We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

It's Dorothy! Nice to meet you, Kitty. Is it short for anything or do you just like cats?

Katherine, but no one actually calls me that. [She does get Kitten and Kätzchen occasionally and once upon a time, Katya.] Nice to meet you too, Dorothy. [She's trying hard not to ask how old the girl is. She figures the answer is "not old enough to be abducted into a reality show" regardless. And she has never liked it when people made a big deal over her own age.] I like cats just fine though. Probably more of a dog person.

Well, I suppose dogs are all right. [But she looks pleased anyway, for reasons she can't really share. They have the same name.]

I always thought if I were a Katherine, I'd be a Katie. [Kitty is a little too obvious for her, though she likes it anyway.] Perhaps I should change my name.

Well, I'm just a little girl. I have a lot of free time! Nobody lets me do anything interesting.

Watching out for, or never letting me have any fun. I'm sure it's one of the two.

All the kinds of fun! I haven't even found all the ways you can have fun yet, so I have to keep exploring. And exploring! People won't let me explore places.

[Such worriers!] Places like the moon? It's not the safest place for anyone. [Not that it's stopped Kitty of course.]

It's safe enough if you know how to be nice to it. [That being said, she actually doesn't like it that much. She got sick the first time she went out. But that doesn't mean she should be frowned at!] They didn't let me explore the ice planet on my own either. Very insistent on mittens.

Um... I think I lost count. Less than a year, though! I haven't had a birthday yet! At least, I don't think I have.

Gets a little tricky if you don't come in on the same date it was back home, doesn't it? You have to decide if your birthday is the date it's always been or the day that falls 365 days after the last one. [And then math is involved and who has time for that?]

I like my birth date! I think I'll keep it. My mum always likes to pretend she's younger than she really is, so if I lose a few months it doesn't really matter, does it?
