[Ahsoka seems relieved to see him, face instantly lighting up.]

Oh! Hi! Yes-- I was. I mean-- not someone in particular, just, er. Someone in general?

[She shakes her head as if to clear it. This is not a way to make a good first impression.]

I wanted to get to know the people on this ship. It's new, right? And it just occurred to me that I don't know anyone on it, so... [she trails off, slightly awkward.]

[oh no, that's really nice. Hank smiles a little and steps out of the lab to approach her to talk to her properly]

I see. Well - welcome to the Blameless? It's one of the newer ships, yeah, though I don't know how new it is.

And I'm - er, someone in general, I guess. [ha ha, you're in good company with the awkwardness, Ahsoka] My name's Hank.

Hank! [Ahsoka seems relieved. Names. This she can do! The thing about Ahsoka is: typically, she's not awkward. But typically, she isn't a civilian. As a Jedi, she'd always known her place in the world. How to act, what was expected of her.

As a normal person... well. She has no idea. What do normal people do? She didn't think it would be so different, but apparently it is.

At any rate, she puts a hand out enthusiastically to shake.]

Nice to meet you. I'm Ahsoka! Ahsoka Tano. I'm pilot and first mate on the Starstruck. Soooo if we accidentally crash into anything, you know who to blame. [She chuckles at her own joke. What a nerd.]

[at least Ahsoka has run into someone who doesn't know what normal people do, either. It's nothing like being a jedi, but Hank's life has never been anything close to normal, as desperate as he had wished for it in his youth.

He chuckles as well, at both the joke and the enthusiasm] It's a pleasure, Ahsoka. And I won't hold it against you if that happens, I don't think they'd make you a pilot if you didn't know what you were doing. [or y'know, the augment does it's thing, but]

Well, not to brag or anything, but yeah I kinda do.

Still! Accidents do happen. People get distracted, engines fail, enemies appear outta nowhere and try to gun you down. [All day in the life stuff! She shrugs.] Not to worry, though. I'm an expert at crash landings.

[She says it confidently, and it's actually hard to tell whether she's joking or being serious. Honestly, it all sounds somewhat funny and definitely precocious, coming from what is unmistakably a tiny teenage girl-- no matter what her species is.]

[with all of his experience with jets and flying, he's absolutely taking it seriously. He knows better than to question things, especially in a place that seems to draw in superheroes and the like. He wouldn't be surprised if it drew in people already familiar with space, too]

I believe you. And - I mean, knowing that and all, it makes you a better pilot than most, doesn't it? Especially if you're good at - uh, crash landings. Those are difficult.

Let's just say you get good at them really quick when your master has a knack for drawing enemy fire.

["master"? Like teacher, or . . . ]

Ah - is he a magnet for it? Or is it just bad luck?

His nickname in the tabloids back home is "the Hero With No Fear." [Even though Ahsoka knows just how untrue that moniker is, and how much Anakin hates it.]

He likes to be in the center of the action. You do the math.

Ouch, that does sound like it's straight out of a tabloid. [that taboids exist in other worlds is such a shame]

[Ahsoka nods.]

Anyway-- enough about Anakin. He isn't even here. What about you? What's your job?

Me? I'm - lab support? Medical officer? Whichever one is more appropriate, I guess.

[Ahsoka nods once, satisfied.] Good. Every ship should have one.

What about back home...?

Mm, they should. The, uh - lab came with me, which is part of the reason I didn't transfer out. [the other reason was because he actually liked it here. Kate and Leto made wonderful first impressions on him]

At home I'm a scientist and a teacher. Er - soon to be teacher. We were in the process of setting the school up before we were brought here.

What about you? You're a pilot, but - you said that - Anakin? was your master?

Oh yeah? What school?

[Ahsoka nods again at his question.]

That's right. Well, sort of. "Was" is the operative word in that sentence. I wasn't a pilot, exactly-- I was part of an Order that dedicated itself to keeping peace throughout the galaxy. Sometimes, that included fighting and piloting. [She's used to people not knowing who the Jedi are, now, so she explains preemptively before Hank can ask.]

But I left the Order, so technically Anakin isn't my master anymore. Just my friend.

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

[he appreciates her explaining - because he would have certainly asked, and he smiles to show her as much] Old habits, though, right?

[she seems so young, and yet it isn't as if he has room to say anything. The X-Men - that first group, there were teenagers there. The ones here are young as well, and he'd met so many people in Kyriakos half his age and who had done more with their lives than he could ever dream]

I've never heard of a - galaxy-wide group of peacekeepers, though. That's - really impressive, and amazing, especially for someone so young - [and he immediately winces and holds up a hand apologetically] - no offense.

Xavier's... [she pauses, thoughtful, like something's on the tip of her tongue. Why does that sound familiar to her? Absently, she waves him off while she's thinking.]

None taken. It's normal back home, because everyone knows that the Jedi start training young. But I'm aware that most people here think it's weird, usually because they don't have any equivalent.

[he tilts his head, but he'll wait for whatever it is she's thinking]

Mm, it's - incredibly uncommon where I'm from, but - I was young when I did my schooling, so I kind of understand. And I've met a few people who were - younger than you would expect, doing all sorts of things you wouldn't see in my world.

Right. [And then that sparks her memory!]

Ah! That's it! I've got it! [She punches one palm with her other hand for emphasis-- she's animated like that.] Xavier's-- that's the school Kurt goes to, isn't it?

Oh... although, if you've just built it, then that means... [MORE TIME SHENANIGANS.]

Ah - yes, that's the one. You know Kurt?

[he smiles a little. He's so used to time shenanigans it hurts] We're not from the same - uh. Timeline? World? . . . either of those work, honestly. There's similarities, though. Like the school.

There's a lot of that going around here. Not so long ago, we had some friends here from about twenty years in my future. Boy, that was a trip.

But yes, I know Kurt. We're friends. [She chuckles.] Actually, when we first met, I thought he was from my world.

[he winces a little in sympathy] I know how that is. There's a number of people here from - a future. They're all a good thirty years or so ahead of me.

That's - good, though. He's a good kid. [he tilts his head] Really?

Uh-huh! Back home, there's a species called the Chiss who look a lot like him! I mean-- with the blue skin and all. I was so excited at first-- everyone here's a human, you know? [Something seems to occur to her, and she continues on quickly:]

Oh! Not that humans are bad, but... well, it's kinda weird when nobody else is used to non-humans. [Flippantly:] Do you know how many questions I have to field per day?

[he blinks a few times before he can't help but smile] Probably as many as I've had to field the past month. I understand the sentiment very well.

[says this guy, who looks completely human at the moment] I'll admit I want to ask too, but only because I'm curious, not - because I'm not used to non-humans. But I didn't want to be rude.

[Ahsoka rolls her eyes with a smile and well-meaning good humour.]

It's okay. I'm used to it. Go on, what do you want to know? Is it the horns? It's always the horns.
