[The video starts in on Hiro, who is reclined as far as the console chair will go. His feet are likely somewhere they should not be, holding him in the position. The comm is on top of his knees, recording him playing with an ostrich bobblehead.

[After a moment, he grins at the comm, and begins his little speech.]

Good--[a quick glance at the console]--afternoon, space cadets. Engineer Hiro Hamada, reporting for duty on the SS Bishop.

Gotta say, I'm not exactly thrilled to be here, but hey. I don't get a choice, right?

[He takes in a deep breath, looking around the deck of the ship. He lets his cheeks puff up with the air, slowly deflating as his lungs empty.]

I hope the crew here doesn't mind some remodeling. This place could use some work.

[hey man, he's the captain. Hiro's shoulder jump just slightly, and he turns around in his chair, snatching the comm off of his knees.]

Oh, good! I was about to go looking for any new people, since I heard the announcement...

[hi Hiro! there's a gothy-looking teenage girl peering at him through the screen, but she looks happy to see him! she's also... whispering, for some reason.]

The fastest way to get bored is to give yourself nothing to do! More people should try it. [Liking keeping busy, apparently.

Jeez he looks young. About the youngest she's seen here - and an Asiatic type, well, sometimes they look younger than they are.]

So tell me, what's your plan to start? I'm curious.

I'm not sure. I have to take inventory of what we've got to work with, figure out where the ship is lacking the most. Then I can start drawing up plans. I don't have my equipment, so I'm gonna have to improvise.

[thankfully she's gotten much better at noticing when other people start whispering because she's whispering... so she blinks, after a second, and shakes her head.]

Oh, you don't have to whisper too, I just kind of have this throat thing going on. This is as loud as I get.

[He looks so proud of himself already.]

I'm not really sure yet. I have to see what the ship has going on first, and figure out what I have to work with for making improvements.
