We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

[ if it helps any, he wasn't even the one to tell kara. it's also been kind of hard to know what to tell because they've been so weirdly undefined until recently. ]

I'm seeing Kitty.

I only met this Kitty here in the fleet -- and pretty much never met the one back home. [ surprise! they're kinda-universe-mates-sorta. ] It's one of those alternate dimension chestnuts I was telling you about.

But she's someone you've heard of in your universe. Is she...one of the Avengers?

[ badass superhero in one world, badass superhero in all worlds, right! ]

X-Men. At least, last I heard. These rosters have a way of being mighty fluid, though. [ ... ] Mostly the same idea, though.

[ so the x-men are a constant. he sure hopes it's the only one, and that at least the kitty of kate's world - gets to have a happier life. ]

How many groups are there?

I...I don't know, honestly. That's probably well above my non-existence security clearance. But just from experience I know of at least ten. Like I said, there are a lot of us kicking around the world.

What you need is a very dedicated fanboy to clear things up.

[ if he were from her world, he could probably recite the member list of each of them in his sleep. ]

If Billy and Teddy were here, they could do that. Dedicated fans for sure.

I'm getting the feeling I'd like Billy and Teddy.

I can't lie. The similarities have already struck me.

[ -- and that's (at first) why she liked talking with winn so much. a bit of nostalgia. ]

[ he knows nothing about these people - except for the fact that they're fanboys, and probably nerds, but - ]

I'm gonna take that as a compliment.

[ they're friends, right? so he's probably reminding her of people she likes! ]

One of the highest I could give, Winn. They're kinda my best friends.

[ aww, that's kind of touching. superheros and nerds, a combination that never fails. ]

So what are they like, other than totally awesome and great judges of character?

Remember the story I told you? About my sister's wedding? Well -- Billy and Teddy where two of the three guys who showed up to try and save the day. [ fondly, ] They've gotten a lot better at it since then.

[ man, she wants to talk to him about everything kara's shared with her -- about supergirl, and about what she knows about winn's role in all of it. but the public network probably isn't the best bet. so kate bides her time. ]

[ they're just gonna have to meet again, no choice! aww, nerdy superheroes? that's his secret dream aspiration. ]

You whipped 'em into shape?

And convinced them to dump their lame-o old codenames. [ and then: ] But I guess I probably shouldn't be airing their spandex laundry all over the fleet's network.

Wanna come visit the Blameless?

...yeah - yeah! Kitty's coming over now, but I could drop by after, if you're still free.

[ it's always such an uplifting good time talking to kate, it's just what he needs ]

Nah. Don't fret it, Winn. We can catch up at the party, okay?

Yeah, absolutely. [ he nods ]

I'll save you a dance if you'll -- want one. And I'll definitely come next time.

[ having to turn down plans because he's already got plans is kind of a whole new world for him -- he's used to being the one turned down! ...he may be feeling a little bad about having to say no. and by may, he means definitely. ]

[ kate is (at least) cool with it. perhaps because it comes with postponing an inenviable task -- broaching the truth with winn.

so, cheerily: ] You'd better save me a dance.

To be safe, I'll even save you two.

[ it's not by the spaceship or the toxic moon that he knows he's in a parallel dimension: it's by the amount of beautiful women who want to dance with him. that amount being anything other than 0 means he's definitely not in kansas anymore. ]
