We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

He is. [She would even be tempted to say something more flattering than "decent." She looks amused by the bow and arrow comment though.]

Oh yeah? How did he do?

He didn't hit the target but -- honestly? Neither did I the first time I picked up a bow. But in the end it was all just for fun. We shot blunt-tips down on the Moon. All very safe.

That sounds good. I probably would have noticed by now if you'd sent him back full of holes. The bow isn't the easiest thing to start on. [Definitely not Kitty's weapon of choice.]

Like I said. Fun. I doubt he'll be switching careers. And it felt a little too braggy to just stand there and shoot great shots without at least letting him get his hands on the bow.

Hey, I'm all for fun. I was just agreeing. So, did you do anything ridiculous in front of him like shoot one arrow dead center and then shoot another that splits it right down the middle?

The Robin Hood shot? [ kate shakes her head. ] Thing is, that doesn't work so well with blunted tips. I told him about it, though. And I did shoot three at once as a suitable finale.

[ she's saving the fact that she can shoot five at once for a later revelation. ]

Okay, good point. But it would be extremely impressive if you could do that with a blunted tip somehow. I assume the three-at-once all hit the target to make it extra impressive?

In a tidy little line.

Okay, kind of have to give it to you for that then. Do you use trick arrows at home? Like not just pointy but explody or smokey? There was a girl back in the prison who seemed to have something like that going on.

The other Hawkeye loves them. He labels his trick arrows. It's a little sad. [ and kate likes to pretend as though she's a purist buuuuut. ] They have their time and place. They can be useful. Sometimes.

Wouldn't not labeling them be sadder and more dangerous?

Only when you learn that he can already tell the difference simply by the weight of them in his hand. It's busy-work.

Maybe he's imagining a scenario where someone has to hand him arrows? Teamwork?

Oh, it's happened. The problem is that it happened while he was re-routed on a trip to the corner store for tape for the aforementioned labels.

[That earns a laugh.] The sick irony of it all.
