Masquerade Mingle

[The night has finally come--the Gravity Rush is nearly upon us! What normally serves as a large performance hall has been gutted, emptied of its boring furniture and rigged up into a fantastical mismatch of technology and old culture. No matter where you go tonight, you're encouraged to move around, dance, play games, whatever helps you sleep in late tomorrow morning.

If you aren't one for scurrying around a ballroom all night, there's always plenty of people-watching to do. After all, so many people are wearing extravagant costumes and elaborate masks. How can you even tell who is who? Get lost in a crowd of sequins, chatter with a sun and a moon, or try to beat the guy in the monster-mask at a game of cards. Meet your friends or make some new ones--this masquerade party has begun!]

[Laura turns more at the smell then the sound, so familiar yet...always different. She could see the edges of a resemblance there, just so much younger than she knew him.]

[All nightcrawler's god that name for her sorry.]

[It's okay, he probably thinks it's a cooler nickname than Elf. But he is confused just because it's a new nickname, and it's being mentioned by someone he's never met as if she knows him.]

Um... Hey! [He waves meekly at her.] I'm not... that tricky, am I? [Or maybe it's a folklore thing. Kurt can see that. He understands that his looks can be very... folklorey.]

You will be.

[She shifts faintly, realizing this probably makes no sense.]

You are Nightcrawler, yes?

[He blinks uncertainly, but he nods at the mention of his name.]

Yep! That's me! One Nightcrawler, at your service! [Pause.]

You... know me?

There is...a different version of you here.

[A beat.]

And I know an older one as well, back home.

[Poor Kurt.]

I have met that other me...

[He scratches at his head.]

So there's a third fuzzy man in the mix. [Well, that would match up with what Wolverine and Storm said.] You know, we're going to need a chart to keep track of all of this!

[He looks towards her with a light smile.]

So does that make you a friend of the Kurts?

[That actually made her smile faintly. But she wasn't going to tell him anything about the other him, the one she knew, because...well.]

I know him. We have fought together before.

On the same side, I'm hoping! [A weak laugh.]

Yes. [A small nod.]

I was a member of the X-men.

[Well. X-Force. Close enough.]

Whoa! For real... Well, welcome to the club!

Um, I'm sorry if I'm not like the Nightcrawler you remember. But... It's good to meet you! Miss...?

Laura Kinney.

[She offered him a polite nod of her head.]

Laura, huh? Got it!

And... thanks. I'm glad to hear it! I'll just try to be the best Kurt that I can be.

[Well he had an optimism that was either endearing or annoying, Laura wasn't certain.]

[Probably both. It's all part of his charm.]

Yeah! I think. ...Does half a year count as long?

[Laura this is a dance stop being boring.]

Um... Well... [Now he throws his arms up in a helpless shrug.] I've got nothing!

Info gathering - it's not my strongest suit! But we're at a party, anyway. Now that's my strong suit!

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

[The trickster was a teenage dork, apparently.]

Aw, so partying isn't your mutant ability? But I'm sure there's got to be some way you can have fun here!

Logan's powers? [He raises an eyebrow. Now that's unusual and specific.] Like the whole... claw thingy?

I suppose it will get better when I dance.

[She was self-aware enough to know she liked doing that, at least.]

Yes. And the senses and healing factor.

Totally! And luckily enough, you're talking with one of the funnest dancers around!

[He declares that proudly, but then he raises an eyebrow at all of the startling similarities.]

Whoa! That... really does match up with pretty much the whole package!

'Funnest'? [She was pretty sure that wasn't a word.]

We are related. I inherited his powers.

Um... Yeah! I didn't stutter! [Accept this made-up word!!

But he looks only more stunned at her revelation.]

Related?! I... I didn't know he had a daughter! [It's going out on a branch to assume that, but that's the only way he thinks she could mean 'inherited'.]

It is more complicated than that.

[And frustrating.]
