your life has had indignities. But I do not think that is not what life intended.

If it intended otherwise then why hand me such things? What is the reason?

I do not think it has one. Life rarely has reasons for why or how. It simply is. It exists in a multitude.

[ Asking why, Leto has always found pointless. Why did Alia go mad when he didn't? Why did everything that way? Life did not intend to, but people did. ]

People's choices often dictate the flow of life.

And people's choices can destroy lives, ruin them, break them to ashes and leave them rot upon the ground they tread.

[ The bitterness comes out sharply and she pauses, almost shocked by her own show of emotion before she breathes out. ]

If things are to happen for a reason then our suffering must have cause. It must be a test, or a sign of what is to come. I simply cannot imagine what it may be.

[ A test . . . ]

I suppose it could be one.

I would believe such of my Lord, or his Family.
