Masquerade Mingle

[The night has finally come--the Gravity Rush is nearly upon us! What normally serves as a large performance hall has been gutted, emptied of its boring furniture and rigged up into a fantastical mismatch of technology and old culture. No matter where you go tonight, you're encouraged to move around, dance, play games, whatever helps you sleep in late tomorrow morning.

If you aren't one for scurrying around a ballroom all night, there's always plenty of people-watching to do. After all, so many people are wearing extravagant costumes and elaborate masks. How can you even tell who is who? Get lost in a crowd of sequins, chatter with a sun and a moon, or try to beat the guy in the monster-mask at a game of cards. Meet your friends or make some new ones--this masquerade party has begun!]

It sounds beautiful... I really would like to see that. I'll call that an incentive to finish the spell as soon as I can, then.

Good. I haven't been back there properly for years. It'd be nice to have a friend to go with.

It's hard to miss something I never really knew. I left there to go to the Jedi Temple when I was three. I only have memories of it because I went back there about four years ago for a mission.

Three? You guys start that Jedi stuff young.

Of course! You have to. Or-- at least in the main school of thought, anyway. [Ahsoka isn't sure how much she agrees with it anymore, but it's also what she grew up with, so her opinions on the matter are now upsettingly conflicted.]

It's a hard lifestyle, and it's only made harder if you remember your birth family. Jedi are supposed to give up their attachments-- that includes the desire to put family before duty, or bias towards one planet or species over another.

That...

[On one hand, that sounds terrible. Kids being removed from their parents without any say, to grow up in a lifestyle they didn't know? It sounds, frankly, evil.

But Nightingale remembers her own parents. She would definitely have been better off without them. But most parents aren't that way, right? If Yura had been separated from her parents, even as a child, all three of them would have been devastated...

The more she learns of the Jedi, the less she likes them. But this isn't the place or time for that conversation. So, being the master of subtlety that she is...]

Well, if you're going to show me your home, I'll have to show you Delwight eventually.

I'd love to see it. What's it like?

It's great. It's probably the biggest city in the world- There's a ton of different people. Humans, elves, and the Beast Tribes all live there, and even a few merfolk. There's powerful wards all around the city to keep monsters out, so it's probably the safest place in the world, too. Lots of tall skyscrapers, some nice parks, there's always lights... It's all about the people there.
