I knew I should have looked up 'reality shows' a few months back.

[ The man who appears on the screen is currently looking at what seems to be a little notepad before adding the word 'space' next to the words 'reality tv'. Really, he could have done this space setting if it included an inter-galactic war or helping planets in peril.

But in all honesty, Steve Rogers: entertainer has never been his career choice and it's not his forte, either. At least now the whole thing doesn't include singing and girls in scandalously short skirts. ]

My name is Steve Rogers, currently aboard the SS Pathstone. I've done a little bit of reading while aboard the Marsiva. I understand there are those who are trying to help the people on the moon we're visiting, if there is anything you need, I'd do whatever I can do to help.

[ you might catch a glimmer of red and blue and silver just behind him. A wink as the light hits metal ]

The same goes for going home. I imagine people have already looked into ways for us to leave this place. No one should be taken anywhere against their will. I'd like to hear about the information you have managed to collect and I'll do everything I can to make sure everyone will be able to go home safely.

[ you all get a little smile. he's so awkward at these things, can you tell by now. ]

[ steve looks up and looks at him for a moment. he is young and looks unsure as a person gets. he doesn't fault him, not really. this is unnatural even for someone who has once woke up in a world quite unlike his own.

he smiles, shows him the list ]

Things I have to try finding some reading material about. Some of these I'm not very familiar with.

[That's a pretty random list, but it makes sense. If Luke had one at this moment it'd probably look about the same.]

Ah... I used to do that after I lost my memory. I even kept a journal for a while. [Not anymore, though. Not allowed to.]

I'm Luke, by the way-- I've only been here a couple days, so I'm still learning everyone's names.

Nice to meet you, Luke.

[ he offers his hand for him to shake ]

I haven't lost my memories but - I've been out of touch for quite a while. Your memories; do you - were those ever recovered?

[ he wonders if bucky's ever will be.

[He puts out the wrong hand at first, because he's left-handed, but then he remembers and switches.]

Oh, ah, not entirely. I remember little things, like the start of a song or the smell of someone's perfume. Sometimes I have dreams. [He doesn't talk about his amnesia much, so he's not sure how to phrase it.] It happened when I was ten, so I forgot everything that happened before that.

I'm sorry.

[ it's an honest sentiment if there ever was one. steve may have missed on 70 years of life under the ice but simply not knowing is not the same as knowing and forgetting. ]

do you want to come in? you can sit down.

[Luke shakes his head and smiles.]

It's okay. I don't dwell on it much. There are bigger problems than not being able to remember stuff that happened forever ago, right?

[The invitation surprises him, but it warms him, too.]

Are you sure I'm not bothering you?

[ he smiles and places the notepad down ]

Not at all, please, sit down.

[ he can't very well answer the question, not honestly, anyway. because how can he when he clings onto every hope, every power of his will that bucky will remember the man he used to be before HYDRA? ]

have you found everything alright? nobody's giving you trouble?

[If only Luke knew.]

[He fidgets a bit with his coat so he's not pulling on it.]

No, ah, everything's fine! Everyone's been really nice. I'm just-- I'm not used to being on my own like this. But I'm doing great! [He's lying, but he's smiling so hard to cover it up.]

I don't think I've met the captain.

[ he smiles a little ]

Well, the thing about a crew, even one that's been put together by other people is that we got each other's back so.

[ he can see the insecurity there and the natural, immediate instinct is to assure as much as possible. ]

you're not at all on your own, not really. No one is.

Yeah. That's what makes a team... a team!

[You're a good man, Steve Rogers.

His words make Luke duck his head for a moment; he considers, then asks a question.]

Do you have any family?

That's exactly it not just any team but a good one. People who look out for each other.

[ he thinks for a moment about the question. his parents are long gone and while there are matters of time and space, memories and pain between them all, his thoughts wander at once to Bucky - to the man named Winter upon the Heron, to Peggy at the Starstruck. ]

Not the traditional kind but in a way.

[Steve gets it, and that's a relief. Kid needs more friends.]

Me, too.

[He glances to the side.]

I... had to leave my brother behind. It's been months now, but I can't stop thinking about it. He really needs me.

I promise, we're taking you back to him. I won't leave anyone behind, we're not going to stay here.

[Luke blinks, surprised at Steve's vehement sincerity. He's only seen that kind of energy from his childhood friends.

He misses them, too, but he can trust Steve. He knows he can.]

... Thanks. It'd be an empty promise if someone else said it, but I feel like you can actually make it happen.

[Even if he doesn't-- even if Luke dies before they get there-- at least Steve will try.]
