[ Kirk braces as the other surges in, trying to watch the whole of his body rather than focus one place. That was a quick way to get yourself sucker punched. He turns so that he can take the blow on his shoulder, coming back with his own hook, shuffling a step in. Already his lips are splitting in a tight grin, the adrenaline starting to pump. ]

Eventually, he shifts to the side, moving a punch to Kirk's left.]

[ That one he sees, reaching out a hand to brace and push Fenris' punch aside in a redirect. In the same motion he stepped in again, twisting to use his shoulder as a battering ram and attempt to throw the other back. Most of Kirk's movements were meant for this like this - keeping space, or otherwise avoiding major injury.
Even so, he's grinning, because he can tell Fenris is going to make him work for it, which is precisely what he wanted in the first place, and it wouldn't hurt to learn something a bit more aggressive either. ]

He jumped back, raising his fists, panting for breath after what felt like forever stepping around the matt and taking blows. Even so, he was grinning fiercely. ]
Ready to give up yet, Fenris?
no subject
Still, he huffs out a laugh, standing straight again. ]
I rarely give up anything, but if you wish some respite, I think we could both use it.
no subject
A break sounds good. Need to keep hydrated and all that.
[ He laughed and made to grab his water bottle and slump against the wall. ]
You're an excellent fighter, Fenris.
no subject
As are you. It makes a pleasant change, to be able to fight against someone with a little more skill and I usually find in the Fleet.
no subject
[ He takes a few more swallows of water, letting out a pleased grunt as he does. ]
High praise. And I'm glad to have someone to really test my skills against. I don't want to get rusty, because I'm sure if I did I would really end up needing them.
no subject
[Be proud, Kirk. He likes you enough to praise you. ]
Absolutely. Though Atroma do not send us into battle as the Initiative did, I do not trust them not to eventually thrust us into a situation where we would have to fight for our very lives.
no subject
[ Huzzah! Next level reached! ]
It might not be Atroma's fault. Not everything in space is content to live and let live. We might get attacked through no fault of Atroma's - or end up on a planet where we aren't welcome and get into trouble. But, you are right - I don't put it past Atroma to... manipulate a situation into a life or death fight either.
no subject
This is very true. Of course, it is just as likely everything here is under Atroma's command. I have seen it before, a group so powerful it had entire galaxies to its command.
no subject
Hmm, I've seen it too. And that's not an impossible thought with Atroma either, but it's just another on a very long list.
[ He sighed, frustrated. ]
To many ifs and possibilities with Atroma, and not enough actual facts. For now, all we can do is keep ourselves prepared.
[ He pushed up from the floor. ]
Speaking of - while we're recovering, I can show you some things about the guns on board. Keep my end of things.
no subject
[Fenris chuckles, shifting from his leaning position to stand straight.]
Thank you. I am sure my augment will help, but I am sure it cannot hurt to learn of them regardless. I do not want to rely on it.
no subject
I understand, and frankly it makes me feel better knowing I've given you a tutorial. I read up on what we should have that comes standard. Anything you've added on the side I'll have to look at in more depth to give you an idea of what it can do.
no subject
[Because he trusts Kirk enough to allow him to teach him. When Fenris first arrived in the Fleet, he refused point-blank to have anything to do with the guns. He HAD just come out of a warzone though, so there's that.]
no subject
That's good. And I'm eager to learn any fighting techniques you can show me. We can't always rely on the weapons, after all. And if you have any other questions about technology, you're always free to ask me, Fenris. I don't have any problem helping you if you need it.
[ He gave him his most sincere smile as they headed out of the room towards where Fenris kept the weapon stock. ]
Now that I think about it, it might not be a bad idea to hold a basic weapons lesson for the rest of the crew. Nothing advanced, just enough that if it's necessary, they can grab one and use it to defend themselves.
[ After all, as they had just discussed, anything could happen, and there could be a situation where neither he nor Fenris could be there. He knew Kara had powers, but even with Winn's little experiment, there was no guarantee she would have those either. ]
no subject
[He nods in response, kind of a smile. For Fenris, anyway. ]
That would be wise. I would not be surprised if Atroma removed us elsewhere then attacked the ship for the fun of it. The crew knowing how to defend themselves would be for the best. Prepare for anything.
no subject
That's all I can ask, really.
[ He's starting to get that, and takes it for what it is. ]
Precisely. And if we run on the premise this is a show of some sort, or if they're even watching us to see how we respond to various situations - well, it wouldn't serve it's purpose to have the ship's empty when attacked.
[ He looked to him. ]
Would you be willing to teach a class on the weapons too? Considering we all run kind of different schedules, it would be easier to make sure everyone got basic training.
no subject
I have never really been that willing to teach back home, but times are different now. I obviously cannot teach anyone my... specialist skills, but I can teach them how to swing a sword well enough.
no subject
If you don't want to, then by all means, don't - purely voluntary, this. I, for one, would be honored to learn from you, though I can't say to how good of a student I'll actually be.
[ He flashed him a grin. ]
no subject
I think I would like to teach. It helps to be prepared here.
no subject
[ He smiled and nodded. ]
Then I would be glad to have your help with this.
