Masquerade Mingle

[The night has finally come--the Gravity Rush is nearly upon us! What normally serves as a large performance hall has been gutted, emptied of its boring furniture and rigged up into a fantastical mismatch of technology and old culture. No matter where you go tonight, you're encouraged to move around, dance, play games, whatever helps you sleep in late tomorrow morning.

If you aren't one for scurrying around a ballroom all night, there's always plenty of people-watching to do. After all, so many people are wearing extravagant costumes and elaborate masks. How can you even tell who is who? Get lost in a crowd of sequins, chatter with a sun and a moon, or try to beat the guy in the monster-mask at a game of cards. Meet your friends or make some new ones--this masquerade party has begun!]

[For the Vytal Festival's ball, Yang did not have quite as much of an opportunity to relax and enjoy it, as she had helped to set up and run the dance. So, naturally, she was very happy about having the opportunity to actually fully enjoy a ball like this, without needing to worry about anything. Her white dress was likely a bit shorter than most's, but that made it perfect for dancing. And that is just what she's doing, even accepting a few offers from strangers. Her mask does little to hide her identity, but that doesn't seem to concern her. In fact, it's likely purposely so that she can be recognized, as she does occasionally stop to take a breather, glancing around the ball as she does, apparently looking for familiar faces.]

[If you feel up for a dance, feel free to give her an offer. Otherwise, feel free to catch her while she's taking a break for some conversation. She's happy to talk with everyone.]

[Furiosa is in a white dress as well, though it's not quite as short as Yang's. She wears a beaded wire mask of a fox, though with her shaved head and lack of a left arm past the elbow makes her fairly recognizable to those who knows her.

As someone who's never really danced herself, Furiosa isn't in the habit of asking people to share the floor, but it's hard not to notice when someone is so committed to the dance floor as Yang is.]

You really know what you're doing out there.

[Yang turns, that voice sounding really familiar. Yang looks the woman over for a second, but then it clicks as she recognizes Furiosa behind that mask. She smiles broadly, happy to receive a compliment about her dancing skills.]

Hehe, I don't know about that, but it's all about having fun right? That's what these kinds of parties are for!

That's what I'm finding out; you could say this is a new experience for me.

I don't have to ask you if you've done this before.

For a completely new experience, you look pretty cool and comfortable. That dress looks really good on you, by the way.

[Yang giggles a little at the compliment.]

I wouldn't say I've been to a whole lot of dances like this, but yeah, I've been to a few. Even helped organize one back home.

I had some help, I wouldn't have thought to get this on my own. [But she smiles. It's really not so bad. Maybe not her preferred attire - she couldn't wait to get back into pants - but it wasn't awful.]

Got any tips for a newcomer?

[Yang thinks on it for a moment, as she's never really thought about giving advice about how to properly "party" exactly. Still, it doesn't take her long before a warm, wide smile spreads on her face.]

Just relax and enjoy yourself. No one gets dressed up like this everyday, so it's important to enjoy the moment while it lasts, you know?

[Furiosa nods, she has been learning to relax here, even if it doesn't come naturally and there's always a certain level of alterness going on.]

I can see why people don't wear such things very much; it's not too practical.

[After that message from Yang, Blake wasn't exactly sure what to do. A masquerade... Well, masks aren't exactly her idea of a good time. But on the other hand... Yang was asking her for a dance. She'd have to be crazy to refuse.

But she doesn't feel much like checking in normally. So instead, she just sneaks through, melting out of the shadows behind Yang, dressed fancy with a mask she probably just swiped from the table when no one was looking. (They were just giving the masks away, so it's not like it's stealing.)]

... Hello, Yang.

[Yang stops what she's doing when she hears Blake's voice. She turns, excited that she actually came. In one motion, she turns towards her and throws her arms around her in a warm embrace.]

Blake! I'm so happy you made it!

[She quickly realizes how this must look, and she separates herself from her partner, looking a little embarrassed with herself. Once she's pulled herself apart from Blake though, she's able to get a good look at what she's wearing. It definitely pauses her brain for a second, as Blake looks absolutely stunning in that dress. Yang quickly regains her cool, however, trying to stay cool and confident like always.]

You- you look great. Black always was your color, hehe.

I figured I couldn't miss this.

[Oh, god, between the compliments and the hug, Blake is already red.]

Thank you. You do, too, but you always do.

[... wait, did she just say that out loud. oh, god, did the hug and their earlier talk just fry her brain or something.

INTERNAL SCREAMING.]

[Yang blinks for a moment, a little thrown by that compliment, and her face grows noticeably redder. However, she recovers soon enough, as that familiar calm, confident smile reappears on her face. She extends her hand out to Blake.]

Well, since you came, I believe I promised you a dance.

[Her mouth twitches into a small smile, and she takes her hand.]

Only one?

[She may hate what the White Fang has become, and what they do. And what she did with her time in them, honestly. But there is one thing that they were absolutely right on- It is a lot easier to be braver when you're wearing a mask.]
