[ Maglor chuckles softly ]

Are you so old? Forgive me, I find Men's ages hard to judge, but you do not seem so!

[beardstrokes]

[ He smiles in turn. ]

Old in spirit, at least.

[bythewaves]

Ah now, but that should not be!

[ Maglor teases a little, but then his voice takes a turn for the sadly wistful ]

After all, Men hasten so swiftly towards their escape, it seems, and I fain hold back the tide, for a while.

[beardstrokes]

I doubt any of us really . . . hasten towards that.

[ Even in war, it just seems like it's all around them, whether they wanted to be there or not. ]

The tide will come, regardless.

[bythewaves]

Deliberately, I suppose not! But to one such as I... time seems to move far too swiftly, at times.

[ He nods sadly ]

I know. I just wish sometimes... ah, but do not mind me. I grow maudling, at time.

[beardstrokes]

[ Gently. ]

Do you have too much time on your hands?

[bythewaves]

Far too much, it sometimes feels. Truly they told us we would envy Men! As the world rolls on, I find I do.

[beardstrokes]

[ Obi-Wan recalls his own fate - the last of the Jedi. ]

It can't always be helped, I'm afraid.

[bythewaves]

No. [ Maglor smiles a little sadly, and almost unconsciously, his fingers pick out a lament on his harp ]

I know that it is not wise to dwell overly in the past - but when one is the last... it is difficult not to, at times. And my folk always did have a habit of looking back, instead of forwards. The world of Men simply moves too swiftly.

[beardstrokes]

But they move with purpose and fulfillment. Even when it's over too fast, they rarely waste what comes their way.

[bythewaves]

They do. [ and there is a flash of almost paternal pride there ]

So brightly they burn, and such deeds they accomplish, as to make even the darkness pause.

[beardstrokes]

And we will continue to do that until the Dark is no longer a threat.

[ The use of the word Dark gives Obi-Wan pause. It's almost the Men in Maglor's world were similar to the Jedi. ]

[bythewaves]

Násië!. [ Maglor says fervently ]

May you have the victory.

[beardstrokes]

[ Obi-Wan shrugs. ]

We shall see.

[bythewaves]

In my world we say that Hope shines brightest in the darkest of times. I hope it will be so with you.

[beardstrokes]

That seems to be a running theme with many worlds.

[ But again, the familiarity rings a chord in him. ] What kind of form do the forces of Darkness take on your world?

We call him Morgoth, the Dark Foe of the World, and his true name we no longer speak. [ There is a lilting sing song quality to his voice, the echo of a storyteller. But hate boils beneath the calm of the ice - old and strong, carefully stoked and nurtured over centuries, honed into a weapon as sharp as any blade. ]

He is one of the Powers of the World - or was. But he wished for what he could not have, and fell in pride to hate, for what he could not have he would not share, and vowed to destroy, instead. He could not create, so instead he twisted and corrupted. He could no longer make, so instead he destroyed. He spread lie and rumor, and fanned the flames of distrust, wherever he could find it. He killed my grandfather, and by so doing, started a whole people - my people, down a terrible road.

[beardstrokes]

[ Dark Foe, Sith Lords . . . not very different then. Obi-Wan runs a hand through his beard. ]

I see. I've known many people like that.

[bythewaves]

Far too many. [ he says grimly ]

But he was the first, and the corruptor of those who followed after. He is banished, now, and the Doors of Night are guarded. But his malice remains, bound into the very substance of the world itself. They say there is no way to remove it, unless the world itself be broken and remade.

[beardstrokes]

[ Obi-Wan murmurs to himself. ]

So his feelings have integrated themselves in the Force. . . ?

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor blinks, curious ]

What is the Force?

[beardstrokes]

Pardon my manners. The Force is what the Jedi believe in. It is an energy field that surrounds and supports life and fate. It is always in motion and with it, so are we.

The Jedi fight for the Light and the Sith fight for the Dark.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor hums softly in acknowledgement ] Ah, I see - almost like an interpretation of the Song. I wonder how similar it is in truth.

And you are a Jedi then, I must assume?

[beardstrokes]

I am a Jedi Master.

[ Which still sounds odd to say - especially in light of all that he knows, but considering he took the position, it seems right to acknowledge it. ]

I've fought many iterations of the Dark.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor tips his head in acknowledgement and curiosity both ]

That is good to hear, although it is a sorry tale that every world holds, it seems. But I am glad to meet another who has stood fast against the tide.
