We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

[He is actually the jealous type. Or at least the insecure type and she hasn't given him a lot to feel secure about yet.] He already knows I have others on my dance card. Just so happens I saved a spot for you. [Not that there is an actual card or list of any kind.]

And I would never presume to set up the Remy LeBeau. Though I actually knew mine as something of a monogamist.

[Kitty's first answer instantly got ignored for the second one, Remy's brows going up at that reveal and his brain instantly going to, well, his wife...] That so?

Should I warn you it doesn't have a happy ending or have you figured out my world didn't have any of those?

[Yeahhh, if it was Bella then Remy didn't expect so.] Can't say 'm surprised. [But still, ugh that someone else here knew about her, about his relationship with her. Then again, he had others here in the past who knew of him as a tv character or comic character so Remy could only assume there would be some out there that knew of his history, or a version of it. As much as he hated the idea.]

[Kitty doesn't know anything about Bella if there was even a Bella to know about. Not that she routinely mentions people she doesn't know about.] Then you've been paying attention.

I couldn't really bring myself to pick sides in it, but I did think you two were good together.

[Wait, what? Sides?] Ya talkin'... Thieves or Rippers? [Remy honestly didn't think those two sides would be important in a fight that revolved around mutant powers, despite the Guilds having a few mutants in them here and there.] They were involved in all of this?

No. I was talking love triangle, but where I was friends with all the sides. You hadn't been with the thieves guild in awhile. Long before I knew you.

[Somewhere in the back of his mind Remy registered both her knowledge of the Guild and the fact it was still around in her world. But for the most his brain was trying to work through this 'love triangle'.] Wait, love triangle with who?

It's a couple I've already mentioned to you. Hint, not the one I was in.

[Remy's look turned back to one of confusion, thinking back to previous talks they had since her arrival and trying to bring up said mentioned couples. Her and Piotr's stood out because of his friendship with the man from his world, yet he didn't really remember her talking about any others. Well, he had heard when she had told Rogue abou-

Wait. What?

Opening his mouth a few times, trying to get words out, then seeming to either reconsider or just unable to get any out, he eventually managed.] Ya mean, Rogue, Mag's, 'nd... [Him? Really?]

Surprise? [It certainly seems to be one. She'd really felt for him. It was hard to compete with someone who could touch her though. She can't even imagine what that must have meant to Rogue at the time.]

[That, that really didn't register, not fully yet, Remy trying to place the pieces in his mind but it was like a child doing a jigsaw, trying to hammer in pieces to make a picture despite them not fitting.]

'm 'ssumin' we be goin' after Rogue, not both of us after Mags. [That little dose of humor acting as just a way to fill the space, to reply, it mostly automatic as Remy just... tried to... he wasn't sure.

Rogue? Really? Well, she was a great friend, one of the best friends he's had for years but... really?]

[That gets a laugh.] I was going to joke that you were going for him, but then you seemed kind of off balance and I figured I shouldn't be the one to tip you over.

You did go on to date Lily Cheney afterward. I don't know if you know her or not now?

Ahh, [Remy had raised a hand to scrub his palm over his face as he talked.] Yeah, no, still 'ppreciated the joke though, petite. [This was a lot of information, and Remy suddenly felt a little bad for his reaction to Rogue when they had found out about her and Mags being together in Kitty's world.]

'nd no, donno a fille but that name, or don't remember one with that name.

[There was a little bit of a pause before he seemed to recover enough to keep joking.] So I guess I lost out, hein?

We all kind of did. You left the X-Men after that. Couldn't really blame you, but you were missed. [It was a rough situation.]

[She changes the feed to private which is something she probably should have done a long time ago.] Erik had found a way of using his power to make it possible to touch her. I just thinking maybe there was no competing with that. [It may be a strange thought wanting to comfort him when he's not the man who ever felt that way for her.]

[Oh, that, that hit a little harder than Remy imagined it would. Then again, this wasn't a conversation he ever imagined he would be having. It wasn't about it being in that kind of relationship with Rogue, or who else had been involved, but at the thought that he hadn't been enough.

Again. Just like with Belladonna.

It was like hearing a reflection of his own life, just with different players. Being rejected for something he couldn't provide and then running. The fact it happened to an alternative version of himself didn't lessen the blow at all. It stuck against the side of his ribs, like he had been stabbed]

I see. [His voice was very controlled once he answered, restrained to try and keep any real emotion leaking out.]

[His tone is fine, but the brevity and delay getting there tell her more.] Remy... [She's not exactly sure how he's feeling or what to say. Does he have feelings for Rogue? Is it something else?] I'm sorry. I shouldn't have just thrown that at you. I think my self-imposed match making powers went to my head.

[Hearing that tone in her voice, that concern, Remy managed a smile as his spirits lifted a little, even if it was more from her worry distracting him a bit from his own ache.] Ah petite, don't ya fret, ain't nothin' for ya to worry 'bout, just some stuff goin' through this Cajun's head.

'nd I think ya doin' a mighty fine role of match maker so far. worse case 'nd something goes bad, just say people didn't read the fine print 'nd the terms 'nd conditions before they spoke to ya.

You know if you ever want to share the stuff going through your head I can try to be less reckless with it.

[No, he wouldn't, but he couldn't with anyone, not really. And certainly not about this. Opening up too much left you open for attack, got a chance for people to worm in and-

That was the type of thinking he used when he first showed up in Luceti, before Rogue and Jean and others started to beat it out of him. It was so easy to fall back to it, a sort of comfort or hiding himself away.

No, there had to be a certain balance, to not push others away but also not to get himself torn apart again.] 'ppreciate it cherie. [It wasn't a no, but it wasn't a yes either.] Plus ya may regret that offer of ya's once ya know what be in here. [He twisting it around into a joke at the last moment.]

[She smiles lightly.] Oh, just try to compare skeletons in your closet and ghosts haunting you with me. I can take a lot. [She won't push too much, but she won't run away either.]

[And that was the issue. This wasn't big or life threatening or world ending, it didn't end up with people dead or injured, family or friends lost. It was a state of mind, one that Remy tried to ignore even existed. Something that had been lingering since he was abandoned at birth. It would be so much easier to talk about those he had lost, those Guild members killed in the war against the Assassins, of missions gone bad and injuries gained, of being thrown into an all out battle during his time in Luceti and having to kill to survive.

That was all easier to deal with than what he kept locked away in his mind.]

Careful, ya phrase it like that 'nd goin' to make it sound like some sort of game show to add onto this place. Can even make up a cheesy jingle, maybe one of those spinnin' boards to figure out prizes, just need to find some buzzers for people to use.

[She really needs a mutation for reading bracket comments. If she did so many more people would be getting hugs. She can relate to feeling abandoned. Obviously, her parents had no choice in leaving her what with the murder and all. But the last man to break her heart? That was his choice even if there were unavoidable factors playing into it.] See, now that sounds like a show worth watching. Who tunes in to see people deliver gumballs? [But seriously though, what was that?]

Oh yeah, 'nd what prizes we get out of barin' our souls? Cash prizes don't seem quite 'nough for all that, 'nd got not place to store a brand new car, though I wouldn't turn down the chance if it means gettin' a bike. Sure I could fit that 'nto the storage area somewhere in the ship.

A bike does seem more worthwhile than a bunch of gum.

But the payment part is creepy. I don't know exactly how much everyone else makes, but I've got...a lot of money now. [What with the stabbing and the kissing and the yelling at Hank and tearful reunions.]
