[Apollo looks... a little flustered? Slightly bewildered? Like he might have accidentally exploded cooking supplies?]

I'm trying this cooking thing. I'm pretty sure it's not dangerous to eat, but does anyone want to come and be a guinea pig? These gel things are making roasts a lot fucking harder than they should be...

[On the Bishop, Apollo has taken over the kitchen for now. He manages to look surprisingly domestic, bumming around in ship standard provided clothing and hair pulled up into a ponytail that bobs along to whatever music he's imagining as he 'cooks'.

Cooking occasionally involves eye lasers. Which doesn't work on the gels half as well as he hoped it would.]

When we first started on the streets, Midnighter and I, we mostly thought that I could keep him warm during the night. And then the stray cats discovered me.

[ she tries to stop herself from laughing but she can't ]

Sorry. Sorry, but that's adorable.

It really was. I'd wake up covered in cats, Midnighter would grumble as though he objected and then sit and pet them.

That's so sweet. Not the whole sleeping-on-the-streets thing, but I enjoy the idea of two superheroes being overrun by kittens.

Well, no, that was less cute, but there's nothing quite the same sort of adorable as my 'most dangerous post-human in existence' partner wrapped in his coat with four cats piled on him and purring.

It's very sweet to imagine, it's true.

[He hesitates and then moves to right near the back of his photo album. It's a photo of a man sleeping next to a little girl. Clearly a younger Jenny.]

Midnighter. My ex-husband.

[ looks at the photo and sobers up a bit ]

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you guys; this picture is precious.

I thought about throwing it out for a long time but... Fuck him. It's too important still.

[ she puts her hand over his lightly ]

I've found that... maybe if people aren't who you thought they were, or things didn't go the way you would have liked, you can still love what you had. And mourn it, too.

[He turns his hand up and squeezes hers gently.]

Thanks. I guess... if I had any idea why he left, maybe I could accept it better.

[ she squeezes it back, her voice soft ]

That's... so hard.

I spent a long time being so angry at my mother. She could have come with me. I wouldn't have had to be so alone when I landed on Earth. Technically I was the one who was leaving, but she's the one who abandoned me.

I realized... too late, probably, that she felt responsible for what was happening. She was giving me a new opportunity and didn't want to bring her baggage with me. It doesn't mean I'm happy with her decision, or even okay with it.

I don't know your situation with him. At all. I guess I just mean... he probably had a reason, but it doesn't mean you have to be okay with it.

I... can't imagine leaving my daughter under any circumstance. But I'm sure your mother had her reasons. And... it's pretty strong to be able to look at that without anger.

[He doesn't get it, at all, but he thinks Kara is a bigger person than him for being able to accept and forgive that choice.]

I imagine he had a reason in that malfunctioning tactical computer of a brain, but I literally don't know what it is. He just left. No explanation. No reason. Just... said he was leaving and left.

[ he's going to get upgraded to a full hug ]

[Kara isn't cold to hug.

Most people are a bit chilled to Apollo. He runs hot, filled with heat and light and solar energy. But Kara is warm and she gives really good hugs as it happens, so he hugs her back just a warmly. Metaphorically.]

Not right now. I have plans but nothing finished that I'd inflict on someone. I incinerated a couple of truly gag worthy experiments.

I was planning on trying some more baking. We might be able to make a decent bread out of what's here...

Though bread takes ages. You have to do that resting thing.
