We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

But who is this guy, anyway?

Winn. [It's a name. Really.] Winn Schott. [The puns write themselves.]

[You have to give Kurt a moment. With the glow on his face, it looks like he's just witnessed a divine revelation and been handed a shop full of free candy.

He's never felt happier.

Then, he takes another moment to make his first selection.]

I guess I was wrong. Sounds like a real Winner to me!

Should I sit back and let you go at it for awhile? I feel like there are going to be a lot of these.

I might take you up on that offer. I should at least take a Schott at it.

Are you still wondering why I didn't tell you who it was sooner? Because I will refer you back to this. [Pointing at you, Kurt. Just you.]

I don't know what you're talking about! You should have treasured this chance! To... to give me a new winn-dow of opportunity!

You might be even more relentless than my Kurt. [Which they haven't really talked about, have they?]

Your Kurt? [He tentatively inquires. That reminds him of something he's been unsure about... The other Kurt did answer to Darkholme, after all, and that was the name Kitty used for him. Could it be...?]

He's from my world. You didn't know? You met, right? [And are maybe more aware of how different she finds him from what she's always known.]

We met alright! But... I'm just making the connection right now.

So... so that's him!

So, how are you? I know meeting yourself can be...a thing. [She had a lot of feelings about meeting her own double.]

It's... it's a thing alright. ...Like looking into a really weird mirror.

But, it's kind of cool, too? I don't know how to describe it. But... I don't feel down about it or anything.

[Or at least, not about that newcomer.]

Good. I mean, that's probably about as good as it gets with something like that. [Probably better than her reaction to his Kitty.] Kurt's a good guy. We've always been close. I mean...I was kind of a mess when I first joined up so I wasn't exactly instantly cool with him, but it passed. [Not proud of that, but they all scared her except Piotr who rescued her at first.]

Well... That's good. [He smiles lightly and scratches at his head a little.] I'm glad you get along with your fuzzy man. ...And that he's a good guy. I guess some things are right in more than one universe.

We definitely have to keep a few things going the right way. [It's too few really, but they did what they could.

After a moment she switches the feed to private.]

What about things that aren't going right? Are you...okay? Kurt isn't the only new arrival we've had. [And she's not that worried about Charles or Hank for the moment.]

...

[He pauses for a moment.]

...There's been a lot to wrap my head around.

[And he looks down uncertainly, feeling all of those overwhelming mix of feelings that come with his mother. Mystique.]

I'm... [He shakes his head.] I don't know what to feel.

Rogue told me a little bit about her and I talked to her. She sounds different than the Mystique I know. [We can all admit we're talking about Mystique, right?]

[It's allowed!]

...You did, huh? [Kurt knows that Rogue's opinions are definitely more volatile than his own, and he can't blame her - or rather, he doesn't anymore. But he can't help but be curious. It nags at him.]

How different?

The woman was tough, but she was good to her son and the girl she took in. At least she did he best by them and it was better than what Rogue told me.

It's not hard to guess who those two people could be. And it gives him pause for a moment, since it almost sounds like something from a dream. He and Rogue really being like siblings, with a mother too good to be real...

He blinks and, after a mooment, he softly nods.]

...Sounds like it must have been nice. Definitely sounds better.

[There were certain drawbacks with the way society was crumbling, but if everything is going to be hard it just makes family that much more important. Kitty might have even had moments of envy with her Kurt since he still had a mother. Her expression softens.] The people who raised you were good to you, right? [Because she will cross dimensions and kick their asses if not.]

[He pauses for a moment before he glances at her and smiles softly.]

They're the best. I still visit every Christmas... My mom can make a fruitcake that will knock your socks off!

My socks surrender and will take your word for it. [She smiles softly at him.]

I'm glad to hear it though. [Not about the fruitcake. About the good parents. They're... incredibly important. You don't always realize how much until you don't have them anymore.]
