We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

Winn? ...I want to kiss you on your birthday. [She doesn't know what the future will hold for them, but she doesn't need to be withholding so much from him to protect herself. That's just going to hurt them both, isn't it? She doesn't want to miss the present to protect against an unseen future. She shifts back so she can kiss him right now too.]

[ he kisses back. when they break apart, he's smiling. ]

I want that too. But then I pretty much always want to kiss you.

I like that feeling. Go with that. [Smiling back at him before leaning in again.]

[ he offers a little salute before leaning in and kissing her ]

[Her hand comes up to play gently in his hair. The kiss isn't so much full of passion as it is tenderness. The same with her touch right now. The nature of coming off the aftermath of some emotional vulnerability.]

[ he loves the passionate kisses, but the tender ones resonate with the insecure part of him, which he needs - especially considering the subject they just covered. he keeps it sweet, allowing her to dictate the terms - his own quiet way to try and reassure her again that he's not going to pressure her into anything she's not ready for. ]

[She's smiling when they pull away again and she doesn't stop playing with his hair. That's just a thing she's always liked doing.]

Okay. Tell me your age, but not because I care. I just guess I should know more about you since I didn't even know your full name before Hank. [She does feel like she knows important things though. Still, she's interested in him. And this is part of that.]

[ he laughs ]

Yeah, that was a sitcom moment - [ seeing each other all the time, getting serious, but not knowing each other's names - ]

I'm - 29. [ he feels so old just saying it. ]

It really was, right? [Why are they so naturally good at being in a reality show? They are going to have embarrassingly large amounts of money.]

That's about what I would have guessed. [She probably would have said 26 or 27, but it's still closeish and she doesn't want him to think it's too old. She also doesn't want to say Reid was 32 at least after he came back with new memories to make him feel better because mentioning Reid doesn't feel like a path to making him feel better ever.] And you were from National City originally?

[ they're going to end up winning this thing, aren't they.

that's a good instinct there, kitty. ]

Yeah, yeah I tend to just -- stay put. [ not big on the making changes over here. ] Unless - space reality shows happen.

[And getting sent home? Let's hope not.]

[There's a soft laugh.] Sure, unless those happen. I was in Seattle last. Well, last I was in an undersea prison and technically I was in New York very last at home, but for a longer stretch it was near Seattle.

Um, my parents names were Carmen and Terry. And if you're thinking that means Dad was Terry you'd be wrong. [She knows parents aren't a good subject with him, but hers are important to her so she hopes this much is okay.]

[ he would never keep her from talking about her parents. just because his family is terrible doesn't mean he can't be happy that someone else's wasn't.

he smiles at that, just happy that she's opening up to him like that. ]

What did they do?

Dad was in money management and Mom was a nurse in a children's ward. [She appreciates how easy he is to talk to.] I think for awhile they felt like their full time job was taking me to before and after school dance lessons or rehearsals though.

You wanted to be a pro?

[ he's getting a mental image of a young kitty in a tutu and it's too adorable for words ]

I did. I also wanted to be the youngest tech mogul. Ballet and computers. It's a thing. [And these weren't outlandish. She had the skills where it could have happened. Well, she may have had to pick one just for time's sake.]

Saving the world from cyber-terrorists in between acts - I can see it.

Right? [She laughs a little.] It's kind of hard for me to imagine it now, but I was a really determined kid.

And you get to use tech and help save the world. [Sliding a hand up his arm, lazily touching him.

You should get in my head, I can picture it perfectly, full HD.

[ smiling at the touch. ]

I get to use tech and help Kara when she needs to be sneaky.

[ truth is, with alex and the deo - she doesn't really need him. unless she's trying to hack the deo. which. he still can't quite believe he did. ] Mostly, I use tech to solve basic big office network problems. [ he's so under-used. ]

What do you want to be doing with it? [Because she kind of gets the feeling that's not it. At least not the second part.] Or with anything. Maybe you want to be a fashion designer slash IT specialist. I'm not here to judge.

No, the - costume thing is definitely more of a hobby.

[ the fashion business is way too stressful for him and making serious clothes isn't really what he loves about sewing - it's the superhero costumes, and there aren't enough of those back home to turn it into a business. ]

I donno -- save the world from cyber-terrorists? [ he laughs and shrugs. he's got the skills, he knows he does, but it's like he said...he tends to just stay put. ] I like my job, mostly. But it'd be cool to make more of a difference. [ he wants to be a better man, to follow kara's example - do something good with his life, prove that his choices couldn't be more different than his dad's. ]

[It could be a business here.]

I can understand that. A lot. But also, something you should know, I have no doubt you are making a difference. [She leans in to kiss him softly. He makes a difference to her.]

[ she's just so casually sweet to him - he's not really sure how to handle it. he returns the kiss. ]

Probably couldn't pull it off while dancing ballet, though.

[ and that's probably for the best, he's already feeling like he's losing any shred of masculinity whenever he's not kissing kitty. ]

We can't all be perfect. [Do you hear that sound, Winn? That's the sound of a shoe hitting the floor. There's another sound just like it a moment later. And then a socks-only Kitty scoots back and turns to lay down on his bed before gesturing for him to join her.]

[ he kicks off his own shoes and is quick to comply, lying next to her, a hand gently tangling in her hair, thumb caressing her cheek. ]

Takes all of the fun outta it for those who are.

[ he's not sure he's ever smiled this much around anyone. he leans in to continue that kiss. ]

[She's still gentle in her kissing. It's not timid, but for someone who chose to sprawl out on his bed it doesn't seem especially leading either. She's just enjoying it for what it is. She does shift her body a little closer and hooks an arm around to rub his back.]
