I knew I should have looked up 'reality shows' a few months back.

[ The man who appears on the screen is currently looking at what seems to be a little notepad before adding the word 'space' next to the words 'reality tv'. Really, he could have done this space setting if it included an inter-galactic war or helping planets in peril.

But in all honesty, Steve Rogers: entertainer has never been his career choice and it's not his forte, either. At least now the whole thing doesn't include singing and girls in scandalously short skirts. ]

My name is Steve Rogers, currently aboard the SS Pathstone. I've done a little bit of reading while aboard the Marsiva. I understand there are those who are trying to help the people on the moon we're visiting, if there is anything you need, I'd do whatever I can do to help.

[ you might catch a glimmer of red and blue and silver just behind him. A wink as the light hits metal ]

The same goes for going home. I imagine people have already looked into ways for us to leave this place. No one should be taken anywhere against their will. I'd like to hear about the information you have managed to collect and I'll do everything I can to make sure everyone will be able to go home safely.

[ you all get a little smile. he's so awkward at these things, can you tell by now. ]

I heard I've missed quite a party.

[She doesn't normally smile this much. It's not even excessive or creepy. It's just so much more than her default face normally gives off. She reaches out for his hand. How is this really a thing that's happening right now? She really wishes she could tell Grandpa or Mom and Dad and it's really impressive the smile withstands those thoughts.]

[And then noticing what he's doing there with those straps.] You have the shield! They didn't take it? They take all the weapons. [At least she thought they did.]

Well, they've taken everything else. Maybe they let me keep it since it's mostly for defense rather than attack.

[ and he won't use it, not ever, not unless he has to. he watches that smile for a moment and it may have been many years since captain America has met a fan but he knows the ordeal. he takes it off and offers it to her ]

Here. Maybe you can show me where to put it. I don't want to alarm anyone.

[She reaches out to take it when offered and her eyes do widen and this is embarrassing but she doesn't care because she is holding the shield! Use your words, Pryde.]

Um, no one's going to be alarmed. [Would it be rude to phase through it just to see how that feels? Okay, keeping her molecules to herself.] We can lock it up in my room if you want, but I'm sure everyone will be fine.

[Still looking at it though and her voice drops a little but it's still aloud.] I've never wanted to be shot at this much.

...You want to hold onto it a little longer?

[ smiling because she is young and this is endearing in its own way ]

[She laughs out of the embarrassment of how fast she wants to scream "yes" at that.] I mean, you know, I could.

I'm sorry. I'm not usually like this. [See also never.] And I am supposed to be showing you my power. [Which suddenly seems so uncool anyway.]

It's alright.

[ he smiles, shakes his head ]

You're the first X-men I meet, the honor is mine as well. Have you always had your power?

I was born a mutant, so I've always had the potential, but usually powers come in at puberty because it's not awkward enough, right? [Oh god she's talking about puberty to Steve Rogers.] I didn't actually know what was happening until I feel from my upstairs bedroom into the living room.

Kind of like this. [She takes a step back into a crate as if it's not even there. But parts of her disappear as she does.]

[ whoa. that's - something. ]

huh.

[ the world will never cease to surprise him ]

that is - wow. Can you -

[ pointing at her ]

through people?

Pretty much anything, people included. Also bullets and such, but you wouldn't want to be standing behind me when that happens. [Since they just keep on passing through.

She steps back out of the crate and up to him, holding her hand out.]

I can apply it to others too. Want to try?

Uh -

[ a moment hesitation. for some reason, it almost feels very personal. maybe there's the added factor that she's a girl.

Get a grip, Rogers ]

Yeah. Should I - ?

[Oh, good, it's not just her being weird. She smiles softly. It is actually kind of personal. It's just hand holding and she's done it plenty of times in emergencies just to save lives but showing off her powers like this—sharing them—it does feel like a bonding experience a lot of the time.]

Just take my hand. I can't phase something I'm not in contact with.

uh - yeah, of course.

[ awkwardly ( calm down, Rogers, it's just holding a girl's hand ) he offers her his palm, wraps it around hers. ]

I - should probably thank you for showing me all of this.

You can thank me after I successfully don't get you stuck in a wall. [Smiling. Her humor is adorably dark, right?] Speaking of which, make sure to not let go.

-- Don't worry, I'm holding on.

[ ... ]

What would happen if somebody lets go?

If you're in something when you solidify you fuse with it. [She can sometimes exert more control and push molecules out of the way, but that's her, not something she's phasing and then not phasing.] It's not pretty. [It can be useful.]

Also, it's much more fun to walk through a wall before you ask things like that. [Going through a wall now?]

[ and so they walk through a wall, steve's eyes are fixed on their hands as they walk from one side to the other. it's eerie and odd but very impressive at the same time. Vision can do it, of course but to see someone else so confident in their powers - he thinks of wanda and smiles. ]

Are there others in the X-Men with this power?

[Just other versions of me.] No, just me in the X-Men. There could be other mutants I don't know about with it. There are definitely other people who can do similar things. [Vision hasn't shared that with her yet that he's one of them.]

Sounds like your world is in good hands.

[ he smiles a little. the Avengers were always meant to protect the world and its people but to know that there is a second group with the same agenda, he would value them as highly as he does the Avengers.

They need all the help they can get. ]

It... [Is all but completely destroyed by Kurt's timeline and not much better off in hers]

We did our best. [Voice a little soft and probably hard to miss the past tense. Please don't make her disappoint Steve Rogers.]

You did your best.

[ he puts a hand on her shoulder, calm and as assuring as he can be ]

it's all any of us can do.

[Reassurance from her childhood hero? Well, one of them, she did have a lot of interests. But he was important.

And he's standing here with a hand on her shoulder telling her the things she needs to hear so badly after all of the pain and loss and self doubt. She brushes these kinds of comments off most of the time because they are hard to internalize after everything she saw and did. It would be easy to brush this one off too. He doesn't know anything about her or her world. He can't know if she did her best. He can't and yet when he says it she can kind of believe it too.

Don't cry.

Do. Not. Cry.

She takes a breath and a moment before looking back up to him. The emotion is plain, but she keeps any threat of tears in check.]

Thank you.

[She can feel a thickness in her throat that's hard to talk around, but she pushes through, not wanting to make things awkward for him.] There are realities where our teams work together from what I've heard. Or members cross between them at least.

I heard about that.

[ war is hard, for everyone. what he sees in her he had felt many times at the war, when it ended, when he woke up after the ice, and at times, at all the battles that followed.

there's guilt and pain, no one can take those or erase them. but people can help each other through them. ]

I don't know if mine will be one of them but if it does, it'll be an honor, Kitty.

[You are going to break her yet, aren't you? Who said you could be this way in real life? So encouraging and positive and understanding. Can she keep you?]

I know mine won't be, but I'm glad I get to meet you here.

Well.

[ he squeezes her shoulder before letting go, smiling a little ]

we're a team here, aren't we?

Yes, sir. [What was that?] I mean Steve. I don't call anyone sir. [Not even Erik.] I'm being very weird today. Sorry. But yes, I like to think of us as a team.
