I knew I should have looked up 'reality shows' a few months back.

[ The man who appears on the screen is currently looking at what seems to be a little notepad before adding the word 'space' next to the words 'reality tv'. Really, he could have done this space setting if it included an inter-galactic war or helping planets in peril.

But in all honesty, Steve Rogers: entertainer has never been his career choice and it's not his forte, either. At least now the whole thing doesn't include singing and girls in scandalously short skirts. ]

My name is Steve Rogers, currently aboard the SS Pathstone. I've done a little bit of reading while aboard the Marsiva. I understand there are those who are trying to help the people on the moon we're visiting, if there is anything you need, I'd do whatever I can do to help.

[ you might catch a glimmer of red and blue and silver just behind him. A wink as the light hits metal ]

The same goes for going home. I imagine people have already looked into ways for us to leave this place. No one should be taken anywhere against their will. I'd like to hear about the information you have managed to collect and I'll do everything I can to make sure everyone will be able to go home safely.

[ you all get a little smile. he's so awkward at these things, can you tell by now. ]

I heard I've missed quite a party.

No, not really. It's somewhere on my list of things I should be catching up on but.

It's a pretty long list.

[ He still has to try s'mores. ]

[he can't help but grin a little]

I understand that. I've been trying to catch up on certain things, too.

[Steve, please love yourself and try s'mores]

Ah - I'd be happy to help, then. Whenever's fine with me, I'm not doing anything I can't put aside to talk.

[a pause, and then he remembers he's forgetting his manners] Oh - er, I'm Hank McCoy. It's nice to meet you, Steve. Circumstances aside and all.

It's good to meet you, Hank.

[ he'll remember the name. Steve might be unfortunate with popular culture references and dancing but he was always good with people if they gave him a chance. It used to be a little harder before the serum and in a way, it's not a walk through the park now, either. ]

I'll come and see you. What ship have you been assigned?

[Steve already gets points for not even flinching at his appearance. Admittedly, aside from people he knew well enough, this was the first time using the video feed with someone he was just meeting]

That's fine - I'm on the Blameless.

[ well after ultron, the green hulk and the aliens he learned one thing - if someone isn't trying to kill you, they can look like whatever they want. he had definitely seen weirder. ]

I'm on my way. I should be there shortly.

[ and, after a moment ]

Thank you. For meeting me like this.

[wow, he wastes no time. Hank looks surprised for a moment before he smiles]

You're welcome, but there's no need to thank me. I should be thanking you for coming here, really.

[he'll even leave the lab to wait for Steve by shuttles]

[ well. the way he figures it, there is no time to waste. any moment wasted is a moment he could spend catching up on this world. he won't be able to help before he understands what they're up against, after all.

you'll get used to the captain america thing, hank.

he'll climb off the shuttle, strapping the shield to his back before making his way towards him and offering a hand ]

Hank, nice to see you.

[beathach]

[lbr at this point, someone could tell him Steve's a superhero and he wouldn't be surprised, what with his desire to help in any way he can.

Of course, the shield's a big tip off, too.

Hank takes the offered hand and shakes it, his grip firm but careful]

You too, Steve. Uh - welcome to the Blameless. [he gestures behind him] We can speak in my lab, if you like. [it's as private as it gets here]

[uprightness]

You're a scientist?

[ he reminds him a little of bruce, in a way. clever and efficient as he seems. steve follows him through the ship, looking around him as they walk. it's a fine vessel, much like the others. it's hard to believe the sole reason of the setting is for entertainment. ]

What are you working on?

[ asked as they reach the lab ]

[beathach]

Mm, I am. Back home I specialized in genetics and biochemistry.

[he opens the door to the lab, allowing Steve to go in first. It's very lived-in, notes scattered here and there, something running in the far corner. In the main work area, there's a plate of protein gel with a few test tubes near it, some already containing something that looks similar]

Right now? I'm working on both trying to make ice cream, and finishing up something I take for my - uh, appearance.

[uprightness]

You can alter it?

[ he takes a seat, lowers his shield to the ground. he has to smile, however and add - ]

I have to admit, ice cream doesn't sound bad at all.

[beathach]

[he smiles a little wryly] I can temporarily suppress what causes me to look like this. It's a mutation - I don't suppose you're familiar with mutants, are you?

[he clears his notes to the side so he can hop up and sit on the counter] Right? No one can say no to ice cream.

[uprightness]

Depends on what you mean by mutants. There are some people in my world with powers and - altered appearance. My team has a Green Hulk.

[ smile and a firm nod. don't worry, Hank, he got this. ]

I'd like an update on the ice cream situation once you succeed.

[beathach]

[he doesn't even bother to hide the interest on his face] That would explain why you didn't bat an eye. [he huffs out an amused noise] Mutants are - people with powers, basically. Humans who carry a certain gene.

[he forces something of a serious expression and only fails a little]

As soon as I get approval from my official taste testers, I'll let you know.

[uprightness]

I have - a lot of experience with those. I never heard the term 'mutants' but I know enough about powers.

[ once more, he thinks this one would have gotten along quite well with bruce. those moments will happen very often, he suspects. ]

I admit the choice of food here is interesting.

[ HE HAD SEEN WORSE but still. ]

[beathach]

I know there's some people who have powers, but wouldn't be considered mutants. [he nods] There's a number of us from those kinds of worlds - some of them - don't cross over, exactly, but don't be surprised if someone recognizes someone you know. [a pause, and he tilts his head] Or you.

[he huffs at the mention of the food, though]

"Interesting" is the polite way to put it, though the cooks do amazing things with what they have.

[uprightness]

That will never not be confusing.

[ he really misses the good old days when he knew only of one world and not many, especially not many who somehow overlap each other. ]

I'm sure that either way, I've had worse.

[ war food in the 40s and all. ]

[beathach]

I wish I could say it starts making sense after a while, but - [he shrugs a shoulder] I'm still not used to it. I don't think I ever will be.

And - yeah, it isn't bad, but - you can't help but make the comparisons.

But - er, I'm side-tracking you with food. What sort of information were you looking for?

[uprightness]

Neither do I.

[ especially as his life seems to go in the same pattern, once he thinks he's boarding on catching up there are aliens and AI robots and space reality shows and steve is thrown 10 steps back for all the 3 he had taken forward. ]

Anything you can give me really. about this world, the fleet, the moon. anything you found out, no matter how small it may look.

[beathach]

[come hang with the movie mutants, Steve, they're behind too.

Hank nods and turns to grab one of his notebooks, then holds it out to Steve. Inside are the notes he's started taking since he arrived - about the moon (along with some more science-y explanations/theories about what's going on down there), the augments, and whatever else he's learned since his arrival]

That's everything I've found out so far. There isn't much about this world or the fleet aside from what you learn when you arrive. I can't find what year we're in, or - even what system we're in, either.

There's a little more about the moon, but that's because I went down there to speak with some of the locals.

Ah - and I don't know if anyone's warned you yet, but don't mess with your augment. I've heard of people trying and - it doesn't end well, for anyone.

[uprightness]

I've been warned.

[ he nods, looks at the notes an takes care to reach each one before moving to the next ]

have the locals been cooperative? will they answer questions?

[beathach]

[he nods, crossing his arms]

They're pretty forthcoming, especially if you're interested in helping. [he taps a clawed finger against his arm, sighing out] The short of it is that they tried to terraform the moon centuries ago, and something went wrong with what they were using - which resulted in all the toxicity down there.

[uprightness]

terraform.

[ yet another o bruce where art thou moment. ]

well, I don't know much about that but maybe we can get in contact with some local scientists, see what they have.

[beathach]

[he looks apologetic and sympathetic at once] I don't really know what it is either. I mean, in general I know, but the science of it is brand new to me.

[he makes a noise and nods] I know of a few, both on the fleet and down on the moon. It's definitely not a problem one person can solve on their own.

[uprightness]

Very few problems are, I find. The more people affected, the more people needed to fix it.

[ a nod and a smile ]

A good thing we all have each other. Maybe we can help those people yet.
