I knew I should have looked up 'reality shows' a few months back.

[ The man who appears on the screen is currently looking at what seems to be a little notepad before adding the word 'space' next to the words 'reality tv'. Really, he could have done this space setting if it included an inter-galactic war or helping planets in peril.

But in all honesty, Steve Rogers: entertainer has never been his career choice and it's not his forte, either. At least now the whole thing doesn't include singing and girls in scandalously short skirts. ]

My name is Steve Rogers, currently aboard the SS Pathstone. I've done a little bit of reading while aboard the Marsiva. I understand there are those who are trying to help the people on the moon we're visiting, if there is anything you need, I'd do whatever I can do to help.

[ you might catch a glimmer of red and blue and silver just behind him. A wink as the light hits metal ]

The same goes for going home. I imagine people have already looked into ways for us to leave this place. No one should be taken anywhere against their will. I'd like to hear about the information you have managed to collect and I'll do everything I can to make sure everyone will be able to go home safely.

[ you all get a little smile. he's so awkward at these things, can you tell by now. ]

Her name is Rogue. [ peggy tries to strip some of the emotion from her voice -- she quite likes rogue, all told. but steve doesn't need to hear the sentimental argument from her. ] And, from what I can tell, she hails from one of those not-quite-like-ours worlds.

Mutant, according to her. And a few others. Apparently they exist in some numbers in some versions of the world back home.

Has she mentioned anything about the X-men?

[ kitty isn't someone with whom she's familiar, but she supposes the name has floated around the fleet now and again. peggy nods. ]

She has. She's one of them -- and there are more than a few kicking 'round the ships. And some mutants, besides, who don't seem to have been part at all. One named Remy, in particular. Cajun chap. Thief, actually, but I can't yet suss out whether he's reformed or not.

[ rogue. he'll have to ask kitty about her, perhaps tell her to keep on eye on her if she can. any sort of involvement with loki can be dangerous. ]

She knew me, Kitty. Her grandfather told her stories, from the war.

I imagine a great many grandfathers must eventually tell stories about you, Steve. [ -- she purses her lips. ] They tell stories about you now. [ in the '40s, she means. ] They'll likely be telling stories about you for another seventy years beyond.

She's the first one here, that's for sure.

There will be others. [ -- she clears her throat. ] Notably, I suppose, a Clint Barton that seems to be from yet another alternate world. He has some interesting things to say about you.

[ he gives her a little look. is 'interesting' good or the sort of interesting that could get one in all sorts of trouble? ]

You ought to ask him sometime about what he calls Cap's Kooky Quartet. It's -- well, it's enlightening, to say the least.

Flattery won't be getting you very far, Captain. [ oh it's a lie. she's immured to a great many attempts to flatter -- but he's already ducked and dodged so many of her defenses back during the war. she can't hide the wattage of her smile. ]

[ that was almost smooth, Rogers, 1 point. ]

Honestly, I try not to rub it in anyone's faces. [ i have nothing to prove, here. ] It's not like -- not like back home, in '47. The desk isn't so stacked against us.

[ she means me. he isn't exactly the underdog any longer. ]

[ it's always requests when it comes to Steve Rogers. to demand a lady of anything is being a pig and to demand peggy of anything is simply to be an idiot. even asking anything of her feels wrong, after everything. ]

About home, in '47.

[ of a world he misses direly, a world he can't have back, not ever. except for here and now when it's best lady is sitting by his side holding her tea cup ]

It's better than '46, I suppose. [ she puffs her cheeks. there are truths she'd kept from jim, and from others -- but truths she didn't worry about sharing with steve. he understood (even if more in memory than in current experience) what it was to be underestimated at every turn. ]

Last year, back home, I took more lunch orders than I did case files.

[ he looks over at her as she speaks. the only time peggy carter had spoken of her experiences as a woman in a world mainly dominated by men, steve had called her a dame and luckily she seemed to have found his attempts of flattery more odd than annoying. to see what the world has become for women - he is glad she was there for it. a part of him is entirely certain that women like her shaped the world into that and that he had just missed the chance to see the process.

he had missed many chances, it would seem. ]

Why? you were the best one there.

[ it's a naive question at best. he knows the why but at the same time, he'll never be able to understand it ]

[ a brittle chuckle. she appreciates his faith -- she truly does. but it's so moot. returning to new york, she'd been met as little more than captain america's girlfriend. something of a vanity placement, no less superficial than building a statue in his honour.

gently: ] Maybe. Maybe not. The Manhattan office had a lot of good agents -- still does, I imagine. They weren't all wankers. [ ... ] Only the majority of them.

[ he has to chuckle a bit at her use of language. while he's not one to humor those sort of words, he doesn't quite mind when it's her. ]

They'll see. eventually. they're ought to. even the -

[ ok he can't repeat that word ]

less than savory ones.

[ she listens as he stumbles his way around the naughtiness; peggy's mouth quirks. he's adorable, isn't he? like one almost wouldn't believe who he'd been. who he is. for a moment, she almost forgets the blood and muck of the battlefield. the hard choices and the harder fights. ]

Oh, they did. Eventually. Not before putting me in cuffs and interrogating me on suspected treason charges. [ ... ] I suppose I should be grateful those details never ended up in history books or archived reports.

[ his gaze hardens. they what. how could they. how dare they. and if steve were there he would have gotten her out if he.

Oh, stop it. It had nothing to do with you. [ except in the sense that it had everything to do with him -- with a vial of his blood central to the whole ordeal. ] If anyone ought to be apologizing, it's Howard. But getting a single sorry out of a Stark man seems to be a feat of Sisyphean proportions.
